Whenever a certain franchise is popular there are bound to be references and parodies from all cross media. Star Wars is no acceptation to that rule. From movies such as Spaceballs and Thumb Wars poking fun at the scenarios to skits in Saturday Night Live there is always something to make sport of. Including in the form or materials meant for “older audiences”.
That is what comic creators Mike and Mindy Wheeler were doing. They were/are in the process of making a comic titled “Star Whores: Episode IV – A New Hoe”. A mature themed parody comic based on Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The couple have also produced mature parody comics in the past such as “Trip Story” (Toy Story) and “G-Busters” (Ghostbusters).

There is simply an unfathomable amount of heroic acts that Marvel’s Avengers have committed, with respect to effectively all of their different iterations. While live-action and animated adaptations often end up giving a sense of originality to these stories, the fact that there exists around 30,000 different comics arcs means that the source material will always be several steps ahead.
Two of the Avengers have been involved in bizarre storylines. | Marvel
Whatever movie and series fans see, the comic readers have already lived through, in a number of ways and with respect to effectively every character ever created. This also includes a range of not-so-mundane storylines that have also been a part of the narrative in the past.
For example, while each of the Avengers tends to be on the good side most of the time, they also end up making a number of mistakes, which may or may not...

Only '90s kids raised in video stores — or, more likely, their dads — will recall Luis Llosa's 1993 military thriller "Sniper" with any clarity. "Sniper" stars Tom Berenger as Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett as he becomes lost in the jungle while trying to complete an assassination mission with a militarily inexperienced sharpshooter played by Billy Zane. The bulk of the film takes place in the woods of Colombia, although it was shot in Australia. The film was well-liked but critics noted that it was pretty generic; Roger Ebert gave "Sniper" three stars, noting that it was competent but lacked originality. The film boasts a 38 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that comes from a mere 13 reviews.
What only fans of "Sniper" might know is that Tom Berenger returned to play Thomas Beckett in Craig R. Baxley's "Sniper 2" in 2002 and P.J. Pesce's "Sniper 3" in 2004. These two sequels...

It’s hard to believe that of All the action franchises that have come and gone over the years that the Sniper series would still be going strong some thirty, yes Thirty, years after the debut of the original film. Since that debut we’ve had ten films – this latest one, Sniper: G.R.I.T. included – all of which have adapted with the times yet have still managed to find a consistency that has kept audiences coming back time and again. It also helps that, since 2011’s fourth film Sniper: Reloaded, we’ve had a consistent lead in actor Chad Michael Collins, playing Brandon Beckett the son of Tom Berenger’s original lead Gunnery Sergeant Tom Beckett.

The ending of The Fall of the House of Usher is a rather depressing one. Not only because we have to say goodbye to the wonderful show and Flanagan’s stint with Netflix, but also because the show has a rather bleak ending. We’ve established that Verna is Lady Death herself, but we don’t know what the deal was that the twins struck with her in ‘79. On top of that, why did the kids have to die as a result of it? Auggie has been hearing Madeline in the basement this whole time, but she hasn’t shown up all night, which is very odd. On this one night, Auggie has felt cheated, threatened, and a little bit scared. This episode is titled “The Raven,” which seems like the most literal adaptation in the whole show. The poem is about a raven that visits a student grieving his lost love.

Spooky season is upon us, and as always, everyone wants to try their hand at providing some terrifying, bone-chilling content. Movies, shows, and documentaries are all fun, but watching people scream their lungs out because of fake props and fantastic makeup is a thrilling experience of its own. Just like Fear Factor, in Make Me Scream, we see participants compete by facing their fears, but the supernatural kind. Three teams compete to win the ultimate medal of honor, the Medal of Mayhem. Hosted by partners Darryl M. Bell and Tempestt Bledsoe, the show has three duos competing against each other in blood-churning mazes to get their hands on the medal or “die.” A scream meter measures their screams, along with some rules to help the best duo win. There's always that moment in zombie movies where one of the protagonists gets infected and his loved ones have to deal with the fact that someone they loved dearly is suddenly wants to eat their brains. But that's all it usually is, a moment. Then the heroes have to either man up and kill them or get eaten themselves. Festival circuit favorite "Make-Out With Violence," is like a 100-minute exploration of that moment. This is a zombie film turned inside out. Instead of following the typical arc of illness, epidemic, survival it uses that idea of someone coming back to life to tell a powerful story about loss and denial. You've never seen a zombie movie quite like this.
Make-Out With Violence
Directed by The Deagol Brothers
Tagline: Death Is the Present Tense
Tweetable Plot Synopsis: Twin brothers who've just graduated from high school find their friend who'd recently disappeared still alive.

As you read this I am quite possibly thousands of miles above you in a huge aluminum alloy vessel, travelling back to NYC. Nashville was a treat and I hope I get invited back to NaFF in some capacity. Here's a quick run down of the cinematic highlights for me. I was on the short film jury and didn't have a chance to see some of the narrative features so this is from a limited pool.

SXSW is one of my favorite festivals of the year as it showcases some of the best and most innovative real independent films, and with this host of world premiers, it's also playing alot of Sundance material as well as genre fare from all over the world, many of which we've covered heavily in these pages.
From the Sundance lineup, we have films like Moon, The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle, You Won't Miss Me, Grace, and Humpday, among others.
For the world genre material we've covered, there's Lake Mungo, The Square, Zift, and Awaydays.
I think you get the point that lots of great looking film will be playing. I'll leave a bit of the exploration to you..
Lineup after the break.
