The six-year-old boy who allegedly shot his elementary school teacher in January 2023 will not be charged.
The student shot his teacher, Abigail Zwerner, at Richneck Elementary School on January 6. Zwerner was hit in the chest and wasn’t released from the hospital until more than a week after the incident.

Newport News, Virginia, Commonwealth’s Attorney Howard Gwynn said that after conducting research, they “do not believe the law supports charging and convicting a 6-year-old with aggravated assault.”
In a news briefing, police chief Steve Drew stated that the investigation involved interviewing many witnesses, students and children. In a previous interview, Drew said there was a possibility that the boy’s parents could face charges.

The mayor of Newport News, Virginia where, a day earlier, a six-year-old elementary student brought a gun to school and intentionally shot his teacher, called the incident a “red flag for the country” during a press conference Saturday.
Mayor Phillip Jones told reporters that the teacher — a woman in her 30s — remains hospitalized following the shooting, but is “trending in a positive direction.”

Even in silly season, the decision to consider Jose Enrique as an apparently legitimate short term option to bolster Newcastle’s defensive options was a particularly strange one. The player has had a disastrous time recently with Liverpool and he looks a shadow of the player who stood out in Newcastle’s first season back in the Premier League under Chris Hughton and Alan Pardew.
Ultimately, it turns out he’s not going to sign – apparently thanks to the Magpies’ reluctance to give him a long enough deal – and is now going to wait for his contract to run down. Beggars can be choosers, it seems.
But why were Newcastle even considering the deal? He’s not the same player as he once was and if Newcastle are looking for a longer term option for left-back, signing him would be a bad idea for all parties.

Running a marathon is an incredible achievement. It takes motivation, dedication and a lot of hard work. As well as physically preparing yourself for being able to run the distance, you also need to be in the right emotional and mental state, otherwise you’re setting yourself up for a fail before you’ve even crossed the start line. But don’t worry, because you’re ready and it’s almost race day. You’ve got this.
On the day you’ll be surrounded by other runners who may or may not have the same running experience as you and it doesn’t matter what position you come in, as long as you cross that finish line without an injury.
Your fellow runners are sort of like your team mates and a few words of encouragement to one another can really help, and so can the...

Tottenham Hotspur could make a bid for Newcastle United’s Cheick Tiote, according to the Evening Standard.
Reports state that the North London club have made an enquiry for the defensive midfielder.
Mauricio Pochettino was hoping to bring in Zenit St Petersburg’s Axel Witsel but it seems the move has broken down as the Russian side priced their star midfielder at €100 million.
Tiote is no longer a key player at St James’ Park and despite still being not fully fit, Steve McClaren seems to prefer Vurnon Anita and Jack Colback.
The Ivorian has been on the bench for Newcastle this season but has lacked quality when called upon. A move to North London could see Tiote given a first-team place and regain the impressive form he showed two years ago.

Newcastle United are willing to allow Haris Vuckic to leave before the end of the transfer window for a fee in the region of £450,000, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claim that there has been interest from both Turkey and France for the attacking-midfielder, but that he is keen to drop down into The Championship and continue his career in England.
Vuckic confirmed earlier this month that he will be leaving the Magpies this summer, with the 23-year-old revealing Steve McClaren told him it was the “best way” for both parties if he moved on.

“We’ve signed who!?” is a question Sunderland fans are more than used to asking over the years. It’s not an exclamation often attached to obscure foreign imports; such signings are usually treated with a dangerous dose of optimism. More often than not, it’s a statement of disbelief, usually followed by a futile plea for reason.
Many surprising, hopeful, and downright strange signings have been made on Wearside. Some defied the odds and proved themselves to the skeptical red and white faithful, but most sadly confirmed everybody’s suspicions.
The reasons a transfer may be considered odd are numerous; some purchases have been well past their sell-by date, others simply of a far lower standard than necessary. Some even used to play for Newcastle United.
Whatever the reason, Sunderland fans can always rest assured that almost every summer transfer window will bring with it...

Chris Hughton is one of the few men to actually have sampled what it really is like to work under Mike Ashley at Newcastle United – and the Brighton & Hove Albion manager fears they are once again heading towards the Premier League trapdoor.
The 56-year-old guided the Magpies out of the Championship as the division’s winners back in 2009-10 – only to be unceremoniously sacked by Ashley the following season – and he thinks that Newcastle need to start winning games if they are to avoid being relegated once more.
Aston Villa, Leicester City, Hull City and Sunderland remain in vulnerable positions – but they are gathering points, while the Magpies have failed to add to their tally of 35 since the end of February, and Hughton thinks relegation could even come down to goal difference. Newcastle have lost eight-straight matches and look simply incapable of getting anything from their...

Newcastle United have vehemently denied claims made by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme about the club’s retail relationship with Sport Direct – blasting the expose as offering “erroneous media reporting” in an attempt to “further antagonise fans”.
“The Secrets of Sports Direct”, broadcast on Monday night, went behind the scenes at the sportswear giant and the programme suggested Magpies owner Mike Ashley’s retail company received a portion of the money spent in Newcastle’s official club shops – something the club have described as “wholly inaccurate”.
In fact, the programme claimed the retail arm of Newcastle United is worth £3.4 million to Sports Direct – and that the club receives no money from Ashley to advertise his company around St James’ Park.

Newcastle United have refuted what they label “wholly inaccurate” claims about the club’s retail relationship with Sports Direct made by Channel 4 in a special Dispatches programme.
“Secrets of Sports Direct” suggested that the Magpies get absolutely no money from club owner Mike Ashley for displaying advertising of his business around St James’ Park.
The programme also claimed that the retail arm of Newcastle United is worth £3.4 million to Sports Direct – but the club released a statement just minutes after the hour-long expose aired on Monday night denying these claims and stating they will clarify their position on Tuesday.

The club released the following statement on their official website, nufc.co.uk:
“The Club has noted the Channel 4 ‘Dispatches’ programme aired tonight (Monday, 27th April) and in particular the reference to the terms of the retail relationship between the Club and Sports Direct.

For too long now Newcastle United Football Club has deceived its fans in relation to the ambitions of the club.
Now that the large majority of Magpies have sussed out what’s going on behind closed doors at St James’ Park, questions have been raised that the powers that be have been forced to answer.
To do this, instead of taking the normal route of talking to Sky Sports News and the like, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley likes to send a couple of his subordinates for a face-to-face meeting with a select few of the clubs fans.
These meetings, known as the Fans Forum, are relatively new but have proved to be successful thus far.

There are few cities as culturally engrained in Britain’s imagination as Newcastle. From the locals and their distinctive accent, to the rich history of industry, the long traditions of invention, and especially the mishaps of the football team, the rest of the country’s got a wonderful and insatiable curiosity with it.
But Newcastle’s undergoing something of a Tardis effect at present. Just like those scenes in Dr Who, where the Timelord’s latest companion enters his spaceship and marvels at the fact it’s bigger on the inside, so the whole world is amazed at just how much is crammed inside of the city’s walls – despite how small and insignificant it might have looked from where they lived.
If you were lucky enough to have been born there though, this comes as no surprise. New bars and cultural hotspots are great, but...

After Gael Bigirimana was linked with a loan move to Yeovil Town – which the League One side apparently ruled out in the end – Alan Pardew has come out in the press to talk up the value of loans, since the club have enjoyed some success from them.
Such a blanket statement is wrong however, as Newcastle have only profited from the right loans, and simply sending out youth talents anywhere and hoping they come good is not the right move.
Yes, Newcastle profited from loan moves for Mehdi Abeid, Paul Dummett and Sammy Ameobi (to a lesser extent), and in the past have seen a good developmental move for Steven Taylor, but it is the circumstances of those loans that matter as much as the destination. Abeid went to Panathinaikos and profited from top level European training, Dummett won a Scottish cup (a confidence boost that...

So much for famous cup nights being a thing of the past with Newcastle United.
Perhaps because of the tide of good feeling that swept in with the unexpected but hard-fought victory over Manchester City in the last round, Newcastle have taken a full allocation of 5400 for the quarter final tie at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham aren’t going to know what’s hit them.
The question now will be whether Alan Pardew will rest some of his first team with the hugely important home derby against Sunderland coming up just days after on Sunday the 21st. Purposefully weakening the team against City paid off after all, but now some of the key players in that victory – Dummett and Abeid in particular – are in the first team proper, so playing them as cover isn’t an option.

As widely expected, Rangers board-member in waiting Derek Llambias is now in Glasgow, running his rule over the club in his capacity as Mike Ashley’s consultant before reporting back to his boss.
Some might have been a little shocked by the revelation that Llambias would be happy to work with Ashley given that he walked away from Newcastle after the appointment of Joe Kinnear, but it seems the “bad feeling” that we were sold when Ashley apparently went behind his back seems to have been over-stated somewhat. Because, otherwise, why would Llambias be back in as Ashley’s right-hand man?
Reports have suggested that Ashley is coming in to nurse the club back to full health, but he doesn’t really need to – in fact it would be better not to considering his continued (and desired) association with Newcastle. Llambias might have a track record...

The loan model at Newcastle United is severely broken: players are sent out not for their development, but so that they are out of sight and out of mind. Remie Streete has already admitted that he moved to Port Vale because Alan Pardew told him he would be no more than fourth or fifth choice at the club – a prediction that didn’t seem to take into account any potential loss of form or injury to unlikely first choice pairing Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini (but then that’s Newcastle for you).
And like Streete, Northern Irish midfielder Shane Ferguson – who has just played part in two victories for his country this week – is clearly unwanted by the club. Despite being sent out on a two year loan to Birmingham City, the writing was on the wall last year when Pardew said he wanted to hear...

Having witnessed two of the three statistically worst campaigns in Premier League history, Sunderland fans may be forgiven for sometimes thinking that the whole team have stolen a living. For every hero in the mould of Niall Quinn or Julio Arca, the club are seemingly dealt five or six stinkers in return. From centre backs celebrating a last-minute winner (for the opposing side) to hotheaded new boys wrecking the atmosphere of the dressing room, Sunderland supporters are well used to venting their frustration and anger at some truly rotten signings.
While the Black Cats’ few once-in-a-lifetime talents will go unforgotten at the Stadium of Light, some of the team’s less admirable characters may have slipped your mind. Here’s a rundown of the very worst on Wearside.

The start of the 2014/15 season hasn’t exactly gone as planned so far, but with the glimmer of European qualification still very much alive, and the perpetual chance of running away with the Spl as long as no great rival appears, a bad start could make way to a good season. But there is work to be done, not least on the squad as it stands: Ronny Deila can only do so much with what is available and he needs his board to make funds available to strengthen, or the club will not move forward.
With the very real possibility of an Old Firm reunion next season, Celtic cannot stand to stagnate, and only a strong season, and a strong statement of intent in every competition they are in will suffice. And that will mean boosting the squad and boosting the quality of the first team.
