While Jason Calacanis stated at an online video industry conference in Southern California last week about how all is not well in the fledgling state of YouTube, another online video executive revealed at least one newsworthy data point on the state of the online video ad industry at a similar event in New York City. TubeMogul Founder and CEO, Brett Wilson told the audience of Videonuze’s 2013 Online Video Advertising Summit that 15% to 25% of skippable online video ads are viewed to completion. That means, according to Wilson, 80% to 85% of skippable online video ads are skipped. And Wilson would know. His technology service that helps marketers make online video ad buys across a number of different inventory sources is consistently in Comscore’s monthly Top 10 Online Video Ad Properties. In April 2013, for instance, TubeMogul ranked 7th in the Us among similar companies with over 818 million video ads served. Wilson revealed the...

Australia's Essential Media and Entertainment and Us/Canadian production company 11 Television have joined forces to launch Essential 11 Media Group.
11 Television, which has opened offices in Los Angeles and Toronto to focus exclusively on factual entertainment formats, has the rights to all of Essential's factual formats and programs in North America while Essential will continue to produce factual, drama and kids content under its existing banner, as well as market its own drama shows in the Us.
The startup business, comprised of Essential boss Chris Hilton and 11 Television's veteran executive producers Kevin Healey and Jesse Fawcett, will provide a new avenue for Essential in the North American market.
"It's very difficult to get original formats up in Australia with the commercial channels or pay-tv and so one way around that is to create them in North America and make them hits over there and then bring them back," Essential's Chris Hilton said.

Canadian investor W. Brett Wilson will not return next year on the venture capitalist reality show Dragons' Den. CBC, the Canadian TV network that broadcasts the show, is now looking for a new "dragon" and that person will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Up until today, Wilson has been part of Dragons' Den for three seasons.
Apparently, CBC and Wilson haven't reached a common ground for the renewal of his contract.
All four other Dragons, Arlene Dickinson, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary and Jim Treliving are in place for next season.
Production on the sixth season will begin in spring. Pitchers’ auditions for season six are currently underway across Canada. For more details, visit http://www.cbc.ca/dragonsden/audition.

Victoria Westcott, a budding film producer from Victoria (British Columbia), wants to convince you to finance her first film Locked in a Garage Band on Kickstarter.com, a web site that allows artists to get funds for their project. Between two breaths, Ms. Westcott took the time to talk to The Cultural Post.
For this film about a garage band on the cusp of a breakup that inadvertently gets locked in a garage for a day, Victoria Westcott participates as a producer while her sister, Jennifer, will direct and write the story. “My sister, Jennifer, is a professional photographer with an M.A. in History. Since she won the 2009 Praxis Screenwriting Competition, I trust someone who is much better than me in writing.”
The two sisters once tried to get a $25,000 investment from Brett Wilson, a judge/investor on the venture capitalist reality show Dragons’ Den: “It was a contest...

The Canadian hit reality show Dragons' Den's fifth season will premiere on September 22 on CBC, a Canadian TV network. For this year, more than $20 million has been made in deals.
As always, the host will be economic journalist Dianne Buckner. As for the judges, who are among Canada's wealthiest entrepreneurs/venture capitalists, we'll still see investor Kevin O'Leary, marketing expert Arlene Dickinson, Jim Treliving (the owner of the Boston Pizza franchise), It security expert Robert Herjavec and energy tycoon W. Brett Wilson.
For those who don't know, the show's concept allows budding entrepreneurs to come in the den and present their idea to the five judges/investors. These budding entrepreneurs must describe their product/idea and say how much they need for a certain percentage in their product/idea.
