Less than two weeks before “The Woman King” was set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, its director and editor were in a post-production facility in Sherman Oaks still fine tuning the action-packed epic. It was the final days of director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s years-long journey to bring the story of the Agojie, a group of women warriors in 19th century Africa, to the big screen. The pressure was high, but the mood was calm and relaxed. While not always agreeing, the two collaborators were in sync, their process methodical and precise in making what can feel like an endless series of decisions and tweaks. As Shropshire told IndieWire at the time, “We don’t need any drama in the room. We keep that on the screen.”
There was plenty of drama, both onscreen and off, when it came to “The Woman King.” “It was the hardest shoot...

Never underestimate the power of a woman, and that advice goes double when it comes to the powerhouse that is Viola Davis. The Oscar-winning actor is capable of delivering outstanding performances in any genre, and she adds badass action queen to her resume with The Woman King.
TriStar Pictures’ The Woman King features some of the most breathtaking fight sequences to unfold on the big screen in recent memory. And yes, you absolutely must see this in theaters on the largest screen possible. Masterfully choreographed and delivered with fierce, flawless intensity, the action sequences serve to punctuate but not overpower the incredible tale of the Agojie warriors – also known as the Dahomey Amazons – led by General Nanisca (Davis).

Following the recent official reveal of Idris Elba as The Gunslinger, EW has now unveiled a new photo of the person he pursues: Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black, aka Walter.
EW‘s photo shows The Man in Black strolling towards New York City’s Dixie Pig, a place where outsiders of the world—including sorcerers—congregate. Walter, who is also known as Randall Flagg from The Stand, is respected and feared by the crowd, who bow their heads as he passes by.
McConaughey tells EW that Walter is in search of Jake, a boy with the ability to “Shine.” The Man in Black hopes to exploit this power in order to destroy the Tower and bring about a collision of worlds and the rise of his master, the Crimson King. But Walter is squarely in the vengeful sights of The Gunslinger, who has a hateful history with the powerful being.
