Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks show up as judges on a talent competition on Wednesday's (Nov. 6) "Law & Order: Svu." The fake "American Diva" bears an uncanny resemblance to "American Idol," where the two singers got their big breaks.
The episode has them (along with R&B singer Ashanti) behind the judges' desk. Carly Rose Sonenclar, runner-up on Season 2 of "The X Factor," takes the stage. She's so nervous, she's initially inaudible, but quickly finds her terrific voice.
As she's wowing the audience, which was a theater full of extras at Manhattan's Hudson Theatre last month, the action breaks to the detectives going about their lives, all tuning into the singing contest. Detective Amaro (Danny Pino) and his daughter watch at a diner. Rollins (Kelli Giddish) and Tutuola (Ice-t) watch while eating take-out Chinese food, and Benson (Mariska Hargitay) has the show on at home, while on the phone.

"American Idol" alumni Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks and singer Ashanti play themselves as judges on a singing contest on the Nov. 6 episode "Law & Order: SVU."
The trio filmed their scenes at Manhattan's Hudson Theater, where the singers were playing judges in an Idol-like show. They are wowed when "X Factor" Season 2 runner-up Carly Rose Sonenclar sings.
In the below clip, which you can see exclusively on Zap2it, the singers talk about how they would be as judges.
"Some of us are really judgmental," Hicks jokes.
Ashanti talks about being a big fan of "Svu" and plugs her upcoming album.
Were she a judge on a talent contest, Ashanti says, "I would be the nice one, and love and constructive criticism."
Aiken, however, wonders if he could be too critical, if "I could do that to a fellow singer."
The episode, "Dissonant Voices," features Tony Award winner Billy Porter...

Not only does Carly Rose Sonenclar have crazy-good vocal talent, but she also has a big heart.
Teaming up with the children of the Starlight Children's Foundation -- an organization that helps to improve the lives of kids and their families globally -- the former "X Factor USA" contestant took the stage, where they sang a beautiful cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." By placing these children in the spotlight for a night, it's a chance for them to take their minds off the challenges they're experiencing.
"I think there's definitely a connection between all the kids and I," explained Carly Rose. "The kids are just such fighters. I get inspired by the kids -- no matter what they're going through, they'll be smiling and dancing."

The first footage of the new ‘X Factor’ season is here — and Simon is in way over his head.
Simon Cowell is the odd man out in the first official promo for the upcoming third season of The X Factor. The video — which premiered July 16 during the Mlb All-Star Game 2013 on Fox — shows Demi Lovato, along with new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio, doing everything they can to drive Simon up the wall. Turns out, it’s really not that difficult.
Simon refers to Kelly as a “total professional,” right before we see her sexily refer to a contestant as “cowboy”; he says “everyone” will be able to understand Paulina, just as we’re shown a clip of her making absolutely no sense; and he says we’ll get a very “different” Demi this season, one who respects him — as the promo cuts to a clip of Demi goofing...

Attention Carly's Angels: The moment you've been waiting for has arrived. After hearing Carly Rose Sonenclar sing amazing cover after cover, the singer performed her first original song -- and it does not disappoint.
Titled "Unforgettable," the former "X Factor USA" runner-up took to the stage this past weekend at IPlay in Freehold, NJ, where she recorded the piano-based pop song -- which she co-wrote -- in front of a live audience. Watch Carly's full performance in the video above.
While we have to admit that the volume of the performance was a tad loud, the song still showed off her crazy-good vocals, hopefully giving us a taste of what's to come. Nice job, Carly.
Tell us, Carly's Angels: Are you a fan of Carly's first song? What did you think of her performance? Sound off in the comments or tweet @HuffPostTeen!

Original Song: "Stole My Heart" by One Direction
Cover Artist: "X Factor" runner-up Carly Rose Sonenclar
How It's Different: At first listen, Carly Rose's take on 1D's bouncy, up-tempo song is barely recognizable. Sitting at the piano, Carly Rose transforms "Stole My Heart" into a gorgeous, breathy ballad (and shows off her impressive piano-playing skills).
Why We Love It: It's no secret that Carly Rose has a drop-everything-you're-doing-and-listen kind of voice (with a talent for amazing covers), and her "Stole My Heart" cover is no exception. Dedicated to her cousins (who recently lost their father, according to the YouTube description), it's clear that this song is special.
Better Than The Original? While we're big 1D fans, we gotta admit that Carly Rose's version is on another level -- she sings the song effortlessly, making us wonder: Is there a song she can't sing? (The answer: probably not.)
