Exclusive: The upcoming documentary Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplains Journey has received the rare honor of a screening at the Vatican.
The film written and directed by Rich Hull and Justin D. Roberts – a former combat chaplain himself – is produced by Paulist Productions and the U.S. Army Chaplains Corps, marking the first ever co-production between Hollywood and the chaplains corps. Built around the story of Emil Kapaun, a combat chaplain who died as a prisoner of war in North Korea in 1953, the documentary examines the ultimate sacrifice made by hundreds of U.S. military combat chaplains.

“In 2021, when the remains of former Pow/Mia Army combat chaplain Emil Kapaun, possibly the Vatican’s next saint, are identified after 70 years, much of the nation is captivated by their journey home,” notes a description of the film.

Earlier this year, Dr. Dre, via his relatively young Crucial Films production company (launched in 2007), stepped in to produce a horror/thriller titled Thaw, from a script penned by Vik Weet, based on an original idea by Dre's production company partner Daniel Schnider. The story will center on an ancient evil that emerges from the rapidly melting ice in the Yukon. No word on cast yet. I believe it's still in the script stage. Crucial Films, by the way, has a first-look deal at New Line Cinema. But while we wait for that project to develop, Dre will flex his producer skills on TV - specifically, on FX. The deal between Dre and FX is for a...

Over the years horror features have steadily enticed intense musicians to turn moviemaker. First White Zombie founder Rob Zombie began writing and directing his own wacky brand of horror with flicks like House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. Then, Guns 'n Roses guitarist Slash created Slasher Films as a means to spawn his own satanic cinema, like the upcoming Nothing to Fear. Now, hip hop impresario Dr. Dre is diving into the horror game, producing Thaw, a creepy thriller conceived by his Crucial Films partner Daniel Schnider. According to Variety, Thaw will focus on the chaos caused by an ancient evil that's unleashed from its icy Yukon prison once the thaw sets in. Vik Weet, a former reality show story editor turned screenwriter, has been tapped to pen the project after pleasing Dre and Schnider with the screenplay for an untitled thriller that explores the eerie true story...
