Not just a sequel, and not just one spin-off as announced the other day. Turns out there's as many as three spin-off projects in the works based on this summer's horror hit "The Conjuring" at New Line Cinema.
As previously revealed, one of the spin-offs will focus on the haunted Annabelle doll seen in the opening scenes and key moments in the film. Conjuring's cinematographer John R. Leonetti is attached to direct.
Bloody Disgusting adds that John Darko is slated to co-direct that project, tentatively entitled "The Annabelle Story," which will take place before the events in "The Conjuring".
No details are available on the other two spin-offs aside from them being micro-budget projects. No word on when production of the sequel will take place, but production on 'Annabelle' could begin as early as sometime before the end of the year.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the movie version of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, but it looks like the project is alive and well. Based off of the 1993 game of the same name for Snes and Sega Genesis, Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a humorous top-down zombie survival game. Developed by LucasArts, players take the role of Zeke or Julie, escaping from zombies in suburbia.
It has been rumored that the project has moved into the hands of Lucasfilm and Disney, after being associated with Lucasarts prior to the company’s acquisition. When we reported on the project back in 2011, John Darko had written the screenplay and he’s still on board as the writer/producer. Here’s what we were told by him about the movie’s story:

Released back in 2009, director Neill Blomkamp stunned audiences with his incredible directorial debut District 9. One of the best sci-fi films to come out in years, it was a tremendous effort, especially given its $30 million budget. Now, four years later, Blomkamp is getting ready to deliver his next project, Elysium.
Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Wagner Moura, Alica Braga and Diego Luna, Sony recently showed off 10 minutes of footage at a special promo event and the reactions have been overwhelmingly positive.
Set one hundred years in the future, the film takes place in a world where “Earth has become overcrowded and dirty, all the inhabitants are unkempt. The wealthy reside in beautiful utopia inside an enormous circular 2001-like space station called Elysium orbiting around Earth.” Sounds pretty intriguing and judging by the reactions to the recently screened footage, it looks like we’re in for something special.

Late last year we checked in on an online horror performance in which the characters were interacting live with the audience. Killcam Live was an extremely unique concept, a live horror event playing out before us.
Then, what started as a small project suddenly exploded into an online movement which tallied over 3 million views.
"It was really great to have all those people come in and get excited," said one of the featured performers in Killcam Live, Sam Weller. "It was a boon."
As it turned out, Killcam Live was a six-week live performance that allowed fans to interact directly with the performers via webcam. The actors would rotate into a kill room, spending as much as 72 hours, and sometimes more, in the room, directly connected to the fans. The actors would react to the input from the fans to create the story on the fly.

Killcam: Live is a project currently operating on two fronts. On one hand, it's a film now shooting in the Los Angeles area. On the other hand, it is a bizarre interactive endeavor that is allowing horror fans to communicate with the film's characters and, apparently, influence the story's direction. Spearheaded by director John Darko - a producer on the short film Archetype - Killcam: Live stars Ben Begley, April Wade, Steven Martini, Sam Weller, Tracy Clifton and Derrick Oliver. According to Variety, the story "follows a group of students as they willingly agree to participate in a social experiment to explore the effects of dependence on technology and social media - with students isolated from each other and the only way to communicate via social media....

Live interactive horror project Killcam: Live has added over 1.1 million viewers to its rapidly growing "Killmunity." The project, directed by John Darko, debuted on October 31st and runs through the end of the year. Killcam: Live stars April Wade, Ben Begley, Tracy Clifton, Derrick Oliver, Sam Weller, Emily Dykes, Diahnna Nicole Baxter, Billy Towers, Mirai Booth-Ong, and Rolence Patugan. Audiences have already witnessed the (fictional) brutal killings of three of the story's main characters and one surprise death. Okay now, this is a good idea. All of us have sat in front of a movie and just hung our heads at the direction it took. Either some of the characters were too dopey or the story dragged, but we've all wished for an opportunity to grab a movie halfway through viewing it and change the outcome. Well, gorehounds, Killcam Live is going to give you that chance this Halloween.
Starting on October 31st viewers can go to KillcamLive.com and see the first video clips when they are uploaded. From there the audience will be able to interact with the characters from the film via Facebook and Twitter (@Killcam_Live). And according to filmmakers, the feedback from the audience will affect how the film plays out. Killcam Live will be released online in segments over the course of eight weeks.

You can't escape them. They're hungry for vitality and brains. Slow, but unstoppable, they won't stop until every last ounce of life has be sucked from this earth. They are... video game movie adaptations. "Zombies Ate My Neighbor," a 1990s Super Nintendo game that has no story and whose existence is known only by a select group of ubernerds, has been plucked from its grave of obscurity to live again on the silver screen. Egads!
According to Firstshowing.net, this adaptation is of the loose variety. High school best friends Zeke and Julie come-of-age when their neighbors are bitten by and turn into zombies. Cue title card.
Talk about a project that could only be cooked up in a mad scientist's lab. Half-video game movie, half-zombie flick, it's a hybrid from hell.
John Darko is responsible for the script and is also producing the film. The next step will be securing the game's rights.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors adaptation is in early development. Sounds familiar?
Well, of course, I’m sure you all remember this Super Nintendo game that was released back in 1993. And, just in case you’re wondering who will be responsible for this adaptation, we’re here to clear things out for you!
Filmmaker John Darko wants to get financing for the script he wrote based on the game. Apparently the film will be made independently, and, according to the latest reports from FirstShowing, the whole thing is described as “John Hughes meets Judd Apatow meets George A. Romero” or “a bit like Superbad + Zombieland + Home Alone.”
Confused so far?
Well, don’t look at me, I’m actually Mortal Kombat fan! But, let’s see what Wikipedia has to say about this game:

If someone is planning to adapt the 16-bit console game “Zombies Ate My Neighbors” for the proverbial silver screen, then they’d better come correct. Out of all the video games I consumed during my childhood, Zamn is one of my all-time favorites. The title almost seems as if it were tailor-made for a cinematic adaptation, though given the history of such projects, one shouldn’t too many lofty expectations into the production. That having been said, I’m still pretty intrigued by the idea, and I’m curious to see what comes of the film once it gets off the ground. Assuming, of course, that it ever will. First Showing is reporting that screenwriter John Darko already has a script ready to go, and is currently looking for people to help finance his feature. And while the picture borrows elements from the video game, apparently the movie itself will...

The popular Nes game from the 90’s has been written to script and is looking to take over the silver screen. The highly crontroversial zombie game will hit the screens and will go in the direction of a horror comedy. Similar to Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead, this film will have as much laughs as it does gore while also being faithful to the video game.
Following the tale of two high school friends named Zeke and Julie who find themselves overrun by zombies in their neighborhood, Zombies Ate My Neighbors looks to go beyond the game platform. Now, since there was no true plot to the video game, this allows the writers to come up with original content that could either hurt or do well for the film. The script has been written and the film will be independently produced by John Darko. They are still looking for directors,...

When I was growing up in the 1990′s, I was addicted to Nintendo Power and the one of the games that stuck out in my head was Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Released in 1993, it was a run and gun game featuring two teenagers using squirt guns and other such wacky weaponry against the legions of the undead that had taken over their town (amongst other monsters like vampires and werewolves). When I finally got my hands on it for the Super Nintendo I ended up sucking so bad that I never picked it up again, but I still have fond memories of the game regardless.
Don’t worry, that slightly unnecessary story has a point; it turns out someone’s attempting to make it into a movie. First Showing reports that John Darko has written a script for the movie and is attempting to find financial backing to get it...

At this point it's been pretty well established that anything even remotely zombie-related will sell to hordes of fans, and with the recent success of The Walking Dead on AMC, it doesn't seem like the undead are going away anytime soon. So to say that we've caught wind of yet another new zombie flick in development isn't particularly surprising, in and of itself. What is pretty surprising, however, is the source material that this particular project will be drawing from. Anyone who owned a Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis in the early '90s might be familiar with a little game called Zombies Ate My Neighbors. If all goes according to plan, it looks like this cult classic video game might be getting a big screen adaptation some 18 years after its release! Zombies Ate My Neighbors was developed by Lucasarts and revolved around two teenagers named Zeke and Julie who...

There was a time when if you loved zombies, you had to break out the old VHS tapes and “strain through the grain” while that beloved layer of analog “hiss” intertwined with a raspy groan for “Brains!”. Fortunately, I guess, zombies have become nauseatingly main stream and Hollywood has been scrambling for anything “living dead” like a sparkly vampire up a tree…wait, why do I get that reference?...

John Darko has “fleshed” out a screenplay and is in search for financiers as we speak. As far as the story goes, little has been released.

The 1993 run and gun video game Zombies Ate My Neighbours is being adapted into a feature length film. The video game was originally developed, distributed, and produced by LucasArts as a comical tribute to both classic and horror films of the 1950s through the 1980s. Now, a screenplay has been written, and has been described as “John Hughes meets Judd Apatow meets George A. Drop your HD gaming consoles, and take a trip back to 16-bit Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis land with Zombies Ate My Neighbors, a cult game that came out in 1993 before the Esrb rating system we have now. First Showing is reporting that the game will be a film now from screenwriter John Darko (known really for his cinematography on James Wan’s Insidious).
The film will be independently produced then will look for a studio for distribution. From Wiki: “The game follows the protagonists Zeke and Julie as they battle monsters with an assortment of peculiar weapons. They must fight through over fifty-five top-down levels and rescue civilians in each world. By saving the people from the monsters, the player can advance to the next level.” The game was a spin on the ’50s horror films, but the film will take these elements and place them into a coming-of-age high school tale.

The horror-comedy based upon the cult favorite 90s Snes and Sega Genesis game has a script by John Darko and is currently looking for financing from a major studio. In the interactive horror parody, players took control of either Zeke or Julie (or both with two players) in classic Gauntlet style top-down gameplay. The two protagonists carried an arsenal including weed eaters, water guns, popsicles, and the Arc of the Covenant, which were put to good use against ax wielding dolls, mad scientist, giant babies, and all other horror staples (not precluding the requisite zombies). The duo must save their innocent neighbors lest they be killed by the endless waves of monstrosities or turn into one themselves. All of the frantic action took place in over 55 levels ranging from malls to...

Nobody likes a serious zombie movie - right? Hmm, someone has read our 6 Horror Games We Want to See on the Big Screen breakdown. This sounds like it's a bit too early to report on - as the rights for the property are not even fully secured and the financing hasn't been locked in place - but filmmaker John Darko is trying to get an adaptation of the video game Zombies Ate My Neighbors! off of the ground. The title was made popular on the Sega Genesis and Super Nes systems. The thrust of the game is you run around killing, at first, zombies in suburbia until you move on, level to level, acquiring sundry weapons and taking on familiar horror monsters.
