Daniil Medvedev 's temper reached close to boiling point during his fiery four-set win at the 2023 US Open .
Medvedev had looked to be in cruise control in the first two sets, initially being absolutely rock solid from the baseline, efficient on a stable backhand and he was doing a good job at outstaying Chris O'Connell in the typical physical points that the Russian always searches for.
However, once the Australian began to raise his level and saved a match point late into the third set, Medvedev really did start to fall apart mentally, and it took quite some time for him to steady the ship and regain some of the concentration to get the job done.
Medvedev is no stranger to outbursts and confrontations at the US Open , and there is a considerable amount of history in what has been a love-hate relationship between the player and the US Open crowd over the years.

Daniil Medvedev 's ongoing clash with the hostile crowds at the US Open has reignited this season after the Russian snapped at spectators at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
In his second-round clash against Australian Chris O'Connell, Medvedev started at a blistering pace and raced to a two-set lead. However, O'Connell clawed back from match point down to take the match into a final set, which Medvedev eventually won 6-2.
Throughout the topsy-turvy encounter, tensions were high, and the crowd were firmly backing O'Connell, especially after he bounced back with a third-set win. The spectators whipped up plenty of noise before Medvedev was about to serve in the final set, which led to an outburst from the Russian towards the crowd.
"Can you shut up guys?"
"Are you stupid or what?"
Ultimately, Medvedev's confrontation did little to suppress the crowd's support for O'Connell. However, the US Open third seed was able...

Daniil Medvedev was quick to breeze through his opening round match against Attila Balazs, dropping just two games and going on to bagel the Hungarian in the third set.
Medvedev's overall level has been quite patchy for some time this season and he has not only experienced some uncharacteristic results, but also lost some significant matches to his rivals, including Alexander Zverev in Cincinnati , and weeks prior to that, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semi-final.
All appeared to be fine today at the 2023 US Open , as he had far too much baseline solidity, discipline, and hard-court pedigree for someone like Balazs, who is far more adept on a slower clay court. Medvedev praised his own performance after the match:
"Yeah, that is probably the fastest three-set match I've played, even though I'm not sure, but probably. I felt not bad on the court. Quite well. Looking forward to the next rounds.
