C.B. Glasscock
- Writer
Carl Burgess Glasscock was an author, journalist and chronicler of the
history of the American West. He was born on May 4, 1884, in Fresno,
California, the third child of Aldea Amazon and Sarah Glasscock. His
father was a native of Missouri and had practiced medicine there and
later in California. Glasscock began working for the Fresno Democrat
while still attending the University of California at Berkeley and
would later, with help of C.E. Kunze, publish a small newspaper in the
community of Greenwater, California, not far from Death Valley. In 1907
Glasscock and Kunze were able to print a special edition of their paper
12 hours after a fire destroyed their office. Glasscock would go on to
be an editorial writer for the Chicago Tribune and production manager
for Liberty Magazine. In addition to his numerous books about the
history of the West, he was also a frequent contributor of stories and
articles to national periodicals.
Carl Burgess Glasscock died at his home in Laguna Beach, California, on November 14, 1942. His wife Marion, whom he married in 1915, was five years his senior and not mentioned in either his obituary or death notice.
