Given how outlandish and enormous the "Fast & Furious" film series would eventually become, it's a little mind-boggling to remember that Rob Cohen's 2001 original, "The Fast and the Furious," was little more than a mid-budget "Point Break" knockoff. The story goes that star Paul Walker, having enjoyed working with Cohen on the 2000 college thriller "The Skulls" was asked what his dream action project would be. Walker said that he wanted to appear in an action movie mashup of "Days of Thunder" and "Donnie Brasco." That is: something with fast cars, but also a cop who goes undercover to infiltrate the criminal underground. The subsequent screenplay, written by Gary Scott Thompson, drew inspiration from a 1998 article in Vibe Magazine all about the New York underground racing scene. David Ayer was brought in to work on a draft, and he changed the setting to Los Angeles and made the cast more diverse.

First-time British director Molly Manning Walker’s remarkable drama about a group of post-gcse girls hellbent on partying in Crete features a career-making performance from new talent Mia McKenna-Bruce
Here’s a cause for celebration for fans of British cinema: a feature debut that launches not one but two of the most promising talents to arrive in movie theatres for a long while. Writer and director Molly Manning Walker is the complete package: a storyteller with an acute ear for youth vernacular; a film-maker with a gift for capturing images that sear themselves into your eyes, while also filling each frame with a sensory overload of energy and movement; and a director who can tease remarkably intimate and revealing moments from actors while simultaneously marshalling a club full of several hundred hard-partying extras. And the film’s star, Mia McKenna-Bruce, is a revelation. You have to go back to Florence Pugh...

Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher movie Thanksgiving is set to reach theatres on November 17th (that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year), and with just over two weeks to go until we reach that date, the movie has just earned its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. And it’s exactly the rating we’ve been hoping to see for this one. Thanksgiving has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody horror violence and gore, pervasive language and some sexual material. It is a bit surprising not to see nudity specified on that list, but the rest of the reasons were expected.
Thanksgiving is a feature expansion of the faux trailer (which did feature nudity) Roth made for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse sixteen years ago. Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he made the faux trailer,...

Based on his fake trailer from the Grindhouse Double Feature (2007), Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving is coming to theaters on November 17, and it’s set to be one hell of a bloody affair.

“Strong bloody horror violence and gore, pervasive language and some sexual material.”
The film, an expansion of Roth’s faux trailer seen in Grindhouse (2007), will be released in theaters worldwide by TriStar Pictures and Spyglass Media Group (Scream).
In Thanksgiving, “After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday.”
The cast for the feature length slasher movie includes Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Jalen Thomas Brooks (“Walker”), Milo Manheim (Zombies), Nell Verlaque (“Big Shot”), Gina Gershon (“Chucky”), Tim Dillon and Rick Hoffman (Hostel).
Roth wrote the script with Jeff Rendell. Roger Birnbaum and Eli Roth are producing.

In a sea of talented child actors, it’s safe to say that Walker Scobell is doing quite well for himself. His role in the highly anticipated Disney+ series, Percy Jackson And The Olympians has no doubt made him one to look out for. Making his debut opposite Ryan Reynolds in the Netflix original The Adam Project, he demonstrated his prowess. Altogether, Walker is already being hailed as one of the most talented kid stars in recent years. This is despite the fact that his filmography is still bulking up. No doubt, all this has generally piqued interest in the young actor,...

Who doesn't love David Fincher? I did not love "Mank." But I still love David Fincher, and I know you do too. However you feel about that last feature, it's been a while since Fincher had a real consensus banger, and that's the kind of film he's known for. Viewers loved his Netflix series "Mindhunter", but hey, that's television, and Fincher only directed seven out of 19 episodes. Could "The Killer" slingshot Fincher back to the top of the American auteur pyramid, knocking the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Soderbergh, Gina Prince-Bythewood, or any of his other Gen X competitors off the top spot?
That remains to be seen. But we do have a new trailer for the film, a follow-up of the trailer Netflix released way back at the end of August. There have been more developments than the mere release of a second trailer since then, too. People have seen the movie.

Stand-up comic Nate Bargatze, whose family-friendly routines have earned him the reputation as the Nicest Guy In Comedy, shows an entirely different side of himself in today’s Saturday Night Live promo.
Bargatze, who will make his SNL guest host debut on this Saturday’s Halloween episode, begins the promo in his standard genial mode, apologizing to cast members Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker for taking up space.
“You can be anywhere you want,” Dismukes says, with Walker adding, “You’re the star, you’re the host.” The duo advise the newcomer to be “more Hollywood, more edgy.”
The advice goes quickly to his head, and when cast member Chloe Troast offers Bargatze some “welcome coffee,” Nasty Nate makes a sudden arrival.
The Grammy Award-nominated Bargatze, whose streaming stand-up specials include Hello World, The Greatest Average American, The Tennessee Kid and Full Time Magic, is currently touring his show Be Funny.

Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze is making his “Saturday Night Live” debut this weekend as the host of the third episode of Season 49. He will be joined by musical guest Foo Fighters, who were supposed to perform last season until the writers’ strike postposed the final three episodes of NBC’s late night sketch comedy program. In a new promo video (watch above), Bargatze is told that he needs to shed his “nice guy” image by cast members Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker, so he goes full-Hulk by vandalizing the iconic “SNL” studio.
“You know what your problem is? You’re too nice,” Dismukes tells him. “Mr. Nice Guy. You gotta be Hollywood, more edgy.”
Bargatze contemplates those words and ultimately replies, “More Hollywood? I can do that.”
New cast member Chloe Troast appears and hands over some “welcome coffee with simple syrup,” to which Bargatze takes the cup and aggressively throws it against the stage.

"Stick to the plan. Anticipate. Don't improvise." These are the mantra-like words of the nameless assassin in David Fincher's "The Killer." You could also imagine Fincher himself running those same words through his head as he obsessively makes a film. "The Killer" is clearly like catnip to the director — it's the story of an obsessive guy who meticulously goes about his work. Fincher makes movies. The Killer kills people. I'm not saying Fincher is on the same level as a cold-blooded killer, but he clearly sees a lot of himself (and his approach to his work) in his latest protagonist.
"The Killer" is a film as cold and calculating as its main character. One gets the sense that Fincher and writer Andrew Kevin Walker are going for something darkly funny, too, but the humor, while there, never quite connects. Part of that has to do with Michael Fassbender, who...

Sixteen years after Eli Roth made the ’80s slasher faux trailer Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, the concept has finally been expanded into a feature film that’s set to reach theatres on November 17th – that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year. Where did the "Fast & Furious" franchise hit its creative peak? It's a debate that will rage on forever. Some fans point to the early entries, when the series seemed to at least be sort of trying to stay within the grounds of realism. Others point to the latest movies, which have made it unambiguously clear that these are live-action cartoons where violence doesn't have real consequences for any of our main characters. Certain viewers and critics have always bafflingly tried to maintain that this franchise isn't in on the joke, that the writers include all these ridiculous moments while somehow being unaware of how unrealistic they are, but the latter movies have shut that form of critique down once and for all.
But for most, the series' peak was in the sixth or seventh movies. That was the point where the movies were getting aggressively silly without so many aggressive winks to the audience.

Ava DuVernay’s latest drama “Origin” has added an original song to its Oscar prospects.
New Zealand Māori artist Stan Walker performed the new song, “I Am,” at a private film screening at the Edition Hotel in West Hollywood on Wednesday. He also co-wrote the track with Michael Fatkin, Vince Harder and Te Kanapu Anasta. The song enters a competitive race of Oscar hopefuls from movies such as “Barbie” and “Trolls Band Together.”
Walker would make history as the second Indigenous person, and the first Indigenous man, nominated for original song. Buffy Sainte-Marie became the first Indigenous person ever to win an Academy Award in 1982 for the song “Up Where We Belong” from “An Officer and a Gentleman.” Aside from Sainte-Marie, the only Indigenous Oscar winner in 95 years is Taika Waititi, who took home the adapted screenplay prize for “Jojo Rabbit” (2019).

Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the BBC’s London headquarters on Monday evening to protest the broadcaster’s coverage of the terrorist attacks that took place in Israel last week.
The BBC has found itself mired in controversy after refusing to describe Palestinian group Hamas, who killed almost 2,000 citizens on Oct. 7, as terrorists. They have instead referred to them as “militants.” Hamas has officially been designated a proscribed terrorist organization by the U.K. government since 2021.
On Monday evening, protesters, many of them carrying Israel flags, gathered outside New Broadcasting House chanting “shame on you,” “justice” and “Hamas are terrorists” at the corporation. Some BBC employees could be seen peering out through the windows at the gathering.
Among the speakers at the event were former BBC anchor Jonny Gould and Talk TV host Andre Walker. Gould, who hosts the Jewish State podcast, told the crowd that Hamas are a group that “beheads babies,...

Everything's falling apart as Yellowstone moves toward the first season finale.
So much happened on Yellowstone Season 1 Episode 8 -- was it really only seven episodes ago that we first met these characters?
[Note: This review is based on the unedited version of the episode on streaming services. If you watched on CBS, there might be minor differences.]
Kayce's season-long struggle with guilt over killing Monica's brother came to a head, with Monica's brain injury leading her to re-evaluate everything. She delivered the ultimate gut punch when she suggested that she had to protect Tate from him and John.
She's likely known that Kayce killed her brother for a while, even though he's consistently refused to talk about it. What other reason could there possibly have been for his silence?
Earlier in the season, Monica pushed Kayce to tell her the truth and insisted they could get through it, but now she's pushing him away.
Understandably, she blames John's influence on Kayce for him in the fight over the cattle in the first place,...

Nothing on Yellowstone is ever random. At first, the Chinese tourists' altercation with John seemed pointless.
But by the end of Yellowstone Season 1 Episode 7, two of them were dead, thanks mainly to their own stupidity -- leading to a more serious problem when the ranch is already under extra scrutiny, and John is out of commission, at least for now.
[Note: This review is based on the unedited version of the episode available on streaming services. If you watched on CBS, there might be minor differences.]
I'm not sure why a bunch of tourists were interested in John's land or why they didn't seem to have any sense. Outsiders on Yellowstone often seem clueless about how life works on the ranch.
But now we've got two dead bodies and a bear who it may have been illegal to shoot, and Rip can't get ahold of anyone to help. Combined with Jenkins's plan to weaponize the legal system against John, this development pushes us swiftly toward the season-ending cliffhanger.
Meanwhile, things escalated quickly for John.

The chief of Scotland’s Marine Homicide Unit tries to keep her head above water after that big reveal in last year’s finale of Masterpiece crime drama Annika. Once Season 2 premieres on PBS on Sunday, October 15, others will soon learn what Nicola Walker’s Annika Strandhed told viewers in one of her fourth-wall-breaking moments: that a detective on her team, Michael McAndrews (Jamie Sives), is the father of her teenage daughter, Morgan (Silvie Furneaux). Regardless of the fallout, Walker promises no overwrought emotional eruptions in this series that mixes dry humor with dark cases. “What I love about the show is no one sits and wallows in anything,” she says. “They get on with it.” Cast and crew had to do just that when they started shooting new episodes in 2022. The departure midway through the six-episode season of one detective on Annika’s team, Tyrone Clarke, ...

Full of Hell and Nothing have announced a collaborative album, When No Birds Sang, due out December 1st via Closed Casket Activities. The video for the lead single “Spend the Grace” can be streamed now.
The two bands make an intriguing pair, with Full of Hell usually operating in harsher realms, as opposed to Nothing’s more melodic shoegaze sound. That said, both bands are undeniably heavy, and “Spend the Grace” is a crushingly beautiful testament to their combined powers.
Building from an almost ambient intro, featuring vocals from the Nothing side of the collab, the track quickly cascades into a devastating sludge-doom piece. Here, Full of Hell’s Dylan Walker lets his harsh howls out. It’s the sound of total catharsis, driven home by a poignant and captivating cinematic music video directed by Mike Martinez and Tyler Way.

I had to watch Linoleum twice before sitting down to write this review… Not because of the complexity of the latter half of the movie, or that there was something niggling me about it (which is often the way). I wanted to watch the movie again to make sure I wasn’t falling into hyperbole when I made my final statement on my thoughts about writer/director Colin West’s latest film. We will get there soon though…
I do have to add though, with Linoleum director Colin West (Double Walker) has introduced himself to me in a huge way and dare I say it, has utilised Jim Gaffigan in a practically flawless dual performance you will not forget in a hurry.

Henson is busting down doors and taking names as fan favorite character Shug in the upcoming movie musical adaptation of “The Color Purple.” Based on the acclaimed Alice Walker novel, filmmaker Blitz Bazawule’s film follows Celie (Fantasia Barrino) as she finds solace and perhaps more with Henson’s dazzling jazz singer Shug.
Star Barrino reprises the role of Celie after previously portraying the character in the Broadway show from 2007 to 2008 before embarking on the national tour in 2010.
