In its latest expansive move, independent production house Nevision is opening offices in Barcelona, its first in Europe outside its London-based headquarters.
The Barcelona operation is headed by seasoned publisher, author, journalist and producer Tim Parfitt who will work with Nevision founder James Cabourne to develop scripted series in Spanish for both local and global markets, Nevision announced last week in a written statement.
First up are three projects, two with scribe-helmer Roger Guäl, who broke out with 2002’s “Smoking Room,” an acerbic take on office politics.
Parfitt has lived most of his life in Spain, being dispatched to Madrid in 1987 for six weeks to help launch Spanish Vogue. He ended up staying a decade and running the company as CEO of Ediciones Condé Nast, an experience he recounted in memoir “A Load of Bull – An Englishman’s Adventures in Madrid.” He moved to Barcelona in 2007, authoring art-detective crime thriller “The Barcelona Connection,...

Produced by Apoorva Bakshi and Monisha Thyagarajan’s Awedacious Originals in association with Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Purple Pebble Pictures, the documentary follows protagonist Srishti Bakshi on a walking pilgrimage across India – spanning 3,800 km over 240 days – to talk to women from various backgrounds about their struggles and dreams. “Women have borne the brunt of gender bias for far too long, enduring a silent struggle against entrenched social injustices that seek to suppress their voices. Welcome to Global Breakouts, Deadline’s fortnightly strand in which we shine a spotlight on the TV shows and films killing it in their local territories. The industry is as globalized as it’s ever been, but breakout hits are appearing in pockets of the world all the time and it can be hard to keep track… So we’re going to do the hard work for you.
This week we’re heading to Denmark, where a youth-skewing Coen Brothers-inspired crime drama has been dominating local broadcaster Dr’s streaming charts. Nordland ’99 follows the dark twists and turns of a teen friend group living in a small, provincial Danish town, and is the show that its creator wishes was on screen when he was growing up. With the once-thriving Danish TV sector mired in creative clashes and regulatory difficulty, we’ve shone a light on a very local success.

Sony has weaved a new trailer for Claire Foy-starrer The Girl In The Spider’s Web, offering a closer look at the titular outcast vigilante’s past. Check it out above. Fede Alvarez directs the adaptation of the novel by David Lagercrantz, who continued Stieg Larsson’s Millennium legacy with the bestseller. Steven Knight and Alvarez and Jay Basu wrote the screenplay.
Foy takes over as Lisbeth Salander, the defender who was previously played by Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara. In Spider’s Web, she and journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Borg Vs McEnroe‘s Sverrir Gudnason) find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials. The new trailer has echoes of the first which dropped in June and introduced “the girl who hurts men who hurt women.” It also offers further insight into the plot that involves Lisbeth’s family.

Claire Foy’s Lisbeth Salander certainly knows her way around a tangled web. In this new trailer for The Girl in the Spider’s Web — an adaptation of the bestseller from Stieg Larsson’s Millennium book series — vigilante Lisbeth snares her first creep with a simple but highly effective rope trick that would do any Batman villain proud.
Haunted by her past and driven by fury at abusive men (like the wife-beating CEO who gets caught up in Lisbeth’s top-of-the-trailer snare), the title character battles her way through any number of action-packed adventures in this first-look trailer.
Directed by Fede Alvarez (2016’s Don’t Breathe) from a screenplay adaptation by Steven Knight and Alvarez & Jay Basu, The Girl in the Spider’s Web also stars Sverrir Gudnason, Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund and Vicky Krieps.

After years of rumors regarding who, exactly, will be in a sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo — or if it will happen at all — Sony Pictures have now officially confirmed their plans. As reported last fall, Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez will be staying in business with the company to direct The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which Steven Knight (Locke, Eastern Promises) adapted from David Lagercrantz, but don’t expect to see any familiar faces.
Sony has announced today that the ensemble for this follow-up will be “entirely new” and a worldwide search has commenced to take over the Lisbeth Salander role, last played by Rooney Mara and Noomi Rapace. There had previously been rumors that Alicia Vikander was circling the part, but she has long been unattached, so with this global search underway, perhaps we’ll see some new talent fill out this cast.

In Mules, two antagonistic brothers decide to smuggle drugs into their native Iceland using a young Polish girl as their mule. When everything goes off the rails, the brothers’ fate spirals out of control in a life-or-death race against time.
Kormakur will produce the Icelandic-language thriller with fellow Rvk Studios producer Agnes Johansen (Virgin Mountains).
Co-producers are Anni Faurbye Fernandez (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Headhunters) and Stinna Lassen (The Team) for Good Company Films in Denmark and Mimmi Spång (Call Girl) and Rebecka Lefrenz (Call Girl) for Garage Film in Sweden.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment recently revealed that they will be releasing David Fincher's highly acclaimed film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on Blu-ray and DVD on March 20th, 2012.
This was a hell of a great film. Fincher did an amazing job adapting it for the big screen. But, I didn't think it was his best work. I might have enjoyed it more had I not already seen the Swedish films and read the books. It would have made the viewing experience so much more intense if I didn't know what happened. But that goes for every book that I've read and every remake I've seen.
One of the things I look forward to most with Fincher's films is the behind the scenes featurettes and documentaries. I love watching how he goes about creating his movies. The studio plans on releasing the Blu-ray and DVD on March 20th...

In theaters on December 21st, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first film in Columbia Pictures’ and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy. Directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film is based on the first novel in the trilogy, which altogether have sold 65 million copies in 46 countries and become a worldwide phenomenon.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo introduced readers to financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and avenging hacker Lisbeth Salander. With Salander, Larsson forged a heroine unlike any who had come before in the wide-ranging world of crime thrillers – a punk prodigy whose appearance warns people to stay away, who doesn’t interact “normally” with others, yet whose personal link to those who have been violated lures her into helping Mikael solve the disappearance of Harriet Vanger. Her pursuit of retribution and her tenuous partnership...
