Guy Ritchie has earned positive reviews and pleased moviegoers with films such as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Sherlock Holmes. He has proved that he can apply his distinctive style and voice to a variety of genres, crafting strong narratives and compelling characters.
Why then are audiences not racing to see Richie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which is officially summer movie season's first bomb?
Consider recent movie history. The above praise of Ritchie could also be said of Mark Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Josh Trank (2015's Fantastic Four) and David Ayer (Suicide Squad). It was each of their strong storytelling...

Neither of The Amazing Spider-Man movies are looked back at with fondness. While the original trilogy was so Sam Raimi, visually and otherwise, and is remembered mostly as a classic at this point (mostly...), and Tom Holland's appearance in Captain America: Civil War was welcomed with open arms as we await Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Amazing Spider-Man films will go down as a forgettable misadventure and a cautionary tale of how not to build a movie universe.
The first Amazing Spider-Man was decent, but suffered from being very repetitive with its drawn out origin and villains far less interesting than Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin or Alfred Molina as Doc Ock from the original trilogy. The second film was a Spider-Man 3 level disaster, leaving us with cliffhangers that will likely never be explored. The movie was not 100% rotten however; it had some very great moments, but as a whole it felt over-stuffed,...

Amy Adams and Steve Carrell also in negotiations.
After a string of blockbuster comedies starring Will Ferrell — Anchorman, The Other Guys, Step Brothers — writer-director Adam McKay side-stepped a little a couple years back with The Big Short, an ensemble flick about the real-life housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s. The film earned the best reviews of McKay’s well-reviewed career, and wound up with five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, and one win for McKay’s screenplay (with Charles Randolph).
It shouldn’t be surprising then that for his big screen follow-up, McKay would return to the ripped-from-the-headlines genre, this time tackling a biopic of one of the most shadowy and misunderstood figures of this century to-date: Former Vice President Dick Cheney. And the cast he’s building? Start polishing the Oscars.
According to Variety’s sources Bale is on board to play Cheney, while Amy Adams is in talks to play his...

As character details start to leak out for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a clearer picture of where the story is likely headed has begun to form. A recent leak that adds a major villain to the story (if true) is the news about Colm Feore playing Adrian Toomes. Today, a sly interviewer may have confirmed another villain when talking to Felicity Jones.
Well perhaps sly isn’t the best word to describe the interviewer, she just came out and asked the question, but she may have successfully gotten confirmation of sorts from Jones, which is something many have wanted. I’ve included the video of the interview below, but basically the interviewer asks if Jones is excited for everyone to finally see her as Black Cat. That catches Jones off guard for a minute, and she struggles to find something to say before opting for a lot of non-committal words,...

It was a busy week of reviews as we disagree on Ted and People Like Us, agree on Magic Mike and I give my thoughts on To Rome with Love, which Laremy didn't see. Of course, on top of that we get to several of your questions, over/unders, buy or sells, a new Good Comments segment, more Good Tweets and just all around randomness. This episode runs just over 86 minutes and will hopefully keep you satisfied until our July 3 episode where we'll dig into The Amazing Spider-Man. As always, I have broken down this episode on a minute-by-minute basis if you would like to skip ahead and below I have featured the information on how to download the podcast, find us on iTunes or merely just listen in your browser. 00:00-5:15 - Introduction and the ease of podcasting vs. writing 5:16-8:48 - [Listener Question] In the wake of Nora Ephron's death,...

The schedule is saying this is only the second day of San Diego Comic-Con, but we don't see how that's possible. After a manic run of interviews and panels and exclusives on Thursday -- everything from "Beavis & Butt-Head" to "Breaking Dawn" chats, "Game of Thrones" presentations, "The Walking Dead" sneak-peeks and beyond -- our time at Sdcc has gifted us with enough pop culture geekery to call it quits and head home.
Except today is Friday -- day #2 -- and there's no chance we're skipping out early with a day like today ahead of us. So pardon us while we guzzle some coffee and then ponder the day ahead.
In just a little while, we'll be sitting down with Tom Hardy to talk about "Warrior," and you just know the chat will dive deeply into his upcoming role as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises." A few hours later, we'll...

British actor appears as brooding figure in photographic peek at prequel that deals with Spider-Man Peter Parker's teenage years
It is said to be a "gritty, contemporary reboot" of the Spider-Man series in the vein of Christopher Nolan's 2005 reimagining of the caped crusader, Batman Begins. That view would appear to have been confirmed today after the first photograph of actor Andrew Garfield dressed as the superhero was published.
The shot depicts Garfield, who was born in Los Angeles but moved to the UK with his family aged three, as a lean, bloody and brooding figure. Scratchmarks adorn his cheek and a strap sits on his shoulder, suggesting the webslinger may be heading straight from a night fighting crime on the street to high-school lessons.
The new film – which is being directed by 500 Days of Summer's Mark Webb – returns Peter Parker, Spider-Man's alter ego, to his teenage years and will...
