Not so fast on the talk about premium video-on-demand, AMC Entertainment CFO Craig Ramsey told investors today. The world’s biggest exhibition chain — owned by China’s Wanda Group — is talking to studios about a plan to offer movies to home viewers within the 90-day period when theaters typically have exclusive rights. But “we're not seeing a lot of movement … it would be a stretch to say we’re negotiating around a solution,” he told the annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia…...

Studio execs from Fox’s Stacey Snider to Paramount’s Jim Gianopulos have recently been singing the praises of some form of premium video on demand (as this summer’s box office has endured a massive slump), but the world’s largest theater chain isn’t close to a deal yet. At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference in New York, AMC Entertainment Chief Financial Officer Craig Ramsey said the exhibitor is talking with studios about some type of new window that would allow film producers to deliver first-run movies to consumers at home sooner — and for a higher price. But a deal is hardly.

AMC Entertainment’s stock is down 31 percent since Aug. 1 amid a brutal box office slump, but the company sees plenty of upside in a relatively under-tapped European market and a solid fall slate. One area it does not see upside: the $10/month unlimited movie subscription service, MoviePass. AMC blasted the service last month, calling it “not in the best interest of moviegoers, movie theaters and movie studios,” and Chief Financial Officer Craig Ramsey said it’s still not a good deal for the cinema chain at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2017 Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference conference in Beverly Hills.

Negotiations between the major studios and domestic exhibitors have hit an impasse in an attempt to create a premium VOD window for consumers, according to AMC Entertainment CFO Craig Ramsey.
Studios and theater owners are having ongoing discussions about shortening theatrical windows, the amount of time films play exclusively in theaters before they are made available for home viewing. "After 14, 16 months of talking, I don't see movement towards a solution," the exec on Wednesday told the B. Riley Institutional Investors Conference during a session that was webcast.

AMC Entertainment Holdings has just ended a big year at the box office after completing acquisitions for Carmike Cinemas and Odeon & Uci in Europe and seeing domestic box office top $11 billion in 2016 for another industry record.
It's too soon for AMC Entertainment CFO Craig Ramsey to predict that 2017 will be another record year at the Hollywood box office, but he sees strong prospects from sequels like Furious 8: The Fate of the Furious, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Star Wars: Episode VIII now on deck.

In what could, if we’re feeling charitable, be interpreted as a refreshing burst of corporate honesty, the AMC theater chain might soon be skipping past all its various movie-going upsells like 3-D, IMAX, and chairs that are actually comfortable to sit in, and just start charging people more for tickets to big-budget blockbuster movies. (To be fair, they’ll probably still offer all that other stuff, too.) The news comes shortly after AMC purchased European chain Odeon & Uci, which already practices the variable pricing model, charging more for “tentpole” movies in their first few days of release.
Per AMC CFO Craig Ramsey: “[Odeon & Uci] are further advanced in variable pricing, where tentpole movies are priced up on release. That’s something we’ve talked about in the U.S. We expect to learn a lot with what they’ve done. We think it will position us to ...

The No. 2 theater chain’s board named CFO Craig Ramsey as interim CEO, and formed a Search Committee to find a permanent replacement for Gerry Lopez when he steps down on August 6 for “another opportunity,” it says this morning. AMC Entertainment shares opened down about 1.2% after the announcement. Starbucks or Yum! Brands (which owns KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell) are among the “most likely” landing places for Lopez, Stifel Research’s Benjamin Mogil says. Lopez was an…...
