On Thursday, Elliot Page brought the European premiere of Close to You to BFI Flare, the London Lgbtqia+ film festival, in a special presentation. On Friday, the star spoke at the British capital’s Southbank Centre about the movie, written and directed by Dominic Savage (I Am…), Hollywood and how it can be “pretty toxic,” his career, his coming out, and why the label “niche” doesn’t apply to the LGBTQ+ community.
“Thirty percent of young people identify as LGBTQ+, so I’m sorry, this is not niche,” Page said to much applause. “That really, really irks me. If you told really specific stories about cis-het people, I’m not calling that plot niche.”
Asked about Hollywood and its challenges, Page said: “Obviously, there are great people in Hollywood. It’s more the model. It’s a system, and it’s pretty toxic. Those were just a lot of my experiences.

Elliot Page heads to the U.K on Thursday to open the BFI Flare, London’s Lgbtqia+ film festival, for the European premiere of “Close to You.”
Written and directed by Dominic Savage (behind the recent acclaimed “I Am…” anthology series that has starred the likes of Kate Winslet and Letitia Wright), the film — which bowed in Toronto — marks Page’s first feature since 2017. It’s a return to the big screen he says “felt amazing,” allowing him to experience the “joy of what it means to get to create and being creative.”
It was also an acting experience unlike anything Page had undertaken before, with much of “Close to You” improvised. Savage claims that the lack of scripted dialogue made the on-screen interactions appear “as natural as possible,” although Page admits it was, at least initially, “terrifying.”

At 48, Killer Mike won three rap Grammys on Sunday and told the audience: “You cannot tell me you get too old. You cannot tell me it’s too late.”
Mike won best rap album for Michael, while his song “Scientists and Engineers” won best rap performance and best rap song. On Twitter, the Recording Academy accidentally announced that Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” won best rap song, though it went to Michael‘s track, which features Andre 3000, Future and Eryn Allen Kane.
“For all the people out there that think you get too old to rap, bullshit. I don’t give a damn if you’re 78 rapping about how many gals you got in the nursing home, make sure we keep hip-hop alive,” he said during the Grammys pre-show held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The official ceremony will air later from the Crypto.

Look, about the sandworms in "Dune." Yes, they're near-indestructible, awe-inspiring creatures that produce the most valuable substance in the universe and are worshipped by the Fremen as a deity called Shai-Hulud. But there's no denying that sandworms also look a little bit ... suggestive.
AMC decided to embrace the aesthetics of the sandworm and take them one step further with a souvenir popcorn bucket for screenings of "Dune: Part Two." Shaped like a sandworm rearing out of the sand, the bucket requires you to, well, shove your fist inside the worm and past its ring of rubbery teeth in order to retrieve the precious spice (aka delicious popcorn). There's something decidedly off-putting about the design, and even the stars of the movie agree. When Jimmy Kimmel offered them a taste of what's inside his "Dune" popcorn bucket, Zendaya quickly replied, "I'm good!" while a disturbed Florence Pugh commented on the design: "That's not okay.

One of the most exciting categories this year at the Grammys is Best Melodic Rap Performance, where there’s one glaring omission: Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World.” The big hit from “Barbie” was relegated to Best Rap Song, showing a lack of enthusiasm from voters (who likely voted for it in the songwriting category due to its high alphabetical placement on the ballot). But the song’s miss ended up making the category way more interesting with a couple of hits now duking it out for the win. With big names in the category such as Drake and Sza, let’s consider who will ultimately be crowned the winner come February 4.
Let’s start with the song that has the least chance of a win: Burna Boy and 21 Savage’s “Sittin’ on Top of the World.” While the track was a big hit for Burna, it...

Out of the album categories at the upcoming Grammys, the race for Best Rap Album is one of the hardest to predict. It’s a lineup where every album has a big advantage and a big question mark looming over it. It might be the only album lineup this year where a case could be made for each of the five nominees. Whether that speaks to the albums being great or to how bad this year was for hip-hop, I’ll let you be the judge.
The presumed frontrunner is Drake and 21 Savage’s “Her Loss,” which earned nominations all across the rap field. The album is arguably the most successful here; it was the number-four album of 2023 according to Billboard. It’s also led by the singles “Rich Flex” and “Spin Bout U,” which are both nominated and both urban radio chart-toppers. All of that could be enough to...

What would you do if things weren’t going exactly the way you’d planned? Would you work harder, or would you do what Bito in Akuma Kun did and make a deal with the devil to get things to go your way? You’d go with option one to avoid all that soul-sacrificing stuff the devils are known for. However, this wasn’t the case with Marcus (Jesse Suntele) and Lloyd (Kiroshan Naidoo) in In Your Dreams. While in the process of saving their dying business, they unleashed something that they shouldn’t even have touched in the first place. They heard from an old friend who said she had the answer to all their problems. Unfortunately, they ended up stirring up a whole new pot of problems.

"We're going to be printing these with the original cuts used to make them, on the original press they were printed on..." This will be one of the geekiest videos you watch all year. But that is what makes it so good. Adam Savage's Tested YouTube channel recently posted this video of Savage visiting a legendary prop shop in Hollywood called Earl Hayes Press. During his visit to the shop, the staff decide to treat Adam to a one-of-a-kind, brand new sci-fi prop "replica" of – the police badge ID card from Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982). Savage is a huge geek for these kind of props, and learns about how it's made. Something so simple and tiny and barely visible in the movie is made with as much care and craft as all of the sets and costumes and everything else. They make a new ID from scratch - using the exact same material,...

The Apple TV+ crime drama “City on Fire,” which wrapped up its 8-episode first season two months ago, will not be getting a second season, TheWrap has confirmed.
Based on the novel of the same name by Garth Risk Hallberg, “City on Fire” wasn’t listed as a limited series. But the story shown in Season 1 covered the entire book, which means viewers won’t be stuck with a never-resolved cliffhanger similar to Hulu’s 2020 “High Fidelity” adaptation.
Set in 2003, the story follows the aftermath of the shooting of a young student in Central Park, New York city. The investigation uncovers ties to a series of fires, the Manhattan music scene, and a secretive and wealthy real estate family.
Created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the show was executive produced by Schwartz and Savage alongside Lis Rowinski and Jesse Peretz.

Exclusive: Apple TV+ has opted not to pick up a second season of crime drama series City on Fire. The news comes a month and a half after Season 1 finished its eight-episode run on the streamer. It is not surprising as the adaptation of the novel of the same name didn’t get a lot of buzz the way other recent Apple TV+ entries like Silo and Hijack have.
While City on Fire was ordered and marketed as a drama series, not a limited series, and there were seeds for a second season planted in the finale, viewers will not be left hanging as Season 1 covered the arc in the book.
In City on Fire, which hailed from executive producers and showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, a suburban teenager, Charlie (Wyatt Oleff), must unravel the mystery of his friend’s (Chase Sui Wonders) murder after she’s shot in...

Parquet Courts frontman A. Savage has returned with “Thanksgiving Prayer,” his first new solo music since 2017. Along with the single, he announced a solo tour for this fall. Listen to the song and check out the full list of upcoming dates below.
“Thanksgiving Prayer” is an intimate and intricate composition. While perhaps a bit somber at first listen, the lyrics elevate the song with a sense of hope and wonder, conveying Savage’s knack for speaking to complicated emotions. The song feels like light in the darkness — it doesn’t shy away from the turmoil of life, but still finds a way to embrace its beauty.
The single arrived with a corresponding music video directed by Tiff Pritchett. “She had this idea to sort of do a silent film tribute,” Savage explained. “The scene from Renoir’s film Rules of the Game where Danse Macabre is played was referenced, as was Klaus Nomi.

Drake certainly made the delayed kick-off of his “It’s All A Blur Tour” (get tickets here) with 21 Savage a memorable one. Besides at one point performing with a visual of sperm cells floating above the stage, he opened their June 5th show at Chicago’s United Center with “Look What You’ve Done,” his first time playing the Take Care cut in over a decade.
The Toronto rapper performed it while seated on a couch next to a kid resembling his younger self. In the 1990s, there was an undeniable boom of incredibly successful sitcoms. The decade was flooded with sitcoms that would ultimately define that era of television. Boy Meets World would be nothing without the boy himself, Ben Savage – but apparently that’s exactly what it has turned into, as his former cast members are claiming that Savage pulled a Mr. Turner and just up and vanished from their lives.
In a new Variety piece, Boy Meets World stars Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence-Matthews) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) – who co-host the rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, which Savage is not a part of – reflected on the estrangement from the former Cory Matthews.
As Fishel put it regarding his beginning to distance himself, “He was very adamant that [the podcast] was not for him…He was also very clear, ‘I don’t want it to stop you. If you guys want to do it, go ahead.’ The time between those conversations and the time we actually started the podcast was a significant amount of time…We were just so,...

Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong made a startling admission while discussing their former “Boy Meets World” co-star, Ben Savage — the group hasn’t spoken to him in three years. They’ve tried, but according to the trio, he “ghosted” them.
The three actors — who played Topanga, Eric and Shawn, respectively, for all seven seasons on the hit ABC sitcom from 1993 to 2000 — are perplexed about the estrangement, given that there’s no logical reason to explain the, for lack of a better word, fallout. They said as much in a lengthy Variety profile, in which they talk about their popular iHeart Radio rewatch podcast, “Pod Meets World”.
It wasn’t always this way. When the cast reunited at fan conventions, Savage — the show’s star as Cory Matthews — was also there front and center. With so much interest still surrounding the Tgif staple, the trio approached Savage about joining them for the rewatch episode.
