You’ve waited through the six second superflash, and now there’s finally a “real” trailer, but did you get what you were after?
This is a curious clip really, because if you know where this is going (because you know the comics), then… well, you know where it’s going, but if you don’t, what do you really know from this trailer? I suspect you don’t know a whole hell of a lot, even if you’ve seen every movie to come out with Wolverine in it.

I mean, you now Japan is involved, and you’ve got certain tidbits of info to piece together, but do you have any idea what the film is going to be about?
Anyway, The Wolverine is coming in July, and I suppose there is a certain argument to the theory that relaying plot effectively isn’t all that necessary.

The joint offspring of the Romanian Film Institute and Bethnal Green's Four Corners centre, East Meets East gave young Londoners a chance to develop their filmmaking skills under the tutelage of established stars. A few weeks ago, Eye For Film spoke to Radu Muntean about his involvement in the project. Now we hear from James Fisher, the participant whose work so impressed the organisers that he was recommended for specialist training.
"I started off studying fine art a Chelsea University," James tells me. "I majored in media. Then I discovered photography and filmmaking and I graduated with a Film and Video Degree at London College of Communication. Since then I've done various film courses."
This led him to the East Meets East project, which he saw advertised just days before it started. "I always look out for local schemes involving local people," he explains. "I find that it's a great way.

Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and its sister (brother?) movie The Hobbit: There and Back Again were shot in 3D for a reported $500 million, which is about half the gross domestic product of African nations such as The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Liberia. Jackson’s gamble goes further when you take into account that The Hobbit movies were shot in 48 frames per second — twice the normal speed rate. About ten minutes from The Hobbit were screened at the theater owners’ CinemaCon convention earlier this week. The results were at best mixed. Wide vistas received wide praise; indoor scenes were panned. "Indeed, the footage shown did seem hyper-realistic," wrote Amy Kaufman in the Los Angeles Times‘ "old school" (joke…) blog 24 Frames. "An opening aerial shot of dramatic rocky mountains appeared clearer than the images in most nature documentaries. But...

We're one year away from the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Peter Jackson's two new movies set in the land of Middle-earth. Serving as a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit tells the story of a young Bilbo Baggins (this time played by Martin Freeman) who, asked by Gandalf the Grey (a returning Ian McKellen), sets out with a band of dwarven fighters to the Lonely Mountains.
A new image from the first Hobbit movie was released on the film's Facebook page. In it we see a nice clear look of Freeman's Bilbo surrounded by his dwarf companions. As described by the official Facebook page, we're looking at:
(L-r) James Nesbitt as Bofur, Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins (front), Stephen Hunter as Bombur, Graham McTavish as Dwalin, William Kircher as Bifur and Jed Brophy as Nori in New Line Cinema’s and MGM’s...

In a matter of hours Warner Bros. will be releasing the first trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, the first half of a two-part series, based on the novel written by J.R. Tolkien, and prequel to the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. But until the time hits 7 P.M. Est, we got a teaser image from The Hobbit. Continuing (or in this case starting) the legacy of all hobbits, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) will embark on an adventure unlike any other, and will be joined by a company of dwarfs. The movie also stars Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, and Stephen Fry. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012. The second part, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released in December 2013.

What has caught the eye of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman)? It's like he's staring over my shoulder at some approaching wonder. It's probably not footage from the movie in which he stars, and perhaps we'll find out what he sees when that footage is unveiled. In fact, we'll see the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey tonight at 10pm Est / 7pm Pst, and I'm very much looking forward to Peter Jackson's return to Middle-Earth. Read Peter Jackson’s message on his decision not to show any footage at this year’s Comic-Con, which begins today.
…we won’t be doing any Hobbit presentation at Comic Con in San Diego this year. New Line and Warner Bros were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There’s so much more of the films still to shoot. I just wanted to get that out there, because I’ve seen various references to the possibility of something Hobbity at Comic Con.

If you have been following BoomTron‘s faithful coverage of the making of The Hobbit, then you already know the two films in the daring prequel features “a bunch of snarky dwarves.” That’s a direct quote from our story on the recent Middle Earth themed Empire magazine cover story. Now it is time to meet those crazy dwarves.

Here’s a note of explanation:

Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed the first of many character promotional stills from Part One of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey via the film’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/TheHobbitMovie). First up – The Dwarves.
Dori, Nori & Ori
These three brothers, all sons of the same mother, could not be more different from each other. Dori, the oldest, spends much of his time watching out for Ori, the youngest; making sure he’s not caught a chill or got himself killed by Wargs or Goblins. No-body quite knows what Nori gets up to most of the time, except that it’s guaranteed to be dodgy and quite probably, illegal.

Peter Jackson revealed a first look at three of the dwarves we’ll be meeting in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Dori, Nori, and Ori. They are played by Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, and Mark Hadlow and look pretty awesome and quite different from Lord of the Rings’ Gimli. I’m excited that so much detail and personality are being preserved in these dwarves, who are such a huge part of these films.

Chicago – It was pretty clear by the set-up of his character and his limited screen time in the actual movie that Ryan Reynolds was meant for bigger things with his turn as Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. And when the Gavin Hood-directed and Hugh Jackman-starring blockbuster went on to make over $80 million domestically in its first three days, a spin-off was inevitable and the project was confirmed this week.
“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” is itself a spin-off of the “X-Men Trilogy” - Bryan Singer’s “X-Men” & “X2: X-Men United” and Brett Ratner’s “X-Men: The Last Stand”. And the film is designed for more spin-offs, as it introduces the world to a variety of Marvel Universe characters. A Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movie has been in some stage of rumor or production for years. So a “Deadpool” film seemed nearly inevitable. (He mentioned the project to me personally years ago...
