Global Digital Releasing, the film distribution company that launched in 2017 with the hit Welsh language drama “The Passing,” is changing lanes to focus primarily on documentaries and live television events, TheWrap can report exclusively.
“To be a boutique distributor in today’s overwhelmingly competitive content game has made it even more vital that we consistently evaluate the performance trends of our films. Undoubtedly, we’ve seen a steady uptick in both engagement and revenue streams of our documentaries, well above and beyond our narrative films,” Global Digital Releasing president Joe Dain said in a statement.
“We believe this change in direction will not only benefit documentary filmmakers by giving them a dedicated home in the indie space, but this niche will also help differentiate our label from the competition and allow us to excel in the sector.”

Unfortunately, not all our favorite fictional characters get a happily ever after, especially the ones in "The Hunger Games." On the list of the franchise's characters that deserved better than their untimely, tragic deaths, Finnick Odair is up there. Portrayed by Sam Claflin, the character was famous for having won the Hunger Games when he was just 14. Popular in the Capitol and all around Panem, Finnick was a skilled fighter who could shield himself from just about anything with his trident.
Like Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), Finnick had a public personality devised for him that didn't match who he truly was, and he saved Katniss, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), and their friends countless times. And, of course, the braveheart met his end in the dystopian sci-fi film adaptation's conclusion, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2." It's a heartbreaking loss that, even eight years later, fans haven't grown accustomed to,...

Harry Greenwood.
Harry Greenwood graduated from Nida in 2012, so being named one of the Casting Guild of Australia’s 10 Rising Stars of 2018 could be considered as long overdue recognition.
“It has been a long haul,” the 29-year-old son of Hugo Weaving and artist Katrina Greenwood tells If. “It is nice to be recognised.”
Greenwood’s career has been on an upward trajectory since his breakthrough role as young Digger Bevan Johnson, the older brother of Kodi Smit-McPhee’s Thomas Johnson, in the 2015 Nine Network miniseries Gallipoli directed by Glendyn Ivin.

Among the cacophonous election coverage and myriad issues sweeping our country, the gargantuan cost of higher education emerges as a (still) rising concern. With the annals of cinema relatively bereft of material on the subject, few narrative films have touched on it so pointedly or deftly as The Paper Store, directed by Nicholas Gray.
Co-written by Katharine Clark Gray – based on her play 516 (five-sixteen) – we are thrust into the hands of narrator Annalee (Stef Dawson), a college dropout who, after successfully running a paper forgery operation, is enlisted by Sigurd (a very game Penn Badgley) to forge his entire course-load for an undergrad-level cinema class while he works on his thesis. What follows, against Annalee’s better judgment, is a relationship between the two. She divulges as much to Sigurd’s professor Marty Kane (Richard Kind) in a forged paper at the opening. As he reads her words, delivered with...

Director Jonathan N Dixon.
Filmmaker Jonathan N Dixon took some time off after his last film, the 2011 horror-thriller Wrath, to spend more time with his daughter.
He moved to Noosa and took up surfing after a long absence from the waves, and slowly but surely a new film idea began to seed.
"Everybody I went surfing with knew my background in film and TV and would always talk to me about sharks", Dixon told If.
"Only a year ago, a seven-foot tiger shark hung around for a couple of days. We all got out of the water, but what did we do the next day? Get back in. We take that chance all the time because of a passion for surfing".
"A surfer-and-shark movie has never been done, probably because of the difficulty - because it's a bastard to shoot when you're on the water!" (laughs)

Lionsgate released a new Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 poster, and it's time to let those scumbag, imperialist Capitol windbags have what they deserve. By the look of things, this doesn't mean the best of times for goold ole President Snow. Check out the new one-sheet below. Snow, played by Donald Sutherland, has been terroizing Panem and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) for years. And now the story that began with the Girl on Fire volunterring to replace her younger sister in the gladiatorial Hunger Games will end with end with...bad things for the man who's responsible for it all. When last we saw Katniss and the Rebels, they had successfully extracted their captives from the clutches of the Capitol, but with consequences. Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) and Finnick's love Annie Cresta (Stef Dawson) survived in relatively decent shape, but Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) had ...

Can our beloved friend and family-oriented warrior princess, Miss Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) overthrow the Capitol, in this third deep, dark, and powerful installment based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, ‘Mockingjay’: Part 1?
War on! Game off! The games are finished forever, however, the threat of oppression, and the fight to survive is not. The stakes are just as high as Katniss leads Panem through a full fledged war similar to the current wars in Gaza and Syria.
The film begins with an emotionally agitated Katniss crunched up in a dark corner crying and whispering to herself. When she is approached, she yells, “Don’t touch me!” She awakens in a world that is unfamiliar and foreign to her, a world that she didn’t even know existed:
Enter the dark underground District, District 13!
Finnick (Sam Claflin), who lay in a hospital bed attached to IV drips, proclaims that he wants to go back for his beloved Annie (Stef Dawson), as she has been taken, while Peeta is being held and controlled by President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in The Capitol. Katniss takes the elevator down to meet with Beetee (played by Jeffrey Wright), who is now confined to a wheelchair, Plutarch Heavensbee (the late/great Philip Seymour Hoffman) and President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore). She demands to know if Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) is still alive, questioning “You left Peeta to die?” Plutarch is convinced that Katniss is still the face of the revolution.
Peeta states that “killing is not the answer and he is calling for a ceasefire,” while the people of Panem and District 13 are in an uproar declaring him a traitor.
Katniss finally agrees to be the public role of the ‘Mockingjay’ but only under her terms. As she takes on the role, she appears in “propos” or propaganda videos that District 13 uses to communicate with and inspire rebels across Panem. Katniss’ every move is followed by the media savvy rebels; Cressida (Natalie Dormer from Game of Thrones), Messalla (Evan Ross), Castor (Wes Chatham) and Pollux (Elden Henson)-Squad 451.
Some of the scenes are very grim, like the scene when Gale (played by Liam Hemsworth and who is now a dedicated soldier in the rebellion, and who still has feelings for Katniss) leads her to a demolished District 12 graveyard full of skulls, a room of patients lying on cots being treated by nurses, massive explosions, falling towers, and war planes targeting hospitals.
No one character (with the exception of Katniss), has an exceptionally large role in the film.
Highlights: The powerful musical score by James Newton Howard that directly follows Katniss singing the “Hanging Tree” song, which is again played in the end credits, Lorde’s new song “Yellow Flicker Beat” also played in the end credits, the scene where Katniss is having a difficult time making a propaganda video, while Plutarch is screaming at her, her ‘Hanging Tree’ song, and, of course, her rant, ‘Fire is catching, and if we burn, you burn with us!’...

One of the fall’s biggest movies is undoubtedly going to be The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, the third entry in Lionsgate’s franchise juggernaut, in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) reluctantly becomes the face of a rebellion against the totalitarian Capitol in a dystopian future society. Her decision to fight back against the vicious President Snow (Donald Sutherland) has severe consequences – and a new clip from the film reminds us all that Katniss has a lot to lose.
In the clip, which aired on Good Morning America, Katniss catches a glimpse of her close friend-turned-lover Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), whose fate was left uncertain after he was captured by the Capitol following the explosive end of Catching Fire. It’s not a particularly thrilling scene, though Lawrence’s emotive acting in it does provide a handy reminder of just how well-made and terrifically acted these films have been so far.
