Ronald Miller has said goodbye to his cheerleader sweetheart. Patrick Dempsey took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to pay respects to his former Can’t Buy Me Love co-star Amanda Peterson, who passed away suddenly over the holiday weekend. In my memory, she will always be vibrant and young. Gone too soon. Sending my thoughts and prayers to Amanda's family. — Patrick Dempsey (@PatrickDempsey) July 7, 2015 Can’t Buy Me Love, a teen comedy about a nerd, Ronald Miller (Dempsey), who attempts to pay head cheerleader Cindy Mancini (Peterson) to be his girlfriend, helped launch the careers of both Dempsey and

Things seem to have gotten Biblical in Madagascar. As evident from this video, shot by Sylvain Lathuy in the capital city of Antananarivo on Aug. 28, there are swarms of locusts darkening the skies over the capital - driven there, say news reports, by a heat wave that unsettled the bugs out of their usual rural environs. The country has endured three successive years of locust swarms, which have wreaked havoc with the African nation's farmers - the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has stepped in, but to no avail. At risk is the food security of more than 13 million people,...

There have been many heist movies over the years, some great, some not so great and some just plain unseen. One of my favourite heist flicks of all time is the little-seen Foolproof, which is a quirky action comedy about a gang of “theoretical” bank robbers who plan heists to perfection but never actually carry them out – that is until one day their plans for a jewellery heist are stolen and used by a real thief, played by the UK’s very own David Suchet (Poirot) who then blackmails the trio, led by a young Ryan Reynolds, into really committing a robbery. Foolproof, despite its low budget was a great mix of action, comedy and sheer quirkiness that I instantly fell in love with…...

There's an interesting trend I've noticed in recent films, including the rom-coms "Going the Distance" and "Heartbreaker," that culminates (so far as I know) this week with the highly derivative--but knowingly so--teen comedy "Easy A." The new movie stars Emma Stone as a girl with such an appreciation for 1980s high school movies that it seems to inadvertently come through in both her dialogue (though her "never had one lesson" remark may have been an intentional "Ferris Bueller" nod) and her social life choices, the latter which turns her into a kind of reverse Ronald Miller (from "Can't Buy Me…...

Roy E. Disney, the nephew of Walt Disney, died today at the age of 79. He was battling stomach cancer and passed away in Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, CA.
Born in 1930, when Roy was just a boy he would play in the hallways of his uncle's studio, sometimes right outside the offices where animators were busy working on the next animated movie. Often his Uncle Walt would invite the playing child in to see what people were working on and ask for the advice of him to see if a sequence being produced was amusing enough or captured the right essence for a child to enjoy it.
When Roy grew up he entered the entertainment business like his uncle, at first working outside the Walt Disney company before moving into an executive position in 1953. He remained at the company where a reputation soon built that the nephew of...

Roy E. Disney, whose efforts to instill his will on the company co-founded by his father and uncle included the ousting of two CEOs and a renewed commitment to animation, died Wednesday, one month shy of his 80th birthday.
The nephew of Walt Disney and only child of Roy O. Disney died after a yearlong battle with stomach cancer at a hospital in Newport Beach, Calif. Funeral services will be private; plans for a "life celebration" will be announced.
HIs body will be cremated and ashes scattered at sea, a fitting tribute to a man with a passion for racing sailboats. In fact, the latest entry in a long list of movie and television credits dating to 1952 when he was an assistant editor on the "Dragnet" TV series, ends with "Morning Light," a documentary about sailing that he exec produced in 2008.
