Seth Rogen has gotten into TV in a big way: As star and EP of Apple TV+’s “Platonic,” exec producer of Prime Video’s “The Boys” franchise, animated series like “Invincible” and “Sausage Party: Foodtopia,” and his upcoming Hollywood satire “The Studio,” also for Apple. But he’s still bullish on film as well. “I think people still like movies,” he tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “Last year, lots of movies did very well. I think if movies were going go away, they would have a long time ago.”
Rogen is passionate about this point. “Paintings are still around. People still go to museums! There’s things flashier or more ‘interesting’ than then oil on canvas, but people still flock from all over the world, enough to keep museums open. Not a ton of people have to like movies to keep movies going. It’s always been a...

Platonic creators and real-life husband and wife Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller took a break from writing Season 2 of their Apple TV+ and Sony Pictures Television show to speak with Deadline about Season 1. But, looking ahead, they promised fans can expect the same screw-ups out of Sylvia (Rose Byrne) and Will (Seth Rogen).
“These two characters have their insecurities and issues,” Stoller said at Contenders TV. “Those won’t be solved by a marriage and starting a wedding planning business. We’re all always the same messed up people at all times. No matter what you do, you’re still dealing with those issues.”
The season finale set up Will with a fiancée and Sylvia starting her new business. Those stories will continue over the season, with episodic banter and exploits.
“We want to do more of the same thing,” Delbanco said. “We know it has to be a little bit different.

Gather all your friends. Platonic is headed back to Apple TV + for Season 2.
In some ways, Platonic Season 1 felt like a limited series, but we're excited to have more time with Will, Sylvia, Charlie, and the other characters.
Platonic filled us with lots of drama and laughter, mainly because Rose Bryne and Seth Rogan worked together previously on the comedic film "Neighbors" along with creators and writers Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller.
Let's hope the second season is as successful as the first one.
While the second season may be a ways off, let's discuss possible release dates, Season 2 plot lines, cast, and everything we know so far.

Apple TV + renewed Platonic for Season 2 in December 2023. While the buddy comedy was initially planned as a limited series, it attracted a large following.

Can men and women ever truly be "just friends?" Well, considering I'm a disco-dancing, Oscar Wilde-reading, Streisand ticket-holding friend of Dorothy ... that's never been a problem for me. However, I've heard some downright horror stories from my straight gal pals regarding their relationships with other straight men, and likewise, I've listened to many a tale of my straight guy friends worried that their feelings for straight girl friends were becoming romantic. But this is by no means the dominant narrative. Platonic relationships between men and women are not only possible but extremely common, despite what a majority of TV shows and movies would have us believe.

“Good Omens” Renewed for Third and Final Season
Some good comes with some bad. Prime Video has announced a Season 3 renewal for its fan-favorite series “Good Omens,” starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen. However, the third season will be its last.
While the British comedy series was initially launched as a limited series, its popularity led to it being renewed for a second season, which premiered this past July. The story follows fussy angel and rare book dealer Aziraphale (Sheen) and fast-living demon Crowley (Tennant), who team up to form an unlikely alliance in an attempt to stop the approaching Armageddon.
Watch the trailer for “Good Omens” Season 2 below:
According to book and series creator Neil Gaiman, the forthcoming season will bring to life a conversation he and his co-writer, the late Sir Terry Pratchett, had nearly 35 years ago where they mapped out what happens next for their characters.

Back in May, the first season of the comedy series Platonic, which stars Neighbors and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising co-stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, aired on Apple TV+… and it clearly went over quite well, as Deadline reports that Apple TV+ has ordered more episodes of the show. Platonic season 2 is a go!
JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy gave the first season of the show an 8/10 review you can read at This Link. He described the show as “light and enjoyable” and said “hanging out with Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen for half-hour segments is full of laughs”. In fact, there were enough hilarious moments in each episode, he felt it made up for the narrative shortcomings in the series. I haven’t seen Platonic yet myself, but Alex’s review has definitely made me want to check it out.

It’s official: Platonic is returning.
Apple TV+ has doled out a second season to the comedy starring Rose Byrne (Sylvia) and Seth Rogen (Will), who play best friends (and only best friends). The duo also serve as executive producers on the series from their former Neighbors director Nick Stoller and his wife Francesca Delbanco. In a statement, the co-creators teased: “Season Two spoiler alert: Will and Sylvia won’t get together this time either.”
Though the streaming service doesn’t reveal viewership metrics, it’s been busy hailing Platonic as a “hit comedy,” which it certainly is among critics. “Since the first episodes of Platonic debuted on Apple TV+, global audiences have been charmed by the hilarious, wildly fun and relatable friendship that Rose and Seth have brought to life through their charismatic performances,” added Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, in a statement.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne played a happily married couple to great success in the Neighbors films. But when the franchise’s director, Nicholas Stoller, approached them to star opposite each other in his and wife Francesca Delbanco’s Apple TV+ comedy Platonic, he was after a different dynamic.
He was eager to trade on their chemistry while assuring audiences that their characters, who play longtime friends, would never actually hook up. Rogen and Byrne both jumped in, debuting their first hard-r — or, in this case, TV-ma — comedy in years.
With the actors strike behind them, the duo hopped on a Zoom from opposite coasts in early December to discuss their onscreen partnership, the future of the series and why Rogen fears his scalp may never be the same.

Exclusive: M88 on Tuesday announced its signing of Andrew Lopez, a fast-rising multi-hyphenate who, with appearances on Apple TV+’s Platonic and FX’s The Bear, has made his mark on two of the most buzzy series in recent memory.
An accomplished writer, director, and stand-up currently enjoying a breakout moment on the acting front, Lopez found his most substantial role to date opposite Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne on Platonic, the comedy series from Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, which debuted on Apple’s streamer in May. The show centered on Rogen’s brewer Will and Byrne’s stay-at-home mother Sylvia — a pair of longtime friends reconnecting as adults, after some time apart — has Lopez playing Reggie, the brother of the former’s ex-wife, who butts heads with him as a co-investor in his bar.

The brand new Apple TV show Platonic is one of the endearing representations of friendship on television in recent memory. Even though there was nothing much to explore content-wise, the show does have a decent repeat value because with every 30 minute episode, it ends up sharing a lot of stories of love, friends, and understanding. Created by Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Platonic is about a pair of old friends who have reconnected after many years and are trying to understand if things between them are still the same.
Platonic season one’s finale had a mini-showdown between Will and Sylvia. It was about how they perceive things around them, and Will expecting Sylvia to be herself, the free, independent woman that she always was. As per the long-term friendship that they shared, Will had always seen her as a go-getter, but this brand-new Sylvia is a people-pleaser, and he...

It’s been an eventful year for Luke Macfarlane, who reunites with Bros director Nick Stoller for Apple TV+’s comedy series Platonic alongside Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.
In the show that hails from co-creators Stoller and Francesca Delbanco and is currently streaming, Macfarlane plays attorney Charlie, who is raising three children with wife Sylvia (Byrne) and has to adjust to her rekindled friendship with the unpredictable Will (Rogen).
Macfarlane has had a full plate recently, having co-starred opposite Billy Eichner in last fall’s Universal release Bros, which spurred plenty of debate when it underperformed at the box office. He is also known for his Christmas films, including starring in numerous Hallmark projects and appearing in Netflix’s 2021 feature Single All the Way, which was the streamer’s first rom-com to focus on LGBTQ lead characters.

Costume designer Kameron Lennox has spent the last few years in the ’80s (Apple TV+’s “Physical”) and the ’90s (Hulu’s “Pam & Tommy”). But her work on Apple TV+’s 10-episode comedy “Platonic” is joyously, hilariously now.
Starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen, “Platonic” finds estranged best friends Sylvia (Byrne) and Will (Rogen) falling back into their old habits when they reconnect after his divorce. Sylvia’s a bored stay-at-home mother married to a Ken doll of a lawyer (Luke Macfarlane), while Will is the man behind popular Arts District bar Lucky Penny, content to coast on his brew skills and whatever cachet comes from co-owning a brewery in one’s 40s. And both of them are immediately known through their clothes.

Plot: A platonic pair of former best friends approaching midlife who reconnect after a long rift. The duo’s friendship becomes all consuming—and destabilizes their lives in a hilarious way.
Review: A question that has been used as fodder for countless romantic comedies over the years is whether a man and a woman can be friends without becoming sexual. Rob Reiner’s classic When Harry Met Sally asked that question, and the answer was a resounding no. But the new series Platonic starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, may prove otherwise. Reuniting the stars of the two Neighbors films, Platonic is a relationship comedy about two people in very different places who rediscover a friendship that helps them reassess parts of their lives that they otherwise could not contend with. “Neighbors” fans might recognize Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen unleashing chaos while holding onto what’s left of their youth in their new comedy series “Platonic” — a familiar dynamic the duo leaned into for the Apple TV+ series.
“In ‘Neighbors’ people always liked how we are kind of a bad influence on one another at times and kind of escalated each other’s stupidity and insanity,” Rogen told TheWrap. “This show plays into that in a bunch more unadulterated ways — we’re not a couple who has to really love one another, we don’t have to deal with the fall out of each other’s choices much either.”

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are a different kind of duo in their Apple TV+ series Platonic, which sees the Neighbors stars go from on-screen married couple to a pair of friends reconnecting after a fall out, who couldn’t possibly have less of a romantic spark.
In the half-hour comedy from Neighbors director Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Sylvia (Byrne) sees an Instagram post that her former best friend Will (Rogen) is divorcing his wife — whom she hated and her honesty about that years ago tanked their friendship — and decides to reach out in an effort to reconnect. The attorney-turned-stay-at-home mom, whose youngest child is now in school full time, and the newly single brew master are each at a crossroads and quickly fall into old habits as they turn to each other for support.

As a team, Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen by themselves could will anything to watchability. If anything, the new Apple TV+ show “Platonic” is a showcase for the things that each of them are unspeakably good at doing. Byrne is a physical comedy sorceress, turning everything from the process of getting ready in the morning to being repulsed by reptiles into its own distinct kind of laugh. Rogen paints with rants and references like a gravelly voiced watercolorist, rattling off reasons to be upset or angry like he’s capturing a Parisian countryside.
Spending years apart after a falling out, Will’s crumbling marriage gives Sylvia a chance to catch up. No ulterior motive, just a chance for two close friends to not be completely banished from each other’s lives. A rocky restart gradually gives way to more and more reminders of the fun of years past and soon,...

After flexing his dramatic muscles in The Fabelmans, Seth Rogen returns to his comic comfort zone as a millennial man-child in Platonic. Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco’s comedy begins when Will (Rogen) reconnects with his former best friend, Sylvia (Rose Byrne), who’s living a polar-opposite version of adulthood. Will dresses like a toddler, has a Duffman tattoo, and won’t take responsibility for anything beyond his pet lizard, while Sylvia is a lawyer turned stay-at-home mom, shuttling her kids between extracurricular activities and hunting for a new house while trying to keep the current one from falling apart.
Will and Sylvia’s reunion gets off to a rocky start. They meet at a local diner and anxiously zip punchlines back and forth at each other across the table. But, then, their friend date ends with a screaming match in the middle of the street in which they rehash...

This article contains no spoilers for Platonic.
It’s always refreshing to see a rom-com willing to go against the myriad of clichés that watered down the genre to all-too-familiar stereotypes and predictable storylines over the years. Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller’s latest 10-part Apple TV+ series, Platonic, manages to reshuffle the deck in a hilarious way while reinstating the on-screen friendship between a man and a woman, which doesn’t need to become more to satisfy viewer expectations. Seeking romance where there isn’t any can be just as bad in fiction as in real life. Thankfully, Platonic is well aware of that misstep and how to avoid it.
The plot follows Sylvia (Rose Byrne) and Will (Seth Rogen), two struggling Millennials at an age (early 40s) that often triggers a self-induced panic about their lives (both professional and personal), who they are, and what they achieved. It...

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are used to playing a married couple on screen, but how did they feel about starring as friends in their latest TV series “Platonic”?
Rogen and Byrne recently spoke to Et Canada’s Keshia Chanté about their new Apple TV+ show, in which they star as former BFFs — Will and Sylvia — who end up reconnecting as adults.
Fans will remember that the pair starred in the “Neighbours” movies together as married couple Mac and Kelly Radner.
Byrne said as we questioned whether the actors preferred playing a couple or friends, “It’s just different,” as Rogen added, “It’s just a little different, yeah.”

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have played a husband and wife in the Neighborhood movie franchise.
The pair reunites for the Apple TV+ comedy series Platonic, which finds them playing one-time best friends who fall back into each other's lives.
They share an all-consuming friendship that gets them into wild situations.
Byrne tells TV Fanatic exclusively that while Rogen and creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco were all draws for her to sign on the dotted line, she connected with the platonic relationship between her character Sylvia and Rogen's Will.
"I have a dear friend who is a guy, and we've always had a platonic friendship, and I've definitely been under the scrutiny of other people going, 'Hold on, wait, you're just friends?'"
Byrne says that Platonic is "pure comedy" and that viewers should expect "emotional resonance," but at its core, the show is very much about entertaining the audience while challenging expectations.

Having starred as harried marrieds in the popular 2014 comedy Neighbors, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are playing a different type of relationship — platonic old friends — for a new series, aptly titled Platonic, brimming with their undeniable chemistry. “It’s their warmth together that’s so appealing,” says Nick Stoller, who co-created, wrote, and executive produced with his Friends From College partner Francesca Delbanco. “They are friends in real life…and it feels like it.” (Credit: Apple TV+) Just don’t expect a huggy-feely affair. The EPs have blended hard comedy and emotional complexity for this story about Rogen’s Will and Byrne’s Sylvia, former college besties who’ve been bitterly estranged for years. She got caught up in her family and legal career; he’s still sore about her very vocal disapproval of the woman he married (Alisha Wainwright). “They both feel abandoned and believe it’s the other’s fault,...

Apple TV+’s Platonic knows perfectly well that it’s going to draw comparisons to When Harry Met Sally. The characters themselves call out the parallels within the first ten minutes, when Will (Seth Rogen) insists the ’80s classic “proves” it’s possible for him to remain platonic with his ex-bff Sylvia (Rose Byrne) — only to be disabused of the notion when it’s pointed out to him that the film actually ends with Harry and Sally getting hitched.
In truth, though, the When Harry Met Sally references are a bit of a feint. Platonic, created by Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco (Netflix’s Friends from College), is less concerned with whether men and women can maintain friendships in general than it is with what Will and Sylvia are getting out of this particular friendship at this particular moment. And while clean-cut answers prove hard to come by, the series...

Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen partner up for a destructive yet fun mid-life crisis in upcoming comedy series “Platonic.”
The comedy series, which launches May 24 on Apple TV+, follows former best friends (Rogen and Byrne) as they reconnect after a rift. Years after they originally became friends, their lives could not be more different. While Byrne has a family and husband (Luke Macfarlane), Rogen is recently divorced and works as a brewmaster at his own bar.
Nevertheless, the shenanigans begin as the pair welcome each other back into their lives in a manner Byrne’s friend calls “weird and destructive” as the not-so-dynamic duo mistakenly take a horse tranquilizer they believed to be cocaine.
