Talk about a power couple. Husband and wife duo Emily Blunt and John Krasinski will team up onscreen for the first time in the feature film, “A Quiet Place.” But the collaboration is not just one in front of the camera. In addition to starring, Krasinski will also write and direct the horror-suspense film. Though “The Office” alum has directed two films previously, “A Quiet Place,” from Paramount/Platinum Dunes, will mark his first directorial gig with a major studio. Details about the project’s plot are scant so far, however, we do know production is slated to begin this September in upstate New York. We also know that Blunt and Krasinski will play parents, while “Suburbicon” actor Noah Jupe has signed on for the role of their son. Laura Rosenthal and Maribeth Fox are splitting duties as casting directors. Krasinski will executive produce along with Allyson Seeger and Scott Beck & Bryan Woods.

At a recent casting panel during Atlanta’s fourth annual aTVfest at Savannah College of Art and Design (Scad), some of the top casting directors from Georgia, New York City, and Los Angeles doled out the advice for attendees—and working actors everywhere. Here are five of the most important takeaways from their valuable advice. Nail your self-taped audition:nyc casting director Maribeth Fox of Laura Rosenthal Casting had plenty to say about actors’ self-taped auditions. She recommended setting up your shot with a background by savagepaper.com (gray is industry standard), a Canon R500 camera on HQ setting—which creates video suitable for the web—and a lightbox. Also, don’t slate shooting until the last minute; casting director Sheila Jaffe (“The Fighter”) insisted, “Just get to it!” All of the casting directors echoed the importance of a natural reader—someone not in character. And above all else...know how to hold your phone.

The Casting Society of America has announced the nominees of its 31st annual Artios Awards. J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is among the nominees in its Big Budget Drama category. And why not? The film cast the fantastic unknowns Daisy Ridley and John Boyega along with franchise veterans Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill. All to stellar effect mind you!
According to its site, "Artios" from the ancient Greek, meaning "perfectly fitted." So how fitting! Here's more info on the Artios Awards:
In October of 1985 the Casting Society of America presented the first-ever Artios Awards for Excellence in Casting at an awards luncheon. Held in the Crystal Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel, the event was attended by more than 500 industry leaders and seven Csa members were honored for their work in four different casting categories. Eat your heart out Julianne Moore. Less than 24 hours after actor John Magaro was mentioned as a supporting player add-on, we now learn (via THR) that sketch comedy queen in Portlandia’s writer/star Carrie Brownstein will trade in hipster chic for 50′s garb making her feature film debut alongside thesps Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett and Sarah Paulson in Todd Haynes’ Carol. Brownstein will play Genevieve Cantrell, a woman who has an encounter with Therese (Mara). Several onlookers will be curious in seeing how the actress moves from banal characterizations to certified Haynes-dramatic material.
Gist: Based on Patricia Highsmith’s “The Price of Salt”, this chronicles the burgeoning and tempestuous relationship between two very different women in 1950s NYC. Mara will play a 20-something clerk working in a department store and dreaming of a better life who falls for an older, married woman (Blanchett) who is essentially a trapped wife...
