The Alliance of Women Film Journalists (AWFJ) announced their 2023 Eda Awards nominees, with voting members showing their support of awards season favorites including Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Past Lives. The 95 voting members also showered The Holdovers, Oppenheimer, and The Zone of Interest with multiple nominations.
The year-end awards are divided into three main categories: Best Of, Eda Female Focus (for women only), and Special Mention.
“2023 has been a banner year for women working in film. We are particularly proud that this year’s member-determined roster of nominees included a goodly number of female contenders in non-gender specific categories, including Greta Gerwig, Justine Triet, and Celine Song, who are nominated in both the Best Director category and Best Screenplay categories,” stated Jennifer Merin,...

Lizzo‘s legal team has filed a motion to dismiss a harassment and discrimination lawsuit made by a former “disgruntled” employee.
Back in September, the 35-year-old “Juice” singer was named in a lawsuit in a Los Angeles court by her former stylist and designer Asha Daniels, who accused Lizzo of creating “a sexualized, racially charged and illegal work environment.” She alleged that the singer doesn’t stop her management team from mistreating others who work under them.
Asha worked with Lizzo creating costumes for her dancers for her tour this year and alleged that she often worked 20-hour days without a break.
On Friday (December 15), Lizzo‘s attorney requested that the judge dismiss the lawsuit, claiming it was “meritless and salacious.”

This year's Thanksgiving weekend will be packed with new releases, but they just might be chaotic enough to coexist. Historically, the holiday has been one of the high points of the slower fall months at the box office, particularly for family movies. The current record-holder for a Thanksgiving opening is "Frozen," which grossed $67.3 million Friday-to-Sunday and $95.3 million over the full five-day holiday weekend. With the exception of "Creed II," all the other movies in the top 10 are also family films aimed at a younger audience, including "Tangled," "Moana," and "Toy Story 2."
That bodes well for "Trolls Band Together" and "Wish," two of six new wide releases hitting theaters around Thanksgiving 2023, but what about the rest? The grim world of Panem is set to return in dystopian sci-fi "The Hunger Games: The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes." Michael Fassbender will try to coach the American Samoa soccer team into successfully scoring...

A summer full of hope for theaters is giving way to a fall filled with uncertainty. Anxious studios, paralyzed by striking actors and writers demanding better labor contracts, are pushing several films like “Dune: Part Two” and “Kraven the Hunter” to 2024, and there’s a good chance that more release delays will come if the strike continues.
How ironic then, that cinemas might get a bailout not from a studio, but from the Antihero.
Last week, Taylor Swift set the film industry on its ear when AMC Entertainment announced that it would directly distribute a concert film recorded during the pop star’s wildly successful Eras Tour with a full theatrical window starting Oct. 13. After just one day, AMC reported a stunning $26 million from presales. Now, exhibition sources told TheWrap, Swift’s concert film is likely to become the first October release to top $100 million on its opening weekend.
