FuboTV is having its “The Facebook” moment.
The sports-centric live-tv streaming platform shall henceforth be known only as “Fubo,” the company announced Tuesday. The rebrand “reflects the company’s emphasis on efficient growth,” a press release reads.
It’s a quote that means nothing, really, beyond the argument that saying and writing “Fubo” is less time consuming than saying and writing “FuboTV.”
Also, as Fubo co-founder and CEO David Gandler said Tuesday, it’s the shorthand their customers were already using. We buy that part, but as one Fubo insider told IndieWire, it also just sounds a lot cooler. You know, like “A billion dollars” in “The Social Network.”
The new campaign, which stars NBA legend Kevin Garnett with former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez and fetures the tagline “If Sports Fans Built a Streaming Service,” is co-produced by Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Prods. Reynolds, who just made a mint selling Mint to T-Mobile,...

FuboTV is removing the “TV” from its name, touting the rebrand with a national ad campaign created by Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort. The ads are co-productions that are part of a larger partnership between the companies.
The promo push stresses Fubo’s sports DNA, mobilizing former NBA great (and Uncut Gems star) Kevin Garnett as well as ex-NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez as spokesmen. All three new spots use the tagline, “If sports fans built a streaming service” and are beginning to roll out during the World Baseball Classic and ahead of next week’s start of the Major League Baseball season. (Watch one spot with Garnett above.)
The campaign spots are described as co-productions with Maximum Effort, part of a multi-year partnership between the companies. The deal includes the launch of the Maximum Effort Channel, a linear network on Fubo, as part of an exclusive first-look for unscripted TV...

As it tries to reverse a tide of red ink, FuboTV is rebranding its internet pay-tv service Fubo — and the company unveiled a new brand campaign co-produced with Maximum Effort, the advertising and production company headed by Ryan Reynolds, who’s an investor in Fubo.
Fubo’s new nationwide ad campaign features NBA champion and Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett (pictured above) and former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez, with the tagline, “If Sports Fans Built a Streaming Service.” The multiplatform campaign comprises a series of 15- and 30-second TV spots and digital display ads.
Maximum Effort, co-founded by Reynolds and George Dewey, owns $10 million worth of shares in Fubo under a multiyear, first-look deal for unscripted content the production company inked with Fubo.

As far as rebrands go, this should be one of the easiest to remember in recent memory. This week, fuboTV announced it was changing its name, dropping the “TV” and capitalizing the F. Henceforward, the service will be known simply as Fubo, which is generally what its users always called it anyway.

The best-known live TV streaming service for sports streaming is getting a rebrand, well, kind of. Don’t worry though, users won’t have to remember a new name. fuboTV is dropping the “TV” and permanently capitalizing the first letter to simply be known as “Fubo” — which is what a lot of people called it already.

Fubo is going all-out to ensure that potential customers know it’s the same service, even if its branding looks a little different. Those efforts will be spearheaded by a new ad campaign starring 15-time NBA All-Star, NBA champion and Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, and veteran NFL quarterback and commentator Mark Sanchez; the campaign is co-produced by Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Productions.
“fuboTV has grown in size and scope, with multiple brands under our global umbrella, since we launched our core cable TV replacement product in 2015,” Fubo co-founder and CEO David Gandler said.

The Masked Singer is getting a new host — temporarily, at least.
Niecy Nash will stand in for Nick Cannon fronting the first batch of episodes of the Fox competition reality series after the entertainer contracted Covid-19, Deadline has confirmed.
This comes as production on Season 5 is set to start Thursday in Los Angeles. The show is set to return in March. Cannon is expected to return for later episodes once he recovers.
Nash has history with the network; she was a guest panelist on The Masked Singer last season and was a panelist on I Can See Your Voice, the network’s other mystery talent format, and has appeared in Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Scream Queens, The Bernie Mac Show and Family Guy.
Season 4 wrapped in December with LeAnn Rimes as the winner. That season featured 16 contestants, including the show’s first duet costume with Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black as the Snow Owls,...

“The Masked Singer” ended its fourth season tonight with the crowning of a new winner of the show’s Golden Mask trophy — and the first winner of its Golden Ear trophy.
As viewers who have been keeping up with the show already know, “The Masked Singer” introduced the Golden Ear trophy at the start of Season 4, with host Nick Cannon explaining that one panelist — either Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger or Robin Thicke — would win the prize at the end of the season based on who had the most correct “first impression” guesses by the finale.
On Wednesday’s two-hour season closer, we learned that McCarthy had won the coveted prize — well, less coveted than the Golden Mask trophy, but pretty important to the judges competing for it. The overall competition was won by Sun, who...

Can the crooning Crocodile come from behind and eat up the competition on his way to the coveted Golden Mask trophy on “The Masked Singer”? After the Seahorse swam past him on her way to the Super Six by earning the most votes in the Group B finals, the bedazzled amphibian advanced along with her by placing second. Now the Crocodile is within striking distance of a Season 4 victory.
The Crocodile first crawled onto the stage in Episode 2, singing “It’s My Life” by the rock group Bon Jovi. His natural stage presence and familiar, raspy vocals led the panelists to believe the cold-blooded singer was from a boy band. In Episode 4 the Crocodile proved he was an all-around entertainer when he busted out some serious dance moves to Britney Spears‘ hit “Toxic.” He slowed things down for the Group B finals, showing a more vulnerable side as he belted out “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis,...

Emotions ran high on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer” when the Serpent was unmasked and revealed to be viral singing sensation and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Elvis Francois. Typically jovial panelist Ken Jeong burst into tears, stating, “Your version of ‘Imagine’ got us through the pandemic. That living room concert you did on Fox, in a concert of stars like Elton John, Billy Joe Armstrong, everybody. The best moment of that living room concert was you. You just got us through a very difficult time and we love you so much.”

The elimination of Whatchamacallit on Wednesday night’s Group B finals of “The Masked Singer” was the most shocking of Season 4, but not because the hairy beast was expected to advance. Minds were blown because consistently off-base panelist Ken Jeong was the only one who correctly guessed NBA star Lonzo Ball was hiding beneath the mask. “Oh my God, I love you!” Ken screamed in disbelief while standing on top of his chair. “The Masked Singer” is whittling down its Season 4 contestants, dropping two more with a double elimination at the end of tonight’s Group B finals.
The hour saw Serpent, Whatchamacallit, Crocodile and Seahorse perform once more, all competing for a shot to join the “Super Six” bracket that will bring together contestants from Groups A, B and C.
After those four hidden celebs performed, it was time for panelists Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke — as well as guest judge Cheryl Hines and “The Masked Singer” super fans voting from home — to pick their favorite singers to stay. They chose Seahorse and Crocodile, which meant Serpent and Whatchamacallit were deemed the weakest performers and unmasked.

Nicole Scherzinger is using a wild method to guess the identity of an even wilder contestant on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer.”
In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak-peek clip from tomorrow’s Group B finals, Scherzinger tells her fellow judges and guest panelist Cheryl Hines that she thinks the marshmallow clue they just received about Whatchamacallit is the key to discovering his true identity.
“We saw the whistle, made me think of the NBA. So I’m thinking basketball players, right?… We saw marshmallows, makes me think of a name that I know. Carmelo Anthony from the Portland Trail Blazers!”
When host Nick Cannon jokes that Whatchamacallit might be too short to match up with the 6-foot, 8-inch NBA player, Scherzinger points out that the contestant’s one eyeball is pretty high up on his head.

The first six celebrities have been eliminated on Season 4 of “The Masked Singer,” but fans at home are really only upset about one of them: Busta Rhymes as Dragon.
