The Park is a film written and directed by Shal Ngo starring Carli McIntyre, Billy Slaughter, Laura Coover and Carmina Garay among others.
An interesting premise, different, well made, but sustained by a literary spirit. Plus, it has a story to tell and character development is included.
Doesn’t that make B-Series sound better?
Storyline
In a dystopian future, a virus kills humans once they reach puberty. Only children are left. This is the story of a group of young people in a park who fight against their own nature.
About the Film
A great little surprise in the form of Lord of the Flies in its plot and with a clear touch of The Purge in its look. A film that gets the most out of its actors, knows how to take advantage of its aesthetics and its plot and, worthwhile in its premise, knows how to take itself seriously,...

Writer/director Shal Ngo’s dystopian coming-of-age thriller The Park was clearly made on a low budget, but it also looks like the kind of film that could earn a solid cult following once XYZ Films gives it a VOD release in North America on March 2nd. To see if this post-apocalyptic story about kids going to war with each other is the sort of movie you’d like to check out, take a look at the trailer embedded above.
Set in a world without adults, The Park is “a tale of apocalyptic adventure and survival set within a long-abandoned amusement park”. Here’s the synopsis: When a mysterious virus starts killing all adults, society is left to be governed by children living on borrowed time. After the adult population is wiped out, rival kids battle for control of an abandoned theme park. Danger lurks around every corner, and they...

A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get a little freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is writer/director Tyler Christensen’s 2016 horror film House of Purgatory. A while back, when writing about the slasher Scare Zone (which is set in and around a Halloween haunted attraction), I encouraged inspiring filmmakers with access to haunted attractions to use those locations to their advantage, just like the makers of Scare Zone did. Two movies in, actor and writer/director Jim Cummings has certainly proven to be a talent full of idiosyncrasies. His debut, Thunder Road, made him someone to watch, while now, we have his sophomore feature to consider. Hitting this week, The Wolf of Snow Hallow sees Cummings turning his odd eye to genre, while very much keeping his voice intact. The result isn’t quite comedy and isn’t quite horror, but there’s a murder mystery element throughout that oddly fits his blackly comedic voice. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel or really push him forward as a storyteller, but as a lightly entertaining lark, it does the trick. The film is a mix of comedy and horror, centered on a series of murders in a small Utah mountain town. First, it’s a woman on vacation with her boyfriend. Then, it’s a ski instructor. And so on.

"I won't ask you to pray with me... because of the goddamn lawyers." Ha! A new werewolf film!? Sounds good to me. Orion Pictures has released the official trailer for an indie small-town thriller titled The Wolf of Snow Hollow, the latest film made by acclaimed indie filmmaker Jim Cummings, who received a lot of praise for self-releasing his film Thunder Road a few years ago. Terror grips a small mountain town as bodies are discovered after each full moon. Losing sleep, raising a teenage daughter, and caring for his ailing father, Officer Marshall struggles to remind himself there's no such thing as werewolves. Jim Cummings also stars as Officer Marshall, with a full cast including Riki Lindhome, Robert Forster, Jimmy Tatro, Chloe East, and Laura Coover. This looks dang good! Not only as a fresh, new werewolf film, but also as a small, snowy town thriller about the locals...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Terror Films. This critic has worked on some publicity for this title. **there are spoilers here. Director/writer: Tyler Christensen. Cast: Torey Michael Adkins, Laura Coover, Aaron Galvin, Brian Krause and Marika Engelhardt. House or Purgatory is a recent horror release from Terror Films and first time director Tyler Christensen. Filmed partly in Wisconsin, the film's central story is based on an urban legend. At a haunted house attraction, participants can get there money back, if they can get through the scariest attraction, ever built! Christensen sets a consistent dramatic, horrifying tone. However, the moral of his story is muddied along the way. The setting is supposed to be Purgatory, but the evidence suggests that this is Hell. Yet, none of characters are the typical sinners. The film's story would have been more cohesive, if Christensen would have stuck...

How To Get Away With Murder picked up where it left off in the woods with Connor (Jack Falahee), Laurel (Karla Souza) and Michaela (Aja Naomi King) after they lit Sam Keating’s (Tom Verica) body on fire. The trio worry that while they can trust Wes (Alfred Enoch), who ran off, they’re not sure if they can trust “her” or “her” influence on him.
'How To Get Away With Murder' Recap
In the present day, Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) has a new case for her eager students – that of Max St. Vincent (Steven Weber), a wealthy man who stands accused of stabbing his wife to death in bed. The man, who they presume is likely guilty, has no trouble recreating the prosecution’s suggested chain of events. With the cards stacked against them, Annalise thinks they need the supplemental arrest report. She sends Wes aka “puppy dog” to get it.

There is an urban legend about a Halloween fright house that is so scary, you get some of your money back for each level you make it through. No one has ever gotten a full refund. I had never heard of this urban legend, but first-time director Tyler Christensen has, and has turned that legend into horror film: House of Purgatory. The film stars Brian Krause (Sleepwalkers, Charmed) as The Skeleton, and Laura Coover, Anne Leighton, Brad Fry, and Aaron Galvin as his hapless victims. FEARnet snagged the Exclusive teaser trailer - check it out after the jump.

That one decision seems to...

A Halloween haunted house attraction so terrifying that the proprietors offer a refund to anyone who can make it through the whole thing? Surely there must be a catch. Yeah - you're dead. Welcome to the House of Purgatory.
First-time writer director Tyler Christensen has assembled a cast of relative newcomers (Anne Leighton, Laura Coover, Aaron Calvin, Brad Fry) for this Wisconsin lensed indie fright flick about a haunted house attractive that gives Halloween thrillseekers more than their money's worth.
Every Halloween stories circulate about a haunted house so terrifying that the organizers give money back to people brave enough to make it up each of the 7 floors.
Rumor has it that nobody has ever made it all the way to the top.
Brian Krause ("Charmed", Stephen King's Sleepwalker) co-stars as a character known simply as "The Skeleton", a character I presume will be a sinister being lurking within...
