Since last giving Steve Coogan a worthy lead comedic performance in Hamlet 2, we’ve been waiting to learn when we’ll see director Andrew Fleming‘s next feature. He’s just wrapping up production on the indie dramedy Barefoot, with Evan Rachel Wood, Scott Speedman, J.K. Simmons and Treat Williams. Now Variety has news on his follow-up.
They report the helmer has signed on to another comedy, one from Millennium Films. Titled Guys Night and written by Chris Baldi, the film follows ”four guys stuck in dead-end jobs and not-much-better relationships who hear about a mystery island off the coast of New Jersey where anything goes. One night, they set off in search of adventure — but everything that can go wrong does.”
The idea of a Lost-esque island right near New Jersey is a concept which seems prime for comedy. I also can’t help but relate The Hangover...

Writer-director Andrew Fleming has had a curious career wherein he's helmed such campy comedies as Dick and Hamlet 2, but also the '90s teen-witch drama The Craft and the cutesy, family-friendly crime-caper Nancy Drew. Simply put, it's hard to anticipate where Fleming's next project may take him. He's just wrapped on the romance dramedy Barefoot, in which Evan Rachel Wood plays a psychiatric patient who falls for her doctor, and now Variety reports Fleming has inked a deal with Millennium Films to helm their upcoming comedy Guys Night. Chris Baldi's spec script for Guys Night was purchased by Millennium last fall. The feature focuses on four guys with jobs that are going nowhere and romantic relationships that are less than enviable. So when they hear about a mystifying island off the New Jersey coastline where anything goes, it seems like the perfect guys night out getaway. Of course,...

With the insane success of the Hangover movies, it's no surprise that everybody's trying to find the next solid "guys get into trouble and we laugh at them" script. Especially with the surge of R-rated comedies continuing to do solid box-office numbers. (Even last summer's The Change-Up, which was pretty badly savaged on the reviews front, managed to make its budget back and then some.) Now there's a new entrant into the field. The Wrap reports that Millennium Films has grabbed the rights to Chris Baldi's comedy script Guys Night. The premise is the standard twenty-/thirty-something guy angst: four guys stuck at crappy jobs, involved in crappy relationships, living crappy lives. They decide to seize upon the time-honored coping mechanism of the American male who has begun to feel life constricting around him: they run away. Well, to be more accurate they plan a guys' trip together. They...
