FX has located its Last Man. Ben Schnetzer will play the lead role in the network’s upcoming Y: The Last Man adaptation, replacing Barry Keoghan, our sister site Variety reports.
Schnetzer — who’s appeared in movies like Warcraft, Snowden and Pride — will star as Yorick, the last male human left alive after a cataclysmic event strikes Earth and wipes out every other man. Ben Schnetzer has stepped into the role of Yorick Brown in FX’s upcoming “Y: The Last Man” series, Variety has learned. He takes over the role from Barry Keoghan, who exited the series at the beginning of this month.
The show is based on Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s award-winning DC Comics graphic novel series of the same name, in which a cataclysmic event kills all cisgender males on the planet with the exception of Yorick (Schnetzer) and his helper monkey, Ampersand. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better.
Schnetzer recently starred in the FX drama pilot “Gone Hollywood.” His other TV roles include shows such as “The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair” and “Happy Town.” His feature credits include films like “Snowden,” “Pride,” “The Book Thief,...

Yet another setback has befallen the “Y: The Last Man” series adaptation at FX.
Barry Keoghan, who was poised to play the central character of Yorick Brown, has exited the series, Variety has confirmed. He was originally cast when the project was still in the pilot stage back in mid-2018.
Reps for Keoghan and FX and did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The news is the latest in a string of changes at the show based on the graphic novels by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Eliza Clark was named as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the show in June 2018, taking over from original showrunners Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal, who exited the project a couple months before.
“Y” was originally ordered to series by FX in February, 2019. The project explores a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male save for one lone human.

FX is moving forward with their series adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s Y: The Last Man. They ordered a pilot episode to be developed last year and apparently they liked it enough to give it a full season order.
The series is simply called Y and the story is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which “a cataclysmic event has decimated every male save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.“ Below you’ll find a first look photo:

On Monday, FX gave an official series order for the adaptation of the iconic “Y: The Last Man,” marking the end of a long journey to the screen. There’s a lot to unpack in that announcement: In addition to providing the network a top-notch slice of sci-fi IP, Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra’s critically acclaimed Vertigo Comic also gives the cable network the rare opportunity to correct gender and genre gaps in one go.
While the series won’t launch until 2020, there’s reasons to believe it could be a cornerstone of FX’s future programming. And there are reasons to get excited about what that might look like, listed below.
FX Could Use Some Girl Power
Per FX, “‘Y’ traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender,...

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

As hard as it may be to believe sometimes, someone (or someones) actually sits down and writes a movie or TV show before you end up seeing it at your local multiplex or on your favorite TV network. The people who do the sitting and the writing are, surprisingly, called writers and, like the Directors, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, they have their own awards show.
This week, the Writers Guild of America, which is the trade group and advocate for writers, announced its nominations for outstanding achievement in feature film and television, radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation during the 2009 season to be honored at the upcoming 2010 Writers Guild Awards on February 20, 2010, in Los Angeles and New York.
We realize that these nominations may not be as glamorous as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but we kinda like writers around here and think they do a pretty important job.

Awards heavyweights "Mad Men," "30 Rock" and "The Office" and buzzed-about newcomer "Modern Family" led the TV field for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards with three nominations each.
AMC's "Mad Men" and NBC's "30 Rock" and "The Office" are in the running for best drama/comedy series, and each received two nominations for episodic writing. "Family" made the cut for best comedy series, best new series and best episodic writing for a comedy series.
ABC's "Family" was one of two new shows to break into the best series categories along with Fox's quirky high-school dramedy "Glee," which faces "Family" in the best comedy series and best new series fields.
While the WGA Awards are still in its nomination phase, Fox's "The Simpsons" can already uncork the champagne. The veteran series is assured to win the animation category after landing all five nomination slots.
