Most people likely wouldn’t brush off Matt Damon if they got the chance to meet him, but Dylan and Cole Sprouse can’t say the same.
The Riverdale alum recalled on Tuesday’s episode of SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa that the twin brothers had such an obsession with the World of Warcraft video game when they were younger that they didn’t want anyone interrupting them, not even an Oscar winner.
Cole explained how they were playing the video game during set school one day when one of the production assistants notified them that Damon and his children were huge fans of their Disney Channel show The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and wanted to stop by.
“I remember Dylan and I turning to each other and just going, ‘Ugh. I can’t believe we have to get off a World of Warcraft right now,...

Bunk’d, which is currently the Disney Channel’s longest running sitcom, is to conclude after the seventh series.
From early 2000s classics like Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire to The Suite Life franchise, That’s So Raven and the hugely succesful Hannah Montana (which was spun off into feature film Hannah Montana: The Movie in 2009), Disney’s formula of well cast, high concept sitcoms has put it at the top of the tween sitcom tree for several decades.
One of its more recent successes was Jessie, which provided a star vehicle for Debby Ryan after several years in The Suite Life On Deck.
The show saw Ryan play the titular character, who acted as a nanny for three kids – Zuri, Ravi, Luke and Emma, played by Skai Jackson, Karen Brar, Cameron Boyce and Peyton List, respectively. Jessie grew into one of Dusney’s most popular shows and eventually ran from 2011 to 2015.

Debby Ryan and Josh Dun have been going strong for nearly a decade now. The "Shortcomings" star, 30, and the Twenty One Pilots drummer, 35, first got together in 2013 and dated off and on for about five years before taking the next step in their relationship. In December 2018, the pair officially got engaged when Dun popped the question in New Zealand. Then, after much speculation from fans, the couple revealed to Vogue that they secretly tied the knot on New Year's Eve in 2019.
Since then, the couple have stayed fairly low-key, though they occasionally show off their romance on social media. For Valentine's Day this year, Ryan shared a sweet photo series of the couple on Instagram simply captioned, "❤️...

Normally at the top of these Don’t-Miss Indies round-ups, we like to make a little joke that’s somewhat topical. But if you’ve been paying attention to what’s been going on in Hollywood for the past couple of months, you’ll know that the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are no laughing matter (unless we’re talking about the writers’ signs.) In fact, right at press time not one but two of this months featured titles have been pushed, due to strike-related issues.

We all have that one friend. Or relative, or coworker, or ex. Some people, no matter how much you love them, can be exhausting — their own stubborn immaturity hindering the way they live life and build relationships.
In Randall Park’s “Shortcomings,” Justin H. Min plays Ben, a character with a laundry list of exactly what the film’s name invokes and exactly zero awareness of about it. He’s apathetic and irascible with his long-term girlfriend Miko (Ally Maki), self-absorbed with best friend Alice (Sherry Cola), and utterly complacent in his job as manager of a local movie theater, which is hanging on by a thread.

Randall Park’s Shortcomings opens with a fake-out: A Chinese-American woman in an evening gown gets insulted by a casually racist white hotel clerk. She turns on her heels, walks over to her dapper-looking husband, exchanges a few words, and walks back to the front desk. They’ve just bought the hotel, so the clerk can leave his post and go take out the trash, thank you very much. Then the couple kisses, fireworks go off, and the credits roll.

"While the cat's away, the mouse will play." Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled the official trailer for an excellent indie comedy called Shortcomings, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. I saw this at the fest and really enjoyed it, it's a fresh and surprisingly honest romantic comedy about the experiences of Asian Americans - told from an entirely different perspective. The story follows a trio of young Bay Area urbanites – Ben Tanaka, Miko Hayashi, and Alice Kim – as they navigate a range of interpersonal relationships, traversing the country seeking the ideal connection. Shortcomings is directed by comedian / actor Randall Park, making his feature directorial debut. It's based on the graphic novel of the same name by Adrian Tomine. The film stars Justin H. If you love the edgy, raw, and unfiltered "Euphoria," buckle up for another thrilling ride with HBO's newest series "The Idol." The masterminds behind the series are none other than "Euphoria" director, writer, and producer Sam Levinson, as well as Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage name, The Weeknd. In addition to creating and coproducing the series, the "Out of Time" singer will also share the screen with a handful of talented actors, including Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, and Debby Ryan.
"The Idol" focuses on several heavy themes, ranging from drug use and excessive partying to Hollywood cults, which has many wondering if the realistic and intense storyline draws any influence from reality. While the series is not based on a singular true story, it's hard to imagine this show wasn't inspired by the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry.

HBO's "The Idol" is officially heading to the 2023 Cannes Film Festival next month. The network finally confirmed the mysterious cult drama's festival debut on April 13 after IndieWire first reported it on March 16. The series, which comes from "Euphoria"'s Sam Levinson and The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye), was tapped as an out-of-competition selection. It will screen two to three episodes at the event, before, according to IndieWire, premiering on HBO this fall.
The Cannes premiere news comes just weeks after Rolling Stone published an investigation on March 1 into "The Idol"'s behind-the-scenes drama, in which crew members claimed that the show moved in a disturbing new direction thanks to Levinson.
As a result of the tumultuous path "The Idol" has taken to the small screen, it still doesn't have an official release date. Though HBO gave a glimpse at the series - which stars Lily-Rose Depp, Dan Levy, and...

Book Lovers tells the story of Nora, a cutthroat literary agent who, convinced by her sister to spend one August holiday in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, keeps running into Charlie, a bookish, brooding editor from back in the city. Without Justin Hong-Kee Min, Shortcomings would be sour to watch. His character, Ben, floats through Randall Park’s directorial debut with a mountain of unlikability. Throughout the audience has watched Ben be awful to his girlfriend, his best friend, his best friend’s new girlfriend, a new date, a woman he dates for three weeks, and so on and so forth. He isn’t amicable in any way, opting instead for self-serving, sarcastic remarks that place him above the person, place, or thing he’s discussing. Somehow, though, Shortcomings is enjoyable, at times even delightful.
Min balances his nastiness with just enough charisma and charm to save his character and save the film. Ben––and all the credit to Min for this––cannot be faulted for his relatability, though most viewers will assume and hope they’re better people than him. Min imbues this asshole with such specificity that Ben...

The 2023 Sundance Film Festival ruled the scene this week, as A-list stars and aspiring newcomers all trekked to the mountains of Utah to stake their claim to being a part of independent cinema’s biggest showcase. That left Hollywood a bit on the quiet side, but two of the world’s biggest names (Harrison and Oprah) introduced their new TV shows with big bashes in Tinseltown.

A day after Sundance juror Marlee Matlin walked out of the premiere of “Magazine Dreams” in protest, along with the rest of the festival jury, the Oscar winner talked in-depth about the importance of open captions on film. Speaking at the Variety and Stacy’s Pita Chip Rise brunch, an event celebrating female creators on Jan. 21, Matlin passionately advocated for better inclusive storytelling.
When asked about her work on the 2022 best picture winner “Coda” (which swept the 2021 Sundance fest as well), Matlin stressed the lengths her film took to embrace all fans of cinema. “The film was open caption, the entire film, so you couldn’t just turn it off and on,” Matlin told Variety Senior Entertainment Writer Angelique Jackson. “For me, it made me feel very included, because I could sit and watch the film with everyone reacting the same way, the same time, feeling the same emotions. Perhaps humbly anticipating a slightly less prestigious premiere than in competition at Sundance, Randall Park’s “Shortcomings” opens with an amusingly broad parody of “Crazy Rich Asians” (starring original cast member Ronnie Chieng alongside Stephanie Hsu) playing at a Berkeley-based Asian American film festival. As the credits roll, the audience hoot and holler their approval — all except for struggling Japanese American filmmaker Ben (Justin H. Min), who wears the pained expression of a man passing a kidney stone. In the lobby with his girlfriend, Miko (Ally Maki), who works for the festival, Ben is asked what he thinks by the ebullient director of the film. Struggling for a diplomacy that we soon learn does not come naturally, Ben leads with “It’s … quite the event.”
“Shortcomings,” in its way, is also quite the event. A fresh-faced, funny directorial debut from the ever-engaging Park, who starred in “Fresh off the Boat” and “Always Be My Maybe,...

There’s a rather clever wink-wink opening to actor Randall Park’s debut feature as a director, Shortcomings, which, when all is said and done, mostly fails to deliver on its promise.
A young couple, the aspiring filmmaker, Ben (Justin H. Min), and his girlfriend, Miko (Ally Maki), are watching what’s clearly a spoof of Crazy Rich Asians at a Bay Area film festival. Ben loathes it for being a “garish mainstream rom-com that glorifies a capitalistic fantasy,” while Miko think it’s a “game changer” that will allow aspiring Asian-American directors to make something “cooler, more artsy or whatever.”
Shortcomings is, alas, not that cool and artsy movie — nor is it the glossy popcorn bling-a-thon that turned Asians into a worldwide smash. It’s more like the kind of standard Sundance-bound dramedy we’ve seen lots of times before, albeit with a charming cast and some sharp bits of commentary on race,...

Mindy Kaling's latest venture is coming to screens very soon. Centered on Velma Dinkley of the iconic Scooby-Doo Mystery Gang, "Velma" is set to premiere on Jan. 12. Executive produced by the showrunner, who also voices the lead role, the HBO Max spinoff additionally features voice work from stars like Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, and Constance Wu. On Jan. 11, the streamer released an official trailer for the animated series, in which Velma is framed for murder and enlists help from former friends Daphne, Fred, and Shaggy to help solve the mystery. "This is my story, told my way," she says in the clip.
While the show's premise is similar to the original "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" series that originally aired over 50 years ago, "Velma" will hone in on the primary crime-fighter and detective - this time, with R-rated gore and adult innuendos. We can also expect cameos from other members of the original Mystery Gang,...

Jinkies! A new trailer for Mindy Kaling‘s Velma is scaring up excitement for the series before it starts haunting HBO Max on January 12. Kaling’s Velma trailer previews subtle changes to the Scooby Gang, including replacing the pasty, food-loving Shaggy with Norville, Velma’s Black friend who dislikes drugs and harbors a not-so-secret crush on the show’s star character. The 10-episode series explores forward-thinking themes, new supernatural threats, a murder mystery, and Velma’s blossoming sexuality. That’s right, Velma’s attraction to women is canon now. Let’s go!
According to HBO Max, Velma will “[tell] the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang,” and the show is “an original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.”

Jinkies! Velma is going solo in early 2023.
HBO Max has set a Jan. 12, 2023, release date for Mindy Kaling’s animated series “Velma,” a spinoff of the beloved, but family-friendly, “Scooby-Doo” series.
In this modern, adult-oriented take on the classic “Scooby-Doo” franchise, the series follows the origin story of Velma Dinkley (Kaling), the brainiac of the Mystery Inc. gang. After a corpse is found in her high school, Velma teams up with Daphne (Constance Wu), Shaggy (Sam Richardson) and Fred (Glenn Howerton) to solve the murder.
The official logline reads, “This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.”
Back in October, Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy revealed at New York Comic Con that Scooby-Doo himself will not make an appearance in the series. Kaling’s series also reimagines several members of the Mystery Inc. gang, including making Velma of South Asian descent.
