Dave Grohl joined Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Jon Batiste and Stay Human for a monster jam on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Wednesday.
Grohl was on hand with his mother, Virginia, to discuss From Cradle to Stage, her new book about rock star moms. After the interview, Grohl leapt off the couch and jumped behind a drum set to join Preservation Hall and The Late Show house band for a fiery rendition of the former's new song, "Santiago."

Two weeks before Coachella 2017 begins and a now supersized crowd of 125,000 fans per-day descend on Indio for shows by Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead, Lady Gaga, Dillon Francis, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and more, the side-party scene has taken shape. Other than the Party Report, nobody has nailed the tropes of the desert party template better than an enterprising group of industry professionals from ICM, Insomniac, Uber and digital strategist Greg Baroth, throwing a “Pre-Weekend Desert Music Festival Party.” Check out the invite: This is not a graphic from The Onion. It’s a real event. It could also be the...

I’m not gonna lie, with how hard it is to find something unique and interesting to say about every festival lineup hitting the Edm blogosphere, it’s refreshing that Electric Forest found such an interesting way to release their’s this time around.
As part of a promotional campaign, the Rothbury, Michigan festival mailed card stock slips with groups of artist names printed on each one to festival goers and encouraged them to record and upload videos of each reveal.
…And actually, some of them are pretty entertaining. Take, for instance, this video uploaded by the Electric Forest attendee who received the Flosstradamus and Disco Biscuits announcement:
Or the ones who received the Duke Dumont, Baauer and Bro Safari announcement:
In case you don’t have enough time to watch enough videos to find out all 64 of the artists on Electric Forest‘s 2016 roster, we’ve provided the full list below.

If Rock and Roll and guitar rock is a dying breed, then the rock-doc is certainly becoming a quaint relic. How many documentaries can you make in which an aging rock star waxes poetic about a type of music from 40 years earlier? How much nostalgia, history and navel gazing can you pack into the genre before even the documentaries move on to being nostalgic about boy bands, Taylor Swift and Edm?
As a fan of true guitar rock, a good rock-doc is a welcome diversion from the 21st Century music industry. And yet, a film like last year’s Muscle Shoals can’t help but feel stale. Complete with endless talking heads and anecdotes about old legends who performed in long gone studios, the film aimed to capture...

Review Ron Hogan 24 Oct 2013 - 06:55
Long may American Horror Story's craziness reign, says Ron. Here's his review of Coven's third episode...
This review contains spoilers
3.3 The Replacements
You could very fairly say that the best episodes of American Horror Story are a matter of style over substance. That isn't to denigrate the content of the script, or the big ideas that the show fearlessly launches itself at like some sort of deranged, frothing animal. Indeed, American Horror Story is a show that spits into the eye of big issues no matter what season we're dealing with; the opening credits for Coven alone deal with more of America's shameful history of slavery and racism than a goofy cable show really ought to.
With a character like Kathy Bates' Delphine Lalaurie around, racism and its vileness is going to be something the show returns to time and again...

New Orleans — Little Big Town says that some networking they did is paying off with a chance to cross a couple of items off their "bucket list."
After playing Bayou Country SuperFest in Baton Rouge last year, group member Karen Fairchild said they talked to festival producer Quint Davis about other things they hoped to accomplish. They mentioned that they'd one day like to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
Davis was in a position to help since he also produces Jazz Fest.
Known for its trademark four-part harmonies, Little Big Town performed in New Orleans on Saturday.
"Can you believe we're opening for Fleetwood Mac?" said Kimberly Schlapman, another group member. "We've been wanting to play Jazz Fest forever and now we're opening for Fleetwood Mac and can mark off two big things from our list."

Nashville, Tenn. — There will be a British invasion of the main stage at Bonnaroo this year.
Paul McCartney and Mumford & Sons are among the headliners for the 2013 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
The four-day festival, held on a rural 700-acre farm, always features an eclectic roster, but the June 13-16 event is even more varied than usual.
Returnees Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers also hold down a headliner spot. Then things get a little crazy with R&B star R. Kelly, alternative queen Bjork and Wu-Tang Clan celebrating its 20th anniversary. Wilco, Pretty Lights, The Lumineers, The National, The xx, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Nas and Zz Top also top the list announced Tuesday by "Weird Al" Yankovic via Bonnaroo's YouTube channel.
Tickets go on sale at noon Est on Saturday.
McCartney, the former Beatle and recent frontman of Sirvana, will be making his first appearance at the event.

Sunday night was a big one for the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, who scooped up three awards as a band and an additional Best Producer award for Auerbach. But behind the scenes, the Black Keys frontman was singing a different tune. As Us Weekly exclusively reports, Auerbach is currently going through a divorce from his wife, Stephanie Gonis.
"Dan's wife wasn't there [at the ceremony] because they are going through a divorce," a source told Us Weekly, adding that the split is "unfortunate." The musician also wasn't wearing his wedding band that night.
Auerbach, 33, has a 4-year-old daughter named Sadie with his wife, adds Us Weekly.
The couple's split comes just months after Carney, the second half of the Keys, married Emily Ward, reports Daily Mail. The two tied the knot in the backyard of their home in Nashville last September.

At last night's Grammy Awards, the Black Keys performed "Lonely Boy" along with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Dr. John, who received much attention for his batshit-crazytown headdress (seen above). Though it was easy to make fun of the New Orleans–bred musician for looking like an Ewok witch doctor, Dr. John has rocked such finery for as long as he's been Dr. John. Over the decades, as part of his "Night Tripper" persona, he has regularly hit the stage in be-feathered Mardi Gras–esque costumes. Just take a look at the cover art for his 2012 album, Locked Down. (Produced, incidentally, by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.) We've collected four other pictures for your afternoon amusement:...

Los Angeles -- Toronto rapper Drake finally won his first Grammy Award on Sunday afternoon, while the rest of the Canadian field was shut out at an untelevised ceremony where the bulk of the prizes were handed out ahead of the evening gala.
Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Skrillex won three Grammys each while Jay-z, Kanye West, Esperanza Spalding, Gotye and Chick Corea all won two awards apiece at a three-hour ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in which 70 Grammys were distributed before the splashy TV broadcast.
Drake has been nominated a total of 12 times, and in 10 of those instances, he wound up losing to one of Jay-z, West or Eminem (in fact, the Jay-z/West combo beat him out in two of his nominated categories on Sunday too).

Los Angeles (AP) -- Everybody's thinkin' about Frank Ocean - but his main competition Kanye West and Jay-z took home two early Grammy Awards.

Los Angeles -- The Black Keys still feel like the black sheep of the Grammy Awards.
"It's unexpected. I don't think we'll ever get used to this stuff," singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach said Friday.

The bluesy Ohio-based rockers are nominated for five trophies at Sunday's ceremony. They were rehearsing Friday at the Staples Center with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and legendary New Orleans pianist Dr. John, who'll join the group when they perform "Lonely Boy" live at the Grammys.
Justin Timberlake was also heard rehearsing as he transitioned from his comeback single "Suit & Tie" to a new song called "Push Your Love Girl," which featured his falsetto.

Select box set reviews from The Associated Press:
Johnny Cash, "The Complete Columbia Album Collection" (Columbia/Legacy)
If you're under 40, you likely see Johnny Cash two ways – as the nearly mythological Sun Records proto-rocker and as the wizened old man staring down God in his American Recordings period in the years before his 2003 death.
Between those two important periods lay decades of songs, personalities and re-inventions many folks aren't familiar with. The massive new box set, "The Complete Columbia Album Collection," will help fill in those gaps for anyone interested in Cash beyond the name-checking cachet he brings to your iPod.
A staggering amount of music is gathered here in 63 discs representing a quarter century of output from an American popular culture icon whose career was far more Technicolor than his Man in Black nickname suggests. And the average music fan yet to turn grey has no idea what that...

The key to any voyage into the twangy depths of this weekend's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival is planning.
San Francisco's annual free celebration of bluegrass (and also not bluegrass) in Golden Gate Park, now in its 12th consecutive year, has gotten so popular that shuttling between stages to see all of your favorite bands can prove virtually impossible. Instead, the best idea is often just to get there early, pick a spot near the stage you're most interested in and stay there for the long haul.

While the lineup was announced months ago, the actual full schedule, complete with set times, was only released recently. Essential planning's gotta all be done Right This Very Second.
Our top recommendations are Ben Kweller, Buddy Miller, Robert Earl Keen, The Dirty Three, the Heartless Bastards, Son Volt and Les Claypool's Duo De Twang. If you're curious as to why this is exciting,...

If a city exists unimpeded by any sort of outside force, it will become the victim of entropy. Cultures and influences from different areas bleed into the sinew of a city and force it to become something else. Likewise, traumas can force a city to reexamine itself at the outset of rebuilding. Like a student transferring to a new school, there is an opportunity for reinvention. None of this is particularly negative, and in some cases the results are a net positive, but on some level the choice has to be made and the new vanguard has to be anointed. Tonight’s episode of Treme – prophetically entitled ‘Saints’ – starts the clock on a whole new series of possible cultural influences on New Orleans, some more willing to take their post than others.

Austin, Texas — It was a weekend of epic beginnings and endings at the 10th annual Austin City Limits Festival, among them: Kanye West shut the lid on the operatic My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy tour, Coldplay played one of the final American festival dates in the run-up to the release next month of Mylo Xyloto and perhaps most importantly for locals, Texans danced in ecstasy as the worst drought in Lone Star history got a brief reprieve thanks to some intermittent showers.
Yes, there were three days of amazing music, ranging from folk to house, blues, rock, soul and hip-hop, but along with crowd-pleasing headline sets from such legends as Stevie Wonder and rockers My Morning Jacket and festival-closers Arcade Fire,...

Lenny Kravitz, Mos Def and John Legend took to the stage in New Orleans on Sunday to help out the Gulf Coast. The pop stars, along with local legends like Dr. John, Allen Toussaint and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, headlined the Gulf Aid benefit concert in the hurricane-ravaged city to help raise funds for relief efforts geared towards the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. With a home in New Orleans, its no surprise that Lenny Kravitz was the first performer to commit to ‘Gulf Aid,’ the benefit concert to raise funds for efforts to stop the Gulf oil spill from destroying our wetlands.
The April 20 explosion aboard an oil drilling rig leased by British Petroleum took the lives of 11 people and is one of the biggest oil spills in history in the Gulf of Mexico. Efforts to contain the leak (about 210,000 gallons a day) are underway, and there is a massive local movement to try to trap the oil before it reaches the sensitive wetlands and bayous – the heart of Louisiana’s fishing industry.
‘Gulf Aid’ is one such movement. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 16, from noon to 10 p.m. at that city’s Mardi Gras World River City. The amazing line-up of artists expected to join Kravitz include Allen Toussaint, Mos Def,...
