Don’t be confused about the title The Apprentice. This is not a movie version of the NBC reality TV series in any way, but instead a smart, sharp and surprising origin story of the man who hosted it. In this case the actual “apprentice” is Donald Trump, infamous real estate developer, former President of the United States and current presumed GOP nominee for 2024.
But the political Trump is not in Iranian-Danish director Ali Abbasi’s compelling film, which instead zeroes in on a specific period of Trump’s life in the early ’70s when he was in his 20s and struggling to make a name for himself in the world of real estate in New York City. But it isn’t just about him — it is equally focused on his unique relationship with his lawyer, the notorious Roy Cohn, often referred to as vicious, cruel, ruthless and sadistic, a...

When a great actor like Dabney Coleman passes away, there is no shortage of platitudes that come from the acting community. There is a shorter list of people who repay their admiration or a good turn, when it really makes a difference. That’s when the actor is still alive. Quentin Tarantino has done it many times, resurrecting careers, and Yellowstone co-creator did it by casting Coleman in a flashback scene with Kevin Costner that is a most fitting epitaph for the actor. His touching turn as John Dutton Sr. was also a pivotal plot point, revealing a promise made by John Dutton (Kevin Costner) that explains why he would not sell off a single square foot of his sprawling Montana ranch. Why did Sheridan choose Coleman? It goes back to when Sheridan was trying to make it as an actor, long before he found his purpose as a prolific storyteller.

Mark Ronson was Amy Winehouse’s producer and collaborator who helped her reach great creative and commercial heights with her biggest songs.
But the Daily Mail reports that the role of Oscar winner Ronson has been cut from forthcoming biopic about the London singer. The movie is named after Winehouse’s second award-winning album and classic track, Back to Black, which Ronson produced.
It reports that Canadian actor Jeff Tunke filmed scenes in character as Ronson, but the scenes have been cut from the final edit, and Tunke’s name removed from the movie’s credits on IMDb.
The Mail quotes the biopic’s producers who explained: “The character of Mark Ronson has never appeared on screen in the film, so it would not have been possible to ‘cut all the scenes’ involving Mark Ronson as they do not exist.”

The end of Season 24’s Knockouts on The Voice wasn’t necessarily the end of the line for four lucky eliminees. Following a particularly excellent three-way sing-off, Carson Daly informed coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire of a change to the rules that allowed them each to invite one contestant back to the show. Who were their picks? That, we won’t find out until Monday’s episode. In the meantime, let’s recap what may have been the KOs’ best night.

Monday’s episode of The Voice not only served up the last of Season 24’s Battles, it threw out the first of the three-way Knockouts. The rules are mostly the same as in Season 22: John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire group their team members in threes to try to out-sing one another. The coach then picks a winner, and the two losers are available to be saved by their coach or stolen by an opponent. Or — and this is new — each of the coaches can use their Supersave to keep an additional contestant in the competition...

The "Transformers" movies are filled with questionable choices, but bringing Peter Cullen back to voice Optimus Prime is not one of them. Reprising the role for the first time since the 1980s, Cullen became the voice of Prime for Millennials and Zoomers, just as he had been for the Gen Xers who watched the original cartoon as children.
In the lead-up to the first movie's release, Paramount Pictures held the online contest "Make Prime Speak" (hosted on www.transformersmovie.com). From October 2-23, 2006, entrants could submit a piece of dialogue (120 characters or less) that they wanted to hear Optimus Prime say in the then-upcoming movie. Per contest rules, Peter Cullen would recite the winning line in his John Wayne-esque baritone.
The line ultimately chosen was "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings." This was Prime's motto, according to his original toy bio, but Cullen never said it before.

Three decades ago, Christian Slater met Val Kilmer on the set of True Romance, the Quentin Tarantino-penned, Tony Scott-directed crime thriller. Slater played Clarence Worley, an Elvis Presley fanatic, while Kilmer portrayed the Mentor, an Elvis-like figment of Clarence’s imagination. Slater and Kilmer, who first made their names in the 1980s, would go on to work together another three times in the early 2000s, making their latest connection on Jonathan Kasdan’s Willow (2022) sequel series all the more fitting.
With Covid-19 restrictions preventing Kilmer from reprising his beloved rogue swordsman, Madmartigan, from Ron Howard’s 1988 film, Kasdan knew he needed another wildcard-type character that could bring a similar energy. So he created Allagash, a former knight and running mate of Madmartigan, and the first person he thought of for the role was Slater.

Twelve years after the musician Greyson Chance went viral for a cover of “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga, he is now speaking about his experience being mentored by Ellen DeGeneres. He was formerly signed to her eleveneleven record label and got many of opportunities after appearing on her show and elsewhere, but now has much less love for her and referred to her as “controlling” and “manipulative” in a new interview with Rolling Stone.
The host awarded Chance 10,000 and a new piano on the show, and even offered to help guide his career which he and his family accepted. After DeGeneres guided him through recording his first EP and tours, Chance realized that she had “became domineering and way too controlling,” also adding that one text from DeGeneres could upend “my whole whole week, my whole month, my whole year.”
He also recounted a story of hearing DeGeneres berate his mother...

Sarah Elizabeth Mintz moved back to New York this month after a seven-year stint in Los Angeles while she was working out Good Girl Jane, her debut feature that just landed with a splash, winning Best Narrative Film at the Tribeca Festival as well as Best Actress for star Rain Spencer.
In a conversation with Deadline, Mintz describes the long path and motivation behind the drama of teenage alienation and addiction inspired by her real-life freshman year in high school. “Substance abuse carries a lot of shame a lot of misconception,” she said. “What mattered was to shed some light on the isolation I felt. I know that had I seen that type of isolation on the screen, it would truly have affected me, made me feel less alone.”
