Just as a fair warning, I’m currently writing this review under the influence of alcohol, because The Pyramid didn’t think a press screening was necessary, or provide any Thursday night/midnight public releases before its December 5th release date. While I desperately try not to let such aggravating situational roadblocks cloud my judgement, what’s a critic supposed to think when a December horror movie refuses early screenings, Thursday night conveniences, and even midnight horror crowds?!
Editor’s Note: Decided to sleep off the alcohol. I’m now awake, and after soberly running through The Pyramid in my head, I can still confirm it’s the equivalent of dogshit crusted to the bottom of your shoe that takes about an hour and a half to scrape off. Let’s proceed, shall we?

20th Century Fox released their new horror/thriller film, "The Pyramid," into theaters today, and we got a few reviews from the top, major critics that appear to be all mediocre at best with just a 40,20 and 50 out of a possible 100 score at the Metacritic.com site. The film stars: Denis O'Hare, Ashley Hinshaw, James Buckley, Christa-Marie Nicola, and Amir K. We've posted blurbs from the 3, lonely critics, below. Guy Lodge from Variety, gave it a 50 score, stating: "Correctly ascertaining that auds will be less interested in the outcome than in the obstacles along the way, Levasseur plants and executes the pic’s exclamation-point scares with grinning, squelching gusto." Chris Michael over at The Guardian, gave it a 20 score, saying: "Levasseur understands the claustrophobia of being locked inside a stuffy pyramid with collapsing floors and sand traps. Unfortunately for him, Indiana Jones turns out to be incompatible with Alien, and...

*Updated with two new clips* “Tell them not to open it up yet, tell them to hold off,” says Dr. Holden in one of the new clips from Grégory Levasseur’s The Pyramid. Though they are excited, Dr. Holden and his colleagues soon find they would be better off not attending the first opening of the lost pyramid. In addition to the new clips, Fox released a featurette exploring the longtime friendship between director Grégory Levasseur and producer Alexandre Aja.
“The ancient wonders of the world have long cursed explorers who’ve dared to uncover their secrets. But a team of U.S. archaeologists gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert. As they unlock the horrific secrets buried within, they realize they aren’t just trapped, they are being hunted.”

We’ve got another found-footage horror film being released called The Pyramid, and this trailer makes it look like it’s going to be a lot of fun. The last found-footage horror movie I saw was As Above, So Below and I really liked it. I can enjoy a decent found-footage flick, but I think these kinds of films would be so much better if they were shot in the traditional movie style. The Pyramid seems like a really fun concept, and it comes from director Gregory Levasseur and produced by Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D, The Hills Have Eyes, Horns). Here’s the synopsis:
The ancient wonders of the world have long cursed explorers who’ve dared to uncover their secrets. But a team of U.S. archaeologists gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert. As they unlock the horrific secrets buried within,...

This art is deliberate departure from the "skull 'n pyramid" poster we've been seeing. The question is: Who, or what, does that eye belong to?
Directed by Gregory Levasseur and produced by Aja (The Hills Have Eyes), the film stars Ashley Hinshaw, James Buckley, Denis O’Hare, Christa-Marie Nicola and Amir K.
