- John Darko is a Los Angeles native of Filipino and Italian descent. John is active in the film industry as a screenwriter, producer, and director. John is the founder and partner of Darkleader Pictures; a film and television production company committed to acquiring, developing, and producing genre-related content. John is joined at Darkleader with co-founder and partner Robert Leader.
"Our goal is to uplift and celebrate diverse talent in the genre space. We believe everybody has a voice, and we're committed to giving those with extraordinary and strange stories a platform to stand on. I hope we can help shine a light on more Filipino and Asian talent as well." Darko has commented.
In 2012 Darko made his directorial debut with KillCam: Live (2012) a horror film following a group of students in an experiment to explore the effects of dependence on technology and social media. The producers took a unique approach with its distribution allowing viewers to interact with characters from the film and influence story lines via Facebook, Twitter, and online chat. 'Killcam: Live' has since held the distinction of becoming the first trans-media horror film to release without a major studio deal in place.
Furthermore, in 2009 Darko was the first American filmmaker to produce Qatar's debut into the cinematic world with The Package Vol. 1 (2010). John has continued to work in the Middle East contributing to the region's most ambitious projects to date; an achievement that has since kick-started a wave of creative works that went on to be embraced by the Qatari government.
Darko has also worked as a cinematographer having lent his skills to the Blumhouse hit Insidious (2010) by way of additional photography. John is also in development with 'Annabelle' director John R. Leonetti on a television series titled Nowheresville. The pair are credited as co-creators and co-directors of the show.
John is also known for adapting the SNES game 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' into a live-action film. Darko will be producing alongside Compelling Picture's executive partner Jeff Kalligheri.
