Exclusive: Northern Irish actor and author Ciaran McMenamin’s 2018 novel Skintown has been set for a big screen adaptation from Keeper Pictures and recent IFTA award winners Cyprus Avenue Films with Anthony Boyle (Masters of The Air) and Josh Finan (Say Nothing) signed on to star.
The pic will be directed by Kieron J. Walsh. Set in the mid-90s during the Ira ceasefire, the film follows the roller coaster journey of two best friends trying to escape their life in a small Irish town. Immersing themselves in the world of raves, drugs and gangs the boys dream big but are thwarted by the realities of the world around them. Exclusive: Richard Flood (Grey’s Anatomy) and Acushla-Tara Kupe (Mr Corman) have been cast as leads in The Gone, a mystery drama series for RTÉ and New Zealand’s Tvnz that brings together Irish and Māori culture. The pair will front the series, which goes into principal photography on location in Auckland and Te Aroha, New Zealand this week, with further shooting taking place in Ireland’s capital Dublin late this year.

The Writers Lab UK & Ireland, a development and marketplace programme for women screenwriters over 40 years old, is returning for a second virtual programme in 2022.
The programme will select up to 12 writers across feature film and TV pilots, for a six-month script development process; submissions are open from today for three weeks.
The UK-Ireland version of the Lab is produced by Julia Berg and Ruth Spencer of UK production company Untamed Stories, in partnership with Elizabeth Kaiden and Nitza Wilson, who founded the original The Writers Lab US with New York Women in Film & Television.

Exclusive: Irish indie feature Extra Ordinary, a horror comedy about a ghost-busting duo, premiered in 2019 at SXSW to rave reviews.
It is now being adapted as a half-hour comedy series for TBS.
The Turner-owned cable network has put the project into development with Animal Pictures, the production company run by Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne, and Danielle Renfrew Behrens.
The trio will produce the adaptation with Katie Holly & Yvonne Donohoe of Ireland’s Blinder Films, who produced the original movie with Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman, who wrote and directed the original feature attached to write and direct the series.
Extra Ordinary follows Rose and Martin, a ghostbustin’ duo, as they counsel ghosts in their small Irish village while navigating their own budding and sometimes awkward relationship. Everything is going well until an American family with supernatural powers moves into the local castle.

Exclusive: AMC Networks’ horror streamer Shudder has picked up North American rights to Boys From County Hell, Chris Baugh’s comedy-horror that recently had its world premiere at Sitges.
The movie was selected for this year’s Tribeca fest before that event was cancelled. Now, it will premiere on Shudder in the U.S. and Canada next year.
Starring Jack Rowan (Peaky Blinders), Nigel O’Neill (The Bookshop), Louisa Harland (Derry Girls), Fra Fee (Animals) and John Lynch (The Terror), the film follows Eugene Moffat, who spends his days drinking pints with his friends and pranking tourists at the grave site of Abhartach — a legendary Irish vampire who may have inspired Stoker’s infamous Dracula. Independent has signed a North American deal with Gravitas Ventures for Kieron J. Walsh’s Irish cycling drama The Racer.
The London-based sales outfit is showcasing the film at next week’s Cannes online Marché. Screen exclusively reveal the first trailer for the film, above.
Set in summer 1998, The Racer follows late-career cyclist Dom Chabol, who has been one of the best support riders on the Tour de France for 20 years, but secretly harbours a desire to wear the yellow jersey once before his career is over. Walsh wrote the script with Ciaran Cassidy.
