Woh Bhi Din The Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: John Abraham, Rohit Saraf, Sanjana Sanghi, Charu Bedi, Adarsh Gourav, Gaurav Parajuli, Zeishan Quadri
Director: Sajid Ali
Woh Bhi Din The Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
What’s Good: The underlying message is that even naughty or flawed children can attain distinction in adult life and that childhood should be guilt-free, while school also prepares you for the outside world and is not just about books and examinations. A subtle message thus goes out to strict parents.
What’s Bad: A film that craved for skilled editing and horrendous (can’t think of any other word) music!
Loo Break: Therefore, quite frequently in many stretched sequences. At 2-hour plus, this one could have been crisply told in about 90 minutes.
Watch or Not?: Do you have to write about it? Then yes. Otherwise, we learn its messages in school, called...

I did not have Jonathan Groff singing “Tujhe Dekha To Yeh Jana Sanam” on my 2024 bingo card. The Broadway actor humbly steps into Indian culture in Roshan Sethi’s “A Nice Indian Boy,” which repeatedly connects back to Aditya Chopra’s “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” — the film that originated “Tujhe Dekha”.
Written by Eric Randall (and based on Madhuri Shekar’s play), “A Nice Indian Boy” is all about subverting stereotypes about Indian culture, both within and outside of the community. The title itself is a cheeky twist on every aunty’s favorite refrain: that when a girl is of the right age, she or her family will find her a “nice Indian boy” to settle down with.
This time, however, protagonist Naveen (Karan Soni) is the one planning to bring home a nice Indian boy, which is probably not what all those aunties were picturing. But “A Nice Indian Boy” delights in defying expectations,...

An occasionally surreal, consistently moving film that wrestles with religious imagery, Siddartha Jatla’s “In the Belly of a Tiger” frames the act of sacrifice as both deeply spiritual and regrettably pragmatic. This conundrum emanates from the story of a man who offers himself up to a hungry tiger if it means being able to feed his family, a tale Jatla uses to scrutinize the machineries of injustice. However, the writer-director eventually narrows his focus to a bittersweet romance, unfurling not only the foibles of contemporary caste and class, but the wistful joys and exultations crushed by their bootheels.
Although laced with gentle moments, the film begins with a stark close-up of an elderly man in the forest as he drenches himself in chicken’s blood. It’s a strange sight, but there turns out to be a tragic practicality to this makeshift ritual. The next day, his body is discovered in a nearby field,...

The makers of the upcoming Tamil horror-comedy film ‘Conjuring Kannapan’ have dropped its latest track ‘Bakkunu Suthureney Aiyo Aiyo’. Composed and sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the track is comedically amusing yet groovy, and perfectly captures the tone of the movie, giving off a very danceable party melody vibe.
Yuvan’s own singing is very non-serious, and in an upbeat way it is almost like a cry to run away. The song contrasts itself in the most unique way, and is driven mostly by rhythm and groove, with the melody kicking in very late.
The song primarily is like a mixture of folk, classical, pop, electronic, film music, and even some hip-hop, though not in the typical way. There is no outright rapping or anything like that, rather it is a lot of spoken word with delivery aimed like rapping, so there are some tonal similarities to hip-hop.
Extremely filmy,...

Mira Nair has boarded Indian filmmaker Sarvnik Kaur’s Sundance-winning documentary “Against the Tide” as an executive producer.
The film follows Mumbai-based fishermen Rakesh and Ganesh who are inheritors of the great Koli fishing knowledge system — a way to harvest the sea by following the moon and the tides. Rakesh has kept faith in the traditional fishing methods while Ganesh has strayed away from them, embracing technology. The film tells a tale of friendship and rising conflict between the two men against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea, which is increasingly turning hostile because of climate change.
Nair presided over the jury at the recently concluded Jio Mami Mumbai Film Festival, which awarded “Against the Tide” the Golden Gateway Award, the festival’s top prize. Previously, the film won a special jury award for vérité filmmaking at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and won awards at Sydney and Seattle and best...

Devan’s directorial debut, Valatty, revolves around Tomy, a golden retriever with a golden heart and a lens through which he saw the word differently. His owner, Roy (Vijay Babu), loved him more than anything in the world and was looking for a suitable companion for his furry friend to breed with. Roy would die before he would make Tomy cross with dogs from lousy households. While Roy was searching the city to find a perfect partner for Tomy, he saw Amalu, a cocker spaniel that belonged to his neighbor, Saraswati (Mahima Nambiar). From the moment Tomy laid his eyes on Amalu, he lost his heart to her and began seeking excuses just to see her. Since Tomy was the coolest dog in society, he tried impressing Amalu with the tricks Roy taught him. Amalu also reciprocated his advances and fell for Tomy.

Mad is a Telugu-language campus-based comedy-drama that is reminiscent of 3 Idiots and Munnabhai Mbbs directed by Rajkumar Hirani. It is hard to ignore the resemblance between the above-mentioned films and Mad. The humor around men’s college hostels is always relatable. The first rush of love and a relationship that is felt and experienced during college days is no match to what life throws at you once you’re all out in the real-world hustle.

Why Was Ganesh, Aka Laddu, On The College Campus?
The two-hour-long movie begins with a young college student who ran away from a precarious situation and was caught by a dominant college group for reasons unknown. We assume there was some clash between two factions in college, which is a common sight on many campuses. The student was kept hostage by this group until the next day. Ganesh, the ‘super senior’ from college,...

Seafaring friends from Mumbai cope with a changing climate and an unforgiving economy in different ways in Sarvnik Kaur’s poetic, beautifully shot documentary
Sarvnik Kaur’s patient, plangent documentary follows two fishers and friends from Mumbai’s Koli community pursuing their livelihoods by different means. Ganesh is a likable grafter who commands a large crew and the latest technology for expeditions far out at sea. He lives in a modern apartment with his wife, Manali, and zooms around town in a van that has his Instagram handle – The Last Fisherman of Bombay – emblazoned on the side.
In contrast, the humble Rakesh, who lives with his wife, Devyani, their baby son and his mother-in-law, adheres to traditional Koli methods, trusting in his ancestors and restricting himself to shallow waters and a modest boat. In nocturnal chats that punctuate the film, the cultural and economic chasm between the two men is exposed.

ReviewThe film, which tells Itoop and Kochuthresiamma’s unusually long story of togetherness, addresses why the feelings of the elderly are no laughing matter. When 90-something Itoop finds an old love letter addressed to his 90-something wife Kochuthresiamma, he is enraged, calls for a family meeting, and looks perplexed as his children and grandchildren laugh and make jokes about it. It is the expected reaction — why is Grandpa Itoop so worked up about a 50-year-old love letter, why take it seriously at all. This is what Pookkaalam, the film which tells Itoop and Kochuthresiamma’s unusually long story of togetherness, tries to explain — why the feelings of the elderly are no laughing matter. To a large extent, the film works too. It is a stress-free, and somewhat enjoyable, two hours, if you ignore some of the humour that falls flat. This is director Ganesh Raj’s second film, after his successful debut Aanandam,...
