From Raiders Of The Lost Ark through to Always - we take a look through the work of Steven Spielberg in the 1980s...
When we look back on Steven Spielberg's career, we'll likely think of his 1980s output as his defining era. Spielberg ruled the 80s, releasing 22 movies as a producer and a further seven as director (eight if you include Kick The Can in the ill-fated Twilight Zone: The Movie). It remains his most active period (though if all goes to plan, he'll surpass it when 2019's Indiana Jones 5 marks his eighth film of this decade). Put simply, Spielberg is the 80s, and recent criticisms that he's lost his magic, exacerbated after the box office struggles of The Bfg, really represent a frustration that he's no longer the film-maker we fell in love with when we were growing up.
See related The Big Bang Theory...

Kelsea Ballerini‘s The First Time tour is so hot it’s setting off fire alarms.
The 23-year-old country star just finished a sold out weekend of shows on her first-ever headlining tour, hitting venues in Boston, New York City and Buffalo — all documented in an exclusive, behind-the-scenes roundup video.
Singing from the stage at Irving Plaza last Friday, Ballerini was briefly muted by blaring alarms — but took them in stride and kept the audience pumped up.

While his name may evoke a pang of disappointment in the gaming community right now following the unfortunate cancellation of Konami’s Silent Hills, Guillermo del Toro remains a fan favorite among filmic circles, and upon accepting the Irving M. Levin Directing Award during the International Film Festival in San Francisco, the illustrious filmmaker talked to fans about his career, the conclusion to Pan’s Labyrinth and how he managed to secure an R-rating for the upcoming Crimson Peak.
Firstly, on the topic of Pan’s Labyrinth, the director took questions from the audience, with one eager fan asking whether he intended the ending to the cult Spanish horror to be viewed as pessimistic or optimistic. In response, del Toro stated that “I think it says more about you than it does about me, how you asked the question.”
For the uninitiated, the film ended with Ofelia saving her brother...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Grimm, Arrow/The Flash and Peter Pan Live!
1 | Was Grimm‘s Nick/Juliette-as-Adalind sex scene just a scooch more pervy than you expected it to be? (And did you love the moment even more because of it?)
2 | How, how, how did Jessie not foresee her movie-star gal pal Shayelee (inadvertently) stealing her TV guest star gig? Also, why play your “Liv and Maddie crossover” card if neither Liv nor Maddie will appear?

2013 was an unusually rich year for movies. I felt strongly about both my top ten choices of the year and the runners-up, and I still left off a ton of movies that I enjoyed completely and that I'd recommend to audiences. One of the things that is hardest for me to get my head around when contemplating the Oscars is the idea of picking one thing to represent the year in each of these categories. Still, if I were told today that I had an Oscar ballot and I was asked to vote, the only way I could do it would be operating from pure gut feeling. I wouldn't worry about trying to predict anyone else's response. This was an annual exercise for Siskel and Ebert for years, and they always seemed to use the opportunity to champion what they felt were the underdogs of the nominations. We'll run down every category here.

Other notable trophies went home to Cate Blanchett for Best Actress for her role in "Blue Jasmine," and Matthew McConaughey for Best Actor for his work in "Dallas Buyers Club."

The award season is now in full swing. This morning, SAG-aftra announced the nominees for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Nominations and wins at these awards often add to one’s Oscar hopes, so it’s always interesting to see which projects are getting the most attention.
One neat personal note here is that, since I’ve been a card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild for 7 years, I get to cast my votes on all of these. Looking forward to that.
And the nominees are…

Jennifer Lawrence has clearly become a marketing tool following her Oscar win, her upcoming appearance in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and X-Men: Days of Future Past and it doesn't hurt she's equally talented and attractive. The recent extended television spot for David O. Russell's American Hustle placed her front and center and now the first official clip from the film features her as Rosalyn, wife to Christian Bale's conman persona Irving Rosenfeld who, along with Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams), is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie Dimaso (Bradley Cooper). In addition to this new clip, a new 60-second trailer for the film described as "Everybody Hustles To Survive" has premiered. So watch Lawrence blow up a microwave in the clip below followed by the new trailer.

The 2013 summer movie season is over, so we focus now on our favorite time for movies, the fall and holiday season! The City of Films has put together a guide of all the films being released for the rest of the year, the precursor to the Oscars some might say, or “how many movies is Robert De Niro in right now?”. Join the dialogue on Facebook and Twitter.
Note: Dates are subject to change – CoF will keep it updated. Contact us for additions/changes.
September & October – November – December
Prisoners – September 20
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Stars: Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal
Synopsis: When Keller Dover’s daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts. But just how far will this desperate father go to protect his family?
Analysis: I like a good revenge movie (see Ransom), so this looks promising to me.

The final four months of the year are upon us and it would seem the studios have decided to save the absolute best for last. Boiling down the final four months of the year to a list of ten films I'm most anticipating was no easy chore, though it was made slightly easier as I've already seen All is Lost, Inside Llewyn Davis and Nebraska at the Cannes Film Festival, three films that would have certainly been jockeying for position among these ten. Among my top ten there isn't really a single blockbuster though I am interested in seeing a few. I'm curious to see how Peter Jackson will approach The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug after the tedious slog that was the first film. Will The Hunger Games: Catching Fire prove more memorable than the first, which I was overly kind to in my review, but haven't thought of...
