So long, ballads; hello, ballots! The Mayor, ABC's new sitcom which won our vote for the best new series of the fall, centers on Brandon Michael Hall as a young rapper who stages a mayoral campaign as a stunt…but then is shocked to learn he's actually elected. Fortunately, he has his former-classmate-turned-chief-of-staff Valentina (Lea Michele) to guide him, which means lots of political jargon for the Glee and Scream Queens star as her character is "obsessed with politics." "Right now with everything going on in the world, I think watching the news sometimes is incredibly difficult," Lea Michele recently told E! News, "but I've definitely...

In the wake of the Emmys, it’s about time for a new season a television to arrive. But with the changing landscape and a surge in experimentation, the TV viewer who seeks quality might feel a bit overwhelmed. Even though critics are already pointing out lackluster lineups on network television and chronic problems with diversity and representation, the many mediums of contemporary television are a wide open terrain for fall viewing and critiquing. Here is a list of 10 shows (in no particular order) worth considering as you set your fall TV viewing plans. “The Mayor”With Brandon Michael Hall (“Search Party”) in his first lead role on a TV series, “The Mayor” imagines a world where a political outsider wins an election and takes office. Sound familiar? Don’t worry, this show isn’t as toxic as the circumstances of one recent national election; it’s a fun, yet...

For anyone who loves a good murder mystery, the first season of TBS’ Brooklyn-set hipster series “Search Party” filled a certain Nancy Drew-shaped void last year. Season 2 is quickly approaching (how is it already September?) and it looks like this year an Alfred Hitchcock-shaped void will be filled. Each poster hearkens back to a classic Hitchcock film, with the tagline “I miss when my problems were about nothing.” In Season 1, Dory (Alia Shawkat) and her gang — played by John Early, Brandon Michael Hall and Meredith Hagner and John Reynolds — end up (spoiler!) killing someone, so the follow-up...

The Mayor writer/Ep Jeremy Bronson says his lead character, an aspiring rapper accidentally elected mayor of a small Bay Area town after campaigning as a publicity stunt, is not an alt-look Donald Trump, the reality TV star turned Potus, who some have suggested did not expect/want to win so much as to bolster ratings on Celebrity Apprentice. Series mayor Courtney Rose, played by Brandon Michael Hall, is as much Mr. Smith Goes To Washington and Jerry Springer as Trump…...

Lea Michele has joined the cast of the untitled ABC comedy pilot from “Hamilton” alum Daveed Diggs, TheWrap has learned. The pilot, written and executive produced by Jeremy Bronson, centers on an outspoken, idealistic rapper who runs for office as a publicity stunt and actually gets elected. He surprises everyone (including himself) when he has a natural knack for the job and slowly transforms City Hall. The part, originally written as the mayor’s chief of staff, is being reworked to accommodate Michele’s casting. It’s been a long time since I’ve done a Geek Eye For the Grown Guy post, a segment at SciFi Mafia where we show you how interior design is done with a bit of nerd flair. Truth be told, my inner nerd-terior designer hasn’t been that impressed with a lot of what I’ve seen.
And then Brandon Michael Barker showed me the light – refracting beautifully through his stained glass pieces. You can pick up any of the divine 16×20 inch pieces below over at his store for the lofty sum of $300 each. Not too bad for something so original, and hand crafted if I may say so. Check them out, below.

Dancing With The Stars is a true phenomenon, despite the sometimes low caliber of its “stars” and the fact that we totally don’t get it. But people love it, and that means it was only a matter of time before it got a spin-off. And that spin-off is called Skating With The Stars. Has the state of television really come to this? Yes, it has. Skating will air on ABC starting on November 22 and have the same producers at Dwts, but only six contestants. Because apparently there are literally only six D-listers that can be trusted to be in a reality show where you put blades on your feet. So who are the lucky skaters? Hoo boy. Okay, you’ve got your sauce-loving rocker Vince Neil, your unstable actress Sean Young (who we shall nickname “Blade Runner” for the duration of this show), reality-show veteran Bethenny Frankel, the Winter...
