Lisa Kennedy Montgomery is best known to a generation as, simply, Kennedy — the hip MTV VJ who helped introduce America to Nirvana and Soundgarden on Alternative Nation, mimed oral sex on a mic during the 1994 VMAs — while standing next to Rudy Giuliani, no less — and eventually came out as a die-hard Republican. (In a ’94 Vanity Fair profile, she even declared her ardent love for former vice president Dan Quayle.)
Nearly 20 years later, the 41-year-old mother of two has left her wild-child past behind for a career as a writer, radio host, and Fox Business contributor. But while her political views haven’t really changed,...

The "Cbgb" movie is on slate for a 2013 arrival, so it's only right that there's a new poster for the film. With the tagline "50,000 bands. One disgusting bathroom," the image displays the film's leading actors, to tell the story of New York's most infamous punk club. Alan Rickman stars as Hilly Kristal, Cbgb's founder; Rupert Grint is on hand as Cheetah Chrome (Rocket From the Crypt); Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins takes up the mic as Iggy Pop; Malin Ackerman plays Blondie's Debbie Harry; Ashley Greene as Hilly's daughter Lisa; and more. Randall Miller ("Bottle Shock," "Nobel Son," "Houseguest")...

Recently reunited punk act Rocket From The Crypt has announced a handful of 2013 dates. While none of the shows are in the U.S.—because the band hates us, apparently—Rftc has also posted on Facebook that it may still play some other shows, depending on how these go. A full list of dates is below. The tour news was part of a semi-jokey Q&A that Rftc posted, answering queries like “Can I shake Speedo’s hand?” and “My friend Chris doesn’t really like your band, but he is my ride. What should I do?” (Answers: Yes ...

Punk-inspired rock band Rocket From The Crypt may be, in fact, rocketing back from its proverbial crypt. Swami Records—which is owned by Rocket singer-guitarist John "Speedo" Reis and home to acts like The Night Marchers and Hot Snakes—posted this very suggestive teaser image on its Facebook page, implying that 2013 will hold some sort of new Rftc release or tour or something. So far there’s no official confirmation of anything more, but as far as Rftc is concerned, any news is good news. Earlier this fall, the band performed together for the first time in years on ...

The L.A. hardcore supergroup Off! made an explosive first impression in 2011 with First Four EPs, and now the band is prepping a self-titled full-length LP set for release May 8. Not that Off! is going to be some kind of massive album epic—the press release says it will have "16 high intensity tracks in as many minutes." The group—which includes Keith Morris of Black Flag and Circle Jerks, Dimitri Coats of Burning Brides, Mario Rubalcaba of Hot Snakes and Rocket From the Crypt, and Steven McDonald of Red Kross—also has some upcoming tour dates, which ...

New clip is a tribute to artist Raymond Pettibon, who helped shape the L.A. punk scene the band grew up in.

When I first interviewed the Red Hot Chili Peppers back in June, frontman Anthony Kiedis made it a point to wear his now-ubiquitous Off! cap (the same one he'd wear in their "Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" video), a tribute to the punk supergroup made up of members of Black Flag, Red Kross and Rocket From the Crypt, to name just a few.
The reason I mention that now is because the Peppers just premiered the video for "Monarchy of Roses," the second single from their I'm With You album, a stark, surging, (mostly) black-and-white thing very much indebted to the work of artist Raymond Pettibon, who made his mark designing album covers,...

There's a brilliant moment in the underrated, relatively obscure film I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, where Keenan Ivory Wayans sees Bernie Casey walking with a band of musicians behind him, and asks him who they are. Casey looks at him like he's an idiot and claims, "They're my theme music. Every hero's got to have some." After the film's big, ridiculous climax, Wayans has bought into it, and walks off with his own band in tow -- the wonderful 90's funk/rock/ska band Fishbone, no less.*
And it's true. Music is a critical part of film, and I don't just mean the score. I love a perfectly placed song in a movie -- there are plenty of movies with good soundtracks, but rarely is the placement of those songs as well thought-out. That's the part that I find myself obsessing over.
Last week, I presented you with a glimpse into that obsession,...

Never before has a trailer summed up my feelings quite as effectively as this one. It's created by i09's Garrison Dean, and it's a recut/remix of the trailer for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's upcoming, ultraviolent revenge flick, Faster. And it nails what we've all been feeling. Rock, you should be an action star, punching and stabbing and shooting your way through films. No fucking moppets and fairy wings. Blood and guns, dude. Your fans don't want to see you learning how to love or pratfalling or chucking the wee ones on the chin.
Put simply, we want to see you fucking shit up.
And now, Mr. Dean, with brilliant assistance from the mighty bands The Sword and Rocket From The Crypt, has given us a trailer that encompasses all of that. I give you: Faster: The Rampage Trailer.
Enjoy:

Faster marks a change for actor Dwayne Johnson who stars in his first R-rated action movie (not including Doom in which Johnson isn’t really the protagonist.) This fan-made trailer from “TheMonocularGroup” mixes images from the film to music by Barry Upton (Ultra Vision),
The Sword (Acheron) and Rocket From the Crypt (Come See Come Saw), and opens with a montage of the greatest action stars such as Clint Eastood, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charles Bronson, Chuck Norris and many more. Enjoy.
