Composer Stephen Edwards offers this tasteful collection of solo piano arrangements of famous film themes with somewhat pleasing results. Tunes on offer include renditions of themes old (Cleopatra, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest), new (Munich, Little Children) and plenty of favourites (The Shawshank Redemption, Once Upon a Time in America). Even his version of My Heart Will Go On is palatable. But perhaps that’s the problem: everything is just a little too tasteful; nothing jars or does anything unexpected or, unfortunately, particularly memorable. Whilst it’s impossible to fault the man on his technical skill, a little more invention in the arrangement or even simply in the selection of the tunes would have gone a long way.
