Growing up action movies were, for me, second only to horror flicks as my go to genre. I used to scour the pages of Impact for news on the latest films and then pre-order the VHS at my local video shop – because yes, back in the day you could actually pre-order a video rental and I Always had to be first to rent my most-anticipated flicks! I mention this only because it was back in that era that the action movie star was king. Plenty of movies here in the States have of course been inspired by allegedly true paranormal events, from The Amityville Horror to The Conjuring.
A sure sign of the success of such films is when the haunted houses at the center of them become tourist attractions in the wake of their release, which is something that's going on big time over in China this weekend.
As reported by The New York Times, this past Thursday night marked the theatrical release of a film called The House That Never Dies (Jingcheng No. 81), which quickly became a smash hit at the Chinese box office. The 3D horror flick has already pulled in $25.7 million, putting it third on the domestic charts.
Like the aforementioned films before it, The House That Never Dies was based on the real-life legend of a mansion in Beijing known as Chaonei No. 81. According to stories, the house was...

Well now we know, as there’s a new trailer out for The House That Never Dies, a spiffy new Chinese horror film directed by Raymond Yip. The plot is apparently based on a “true” story regarding a haunted mansion, Chaonei No. 81, which is located on No.81 Chaoyangmen Street in Beijing. Add a top notch cast (including Francis Ng , Ruby Lin , Tony Yang, Li Ching and Monica Mok) plus the great visuals into the pot, and all in all its looking rather good. The House That Never Dies opens in Hk and China next month. Synopsis: The Chaonei No. 81 was a three-story French Baroque-style house which was built in the 1800s by Qing officials. Legend says that the house became haunted after the end of the Chinese Communist Revolution in 1949, when the wife of a Kuomintang official who once lived there committed suicide. It is believed that her spirit still haunts the house.

The first trailer for Wong Jing's upcoming gangster epic, The Last Tycoon, hit Distribution Workshop's Facebook page just moments ago, and goes some way to dispelling doubts over whether or not the man can still deliver - because, frankly put, it looks pretty awesome. Chow Yun Fat and Huang Xiaoming play the older and younger versions of notorious Shanghai mobster Du Yuesheng, who had close ties with Chiang Kai Shek and the Kmt, in this 1920s-set period actioner. Andrew Lau is on board as a producer, and Sammo Hung, Francis Ng, Yolanda Yuan, Yuan Li and Monica Mok round out the cast. I'm suddenly a whole lot more excited about this one!...

We’ve beaten you profusely about the head and neck with images from Raymond Yip’s upcoming Chinese horror flick “Blood Stained Shoes”, so it’s only appropriate that we deliver an English-subtitled trailer for you to consume, as well. And while I’m still not entirely sure what the film is all about — if anyone has a plot synopsis, feel free to point us in the right direction — the flick certainly looks bloody enough for me to take notice. Not that gore and carnage are essential to my enjoyment, mind you. But when you have little else to go on, it does help grease the wheels of interest just a bit. And, yes, I realize this makes me sound insane. “Blood Stained Shoes”, which stars Ruby Lin, Monica Mok, Anna Kay, Kara Hui, Michael Tong, Xing Minshan, Daniel Chan, Jing Gangshan, and Daichi Harashima, opens on March 8th, 2012. The trailer,...

Although I still haven’t located a proper synopsis for Yip Wai-man’s “Blood Stained Shoes”, more images from the mysterious Chinese horror flick have emerged online. Who needs a plot summary when you have images taken completely out of context? The film, which stars Ruby Lin, Kara Hui, Monica Mok, Michael Tong, and Xing Minshan, is sure to get a trailer at some point, and as soon as it arrives on the proverbial scene, we’ll let you know. “Blood Stained shoes” opens in China this March. If you missed the first batch of photos, you should probably take a trip to this location...

There isn’t a wealth of information surrounding director Yip Wai-man’s forthcoming horror flick “Blood Stained Shoes”, but it’s not that hard to figure out what the film is all about. Ghostly women? Gore-encrusted ladies footwear? This isn’t exactly rocket science. Regardless, some of the recently-released images from the production are certainly intriguing, though looks can definitely be deceiving. However, that’s about all we have to go on at this point, given that there currently isn’t a trailer available for consumption. As soon as one becomes available, we’ll get to embedding. “Blood Stained Shoes” stars Ruby Lin, Kara Hui, Monica Mok, Michael Tong, and Xing Minshan. Look for the film to haunt Chinese theaters this March...

I’m not entirely sure what this one’s about, folks, but that hasn’t stopped me from watching the embedded trailer a couple of times tonight. It’s a little jarring and a touch annoying, but that, I think, is what makes this film so alluring. Although a proper synopsis detailing a few plot points would be nice to have, all you really need to know about the flick resides in its title. There is, in fact, a dinner party taking place, and crazy things are happening at a mad rapid pace. Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine. But don’t waste your time over-thinking it. Director Shang Jing’s “Crazy Dinner Party”, which stars Fan Wei, Huang Bo, Monica Mok, Liu Hua, and Liang Guanhua, opens in China on January 23rd, 2012. When will the rest of us get to partake in said festivity? That remains...

Princess And Seven Kung Fu masters is the latest project from director Wong Jing (City Hunter) and will star kung fu legends Sammo Hung and Yuen Wah.
Plot
During the early years of the Republic era, in the North-East region of China, the people are suffering from the power struggle among the local Warlords, bandits, and Japanese invaders. Warlord Lam (Sammo Hung), is not a leader of great vision, but having a patriotic heart, stands firm in his own beliefs, despite the several solicitations and temptations from Japan.
The only ‘paradise’ within the region is ‘Lucky Town’, the one place where no one dared to attack. Rumors abound that this place is cursed, for whenever anyone attempted to invade Lucky Town, they would disappear and vanish without a trace. In reality, there are seven kung fu masters who have retreated into the shadows and resided here. They are Manysons (Eric...

Not to be confused with Harpoon: Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre (which incidentally is still the greatest film title ever), China has its own special breed of Harpoon killer looking to slash his way into your hearts via a trident of all things!
That's right, kids! A trident! Don't think we've seen that before, but holy shit, does it have us intrigued.
Harpoon is directed by Zhou Yaowu and stars Monica Mok (To Live And Die In Mongkok), Hu Bing (It Had To Be You), Li Lingyu, and Shuangbao Wang. The flick will be opening in China sometime this December.
Plot details are scant, but the trailer below pretty much speaks for itself. Dig it!

Not a great deal of information about this one at this stage beyond the fact that Harpoon is directed by Zhou Yaowu and stars the rather beautiful Monica Mok, who we all saw rather a lot of in Ocean Flame and seems to be in various states of undress here. The plot seems to revolve around a mysterious killer chasing a group of pretty young things around the island set of The Life Aquatic but as soon as we get more information on this project we shall share it right here. The film opens in China (and hopefully Hong Kong) in December and co-stars Hu Bing and Li Lingyu, but in the meantime, enjoy some stalking, a bit of skin and a few screams in...
