Alexandre Guerra is a Brazilian composer, born in São Paulo in 1971. His production is divided between musical film scores and works for the concert hall. He is a member of "Sociétaires Professionnels" (Sacem - France) and WSA (World Soundtrack Academy). He graduated from Berklee College of Music in film scoring.
In Brazil, he studied harmony and composition with Hans Koellheuter - an important name in Brazilian musical life during the 20th century. His education allowed him fluency in a wide variety of styles and orchestral formations, present in his compositions dedicated to films, as well as in his work on concert music.
Images and stories work as a creative trigger for Alexandre, many of his compositions were inspired by the literature of Eça de Queiroz, Alexandre Dumas, or works by artists such as Matisse, Picasso and Oswaldo Goeldi.
In recent years, his music has been performed regularly by several orchestras, such as the Budapest Symphony, Montevideo Philharmonic, Porto Alegre Symphony, National Symphony, Bucharest Symphony, among others, in a total of more than 20 orchestras.
In 2022, there were 22 concerts by 11 orchestras, including the premieres of "Divagações sobre a Noite" at Sala São Paulo by saxophonist Nailor Proveta and São Paulo Chamber Soloists, from the song cycle "O Mar como quem vem" at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, with a solo by mezzo-soprano Denise de Freitas.
Recently, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Paraná and the ballet from Teatro Guaíra presented his piece "Lendas Brasileiras" to an audience of more than 20,000 people", and in Manaus, the Orquestra de Câmara do Amazonas dedicated a program exclusively to his compositions.
In 2018, Alexandre composed the symphonic overture "Guerreiras Amazonas" in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Santo André Symphony Orchestra and the following year, at the invitation of maestro Laércio Diniz, Alexandre participated in the program of the João Pessoa Symphony Orchestra, as resident composer.
The composer has released 27 albums, 11 of which were recorded by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, including "Fantasia for Guitar and Orchestra" with solo by Chrystian Dozza. The "Fantasia Rodin & Camille" for piano and string orchestra, with the special participation of Fabio Martino, and his album "Ballet de Azul e Vento" was a finalist in the 26th Brazilian Music Award.
In the universe of popular music, he worked as an arranger on projects with Carlinhos Brown & Bahia Symphony Orchestra, and Léo Gandelman and Symphonic Band Natal, in addition to being awarded the Sharp Prize in the category of instrumental music, as best arranger for the album "Girassol " by Ed Ribeiro Lima.
His beginnings in cinema took place as an instrumentalist, in the film "Pentathlon" by Dolph Lundgren, in 1994. Today, Alexandre brings together over 30 concert works, from Tone Poems to Opera, and 130 film scores composed in collaboration with directors such as Jayme Monjardim , Bruno Barreto, Pascal Cuissot and Marcelo Machado, in films and series such as, "O Tempo e o Vento", The Violin Teacher", "The American Guest" (HBO), "Blue Brazil" (Disney) and " Maysa" (Rede Globo).
