Dounia Benjelloun

- Director
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Dounia Benjelloun was inspired as a child by her grandfather who distributed films for Columbia Pictures and United international pictures. He owned a chain of movie theaters, immersing Dounia in movies from a very young age. It was her love of film that lead her to study abroad in the US, earning a BA in Communications from American University in Washington DC.
After graduation, she worked as the assistant to the location Manager in both New York and Morocco on the film "Ishtar" for Columbia Pictures and on the Moroccan set of the bond franchise's "The living Daylights" in the advertising department.
These experiences motivated her to found Dounia Productions in Casablanca in 1986. Like her grandfather before her, Dounia presided over seven theaters in Casablanca, Rabat and Tangier between 1991 and 2000. She distributed films to all theaters across Morocco for Columbia and United International Pictures.
Today, Dounia's personal emphasis is on documentary film production and directing. She has an intimate understanding of the global film industry in a range of capacities from film production, advertising and public relations.
Dounia is multilingual with fluency in French, English and Spanish.
