One woman's search for her missing son puts her on the path to a teenager who just might be descended from heavenly, cannibalistic giants in the new horror comic book series Daisy. Written and illustrated by Colin Lorimer, the first issue of Daisy will be released on December 8th from Dark Horse Comics, and we caught up with Lorimer in a new Q&a feature to discuss what readers can expect from his new five-issue series, how he approaches the creative process of making a comic book, and the heavenly and hellish influences that inspired him while creating Daisy.
What can you tell our readers about the origins of Daisy?
It all started with the voices in my head and the visions of heaven.
Well, not quite.
The main spark for the book was John Dee. I’d been reading up on him for years and found it fascinating that Dee,...

What’s the sign of a good book? Really making you look forward to that next issue. What’s the sign of a Great book? One that makes you check the schedules each week to see when it’s going to appear. For me, this is a great book. Milligan is writing it on several levels, you can choose to just enjoy it on the one level you so choose, or you can look for all the hidden winks and nods, the sly digs at authority and the political classes, the microscope held up to society. Most importantly for me, it continues to bottle the essence of what made The Prisoner great, while making strides forward with new characters and new interpretations.
Final issue time, and I’ll say up front I’m expecting a nice little tidy resolution.

This series has been blinding since it’s relaunch. Smart, sassy, political, satirical, and full of sleight of hand. Know what’s going on? No you don’t. You only think you know what’s going on, rather like Breen, the new Number 6. Oh sure, he thought his plan to infiltrate The Village by pretending to be a traitor was very smart, but he underestimated the psychological assault he was walking into. He’s in there to rescue old partner Carey after all but, hey, she doesn’t seem to want rescuing. Or does she? Another fly in the proverbial is the fact Section, his head of department in MI5, is now in The Village as well, supposedly kidnapped. He also just happens to be the only person who knows Breen is not a traitor. Oh, what a tangled web we weave…...

What a great re-launch of this property issue 1 was. Any doubts there were about The Prisoner, the epitome of late 1960′s quirky TV along with shows like The Avengers, being out of date or simply not relevant were firmly put to bed. Peter Milligan managed to seamlessly combine the elements of what made the original great, with elements from the here and now, and created a whole new beast. Information is power, was then and is even more so now. Just ask Breen.
Breen, of course, is the newest inhabitant of The Village. For those coming in late, Breen is a MI5 agent, and has deliberately got himself captured and made a ‘guest’ of The Village. Why? His partner and lover, Carey, was herself taken by The Village, and Breen wants to rescue her. I should say ‘was...

You know something has a place in the national consciousness when it keeps reappearing every generation. The Prisoner has become just such a cult hit, its fans every bit as passionate as those of Star Trek or Star Wars for example. Just so happens I’m a fan of all the above, but The Prisoner is a truly unique concept. I loved the uncertainty of it all. Is what’s going on real? Who are the bad guys? Who can you trust? It originally tapped into a late 1960′s distrust of authority, and it didn’t hurt that it also embraced the spy genre, going through James Bond-fueled popularity at the time. The TV show was surprisingly brief, just 17 episodes, considering how influential the show is, but the show was just the beginning as it turned out.

To celebrate the first UK broadcast of celebrated cult favourite The Prisoner, Titan Comics – licensed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment – are pleased to announce an all-new comic books based on the original TV show written by Peter Milligan (The Mummy, Dan Dare, Hellblazer) with art by Colin Lorimer (The X-Files, Hellraiser, Harvest) coming in 2018!
The Prisoner first aired on ITV in the United Kingdom on 29 September 1967 – and in 1968 in the Us – and was an immediate smash hit with global audiences due to its surreal mix of spy fiction with sci-fi, allegory and psychological drama elements. The worldwide smash hit series starred Patrick MacGoohan (Danger Man, Escape from Alcatraz) as Number 6 – the fiery British former secret agent who is abducted and held prisoner in a shadowy coastal village, where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job.

Snake Plissken is literally dropped into a battlefield, Koba and Pope have an ape-style smackdown, Jack Burton and Lo Pan strive to survive the horrors of the Endless Hells of Legend, Dana and Aban go deeper into a tunnel system, and the battle for Midian takes place—this is just a tease of what Boom! Studios has in store for readers this April. We have an early look at the cover art for that month’s installments of Burning Fields, Escape From New York, and Big Trouble in Little China, as well as the final issues of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Clive Barker’s Nightbreed.

Millennium #1
Writer: Joe Harris
Artist: Colin Lorimer
Colorist: Joana Lafuente
Publisher: Idw Publishing
Price: $4
My experience with the world of Chris Carter’s TV shows consists of a few scattered X-Files episodes (specifically ones written by William Gibson or starring Tony Todd) and a half hour of the Millennium pilot (also about fifteen minutes of Harsh Realm). I remember absolutely loving these things but not being able to watch more because up until I was about 16, I wasn’t allowed to watch much TV, and certainly not the scary stuff. By the time I was 16, any interest I might have had in TV was scoured away by my devoted passion to my Super Nes. As I’ve gotten older, my caution in sampling The X-Files and Millennium has been due to the size of the commitment; I know the series are intertwined and that The X-Files...

We’ve talked about the work of artist Colin Lorimer more than once in the past here at Destroy The Brain. He was the artist on sci-fi thriller Blackout as well as a contributing artist on Hellraiser: Bestiary and the consensus is that he’s one of the best comic book artists working in horror right now so when it was announced that he would be doing a brand new horror comic with Hoax Hunters creator Michael Moreci, I was keen to see the results, as their work together on the under-appreciated werewolf horror book Curse deserved more attention than it got (certainly, I’m to blame for ignoring it completely). Tim Daniel and Michael Moreci tackled werewolves in Curse and they’re back with a Middle Eastern supernatural tale in Burning Fields. With the first of eight issues due out on Wednesday, we caught up with the two comic book writers to talk about their latest project:
After working together on Curse, did you guys already know that you’d be getting together for another project? How did that come about?
Tim Daniel: Curse was a bit of lightning in the bottle. I think we all were very gratified by the experience of working together on that series. Personally speaking, I certainly was very excited by the result and welcomed the chance to be included with the same creative team again which extends to letterer Jim Campbell and our new colorist Joana Lafuente. Every single contributor to both Curse and Burning Fields are top-notch storytellers, so I definitely appreciate being in their company.

Burning Fields #1
Written by Michael Moreci and Tim Daniel
Art by Colin Lorimer; Colors by Joana Lafuente

When Isis (or Isil, or Daesh if you prefer) declared a caliphate last year, there was an inescapable sense of doom: here was more of that blowback the critics had spoken of, and on a massive scale. The West was not done with Iraq, nor it with the west. Burning Fields is a new miniseries from Boom! Studios set amongst the oil fields of post-invasion Kirkuk and the very promising and powerful first issue is awash in a similar foreboding.
Iraq certainly isn’t done with Dana Atkinson. Much of her backstory is yet to be revealed but she’s a former military investigator drawn back to Kirkuk by a series of gruesome murders to which an old nemesis may be connected.

Pinhead has become the hunted in Boom! Studios’ Hellraiser: Bestiary miniseries, but the holder of the Lament Configuration is fighting like hell to keep his pins from being plucked by poachers. Last week was moving week. It’s been a little hectic. It’s cool though, because if my plans go through the way I want them to, you’ll have more Comic Execution than you can handle in about a month. Here’s a hint: Fire & Stone.

The universe of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser is a rich and dark one and it is ripe to have writers come in and explore in a multitude of gruesome ways. That is the goal of Boom!’s new Hellraiser: Bestiary mini-series. This first issue of the six-part anthology is a bit of a mixed bag, as is the case with many anthologies.
The first story, “Symphony in Red”, written by Ben Meares and Mark Miller and art by Conor Nolan is a flawed, but a fun and twisted ride. Set in Hell and told from the point-of-few of the Female Cenobite, the story focuses on her watching, as Pinhead is acting more bloodthirsty than ever. His bloodlust is so insatiable that he is neglecting his other duties as Hell’s high priest. The strengths of this story lie in the grisly visuals as Pinhead tortures and tears apart hopeless sinners,...

The universe of Hellraiser is a rich and dark one, full of sick possibilities and it’s great to see that Boom! is really embracing the brand. With some really interesting up-and-coming writers and artists, fans of the Cenobites seem to be in for a real treat with this one. Check out some of the press release from Boom! below.
Over the past three years, Clive Barker has re-imagined the Hellraiser mythos as only he could, building a long-form narrative that became one of the best-received horror comics in recent memory. Now, the Master of Horror takes us into his Bestiary for an anthology series—free of continuity, but full of shocking consequences. This series will feature comics’ rising stars like Ed Brisson...

The traveler of multiple realms, it’s no surprise that Pinhead is no stranger to the panels of comic books. His return to the medium this time is via Boom! Studios’ mini-series, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Bestiary, that hits shelves with its first issue this August with a Tales From The Crypt-like anthology format. One of the story arcs features a seemingly impossible and suicidal mission for a team of mercenaries: the stealing of the head Cenobite’s pins.
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Bestiary #1 will be available online and in comic book shops on August 20th. We have the official details and looks at all three covers below:

After a brief hiatus, Boom! Studios is getting ready to launch a new Hellraiser comic book mini-series in August. This time, the series will go with a Tales From The Crypt-like anthology format, giving us new tales in the Hellraiser universe from a variety of popular and upcoming writers. Here’s a look at the cover art for Hellraiser: Bestiary #1:
“Why We Love It: Over the past three years, Clive Barker has re-imagined the Hellraiser mythos as only he could, building a long-form narrative that became one of the best-received horror comics in recent memory. Now, the Master of Horror takes us into his Bestiary for an anthology series free of continuity, but full of shocking consequences.
Why You’LL Love It: Hellraiser: Bestiary will pick up where classic horror comics anthologies like Tales From The Crypt, Vault of Horror, and the more recent Flinch left off.

Curse #4 will be released on Wednesday and bring and end to this new werewolf mini-series. If you’d like taste of what’s coming up, we have a set of preview pages from the last issue:
“Laney Griffith is a man who will do anything to save his son from leukemia, but the cost of treatment has broken him financially. When he pursues an elusive murderer in the wilderness of his small, rural community, in the hopes of securing a substantial bounty, Laney is confronted with something he never could have expected: a werewolf. The captive lycan, in human form, turns Laney’s life upside-down, forcing him to confront his haunted past and race against the clock—because the wolf will return, and Laney’s son’s condition continues to worsen. Curse is a story of a family’s survival at all costs.”
Curse #4: “Laney Griffin has shouldered more heartbreak than most.

January saw the release of Curse #1, the first issue in a limited werewolf series from Michael Moreci (Hoax Hunters), Tim Daniel (Enormous), Riley Rossmo (Rebel Blood) and Colin Lorimer (Uxb). Continue reading to learn what writers Michael Moreci & Tim Daniel have to say about their work together on Curse, including their interest in seeing a big screen adaptation of the material. We’ve also been provided with exclusive preview pages from the third issue.

Not many people are aware of this, but Boom! Studios is one of the leading publishers of horror comics. While I’m not normally a fan, the premise of this 4 part mini-series has me quite intrigued. Laney...
