One of the things about modern Hollywood is that sometimes, if you want something to happen, you have just do it yourself — a lesson “Castle” and “Firefly” star Nathan Fillion has learned more than once.
In the video game world, one of the industry’s most popular franchises is the “Uncharted” series, a swashbuckling adventure series reminiscent of a modern-day “Indiana Jones.” It’s a premise that seems ripe for adaptation — it’s certainly more accessible than the high concept weirdness of “Assassin’s Creed.” But efforts to adapt the series to film have floundered, despite many high profile directors being involved, including Seth Gordon, Neil Burger, and David O. Russell.
While the games use the talents of motion capture and voice artist Nolan North to bring its protagonist to life, Fillion has been a fan favorite to play the main role of Nathan Drake in an on-screen adaptation (a...

With barely any warning, a short fan film on the video game Uncharted, starring Nathan Fillion, debuted on YouTube yesterday.
Fillion stars as the game’s central character, Nathan Drake. The film runs for about 15 minutes and also features Stephen Lang as Sully, Micrea Monroe as Elena, Geno Segers as Diego, and Ernie Reyes Jr. as El Tigre. You can watch it below.
Though no trailer nor even a formal announcement preceded the short film’s release, The Next Web pointed out that Fillion teased it subtly on his Instagram over the past week. For instance, he posted a picture of maps and a magnifying glass with the caption “7/16/18” (the short’s release date) several days ago.
Fillion produced the Uncharted fan film with Allan Ungar, Jesse Wheeler, Bruno Marino, and Louis Sallerson, while Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce executive produced. Wheeler and Ungar wrote the film.

Apparently (at least according to the blurb on the front cover) based on a true story, Grave Halloween is the latest movie from director Steven R. Monroe – yes he of I Spit on Your Grave 1 & 2 fame – who returns to making TV movies for the Syfy channel (I really liked Mongolian Death Worm Fyi) with this, a J-horror inspired slice of mediocrity that tries to mix American and Japanese filmic ideals, never quite meshing the two together well enough to be a complete success.
Deep in stark woodland at the base of Mount Fuji, restless whispers echo as the light fades on a mid-winter afternoon. Here, amongst a maze of roots, a lone figure takes her life, binding...

This year’s Blood List has named the 13 best genre scripts around town, and in its sixth year the annual screenplay contest is expanding its scope to include hot books, TV pilots, and young scribes ripe for signing. Taking top honors in 2014 is sci-fi thriller Bird Box from The Thing and Final Destination 5 scribe Eric Heisserer, an apocalyptic tale of a woman trying to lead her children to safety – all three blindfolded – after monsters descend on earth that turn people insane on sight. Universal set Heisserer to adapt the manuscript from Josh Malerman in 2013 for Mama helmer Andy Muschietti. Previous Blood List alumni include Black Swan, Stoker, Warm Bodies, and the upcoming Blumhouse thriller The Boy Next Door.
Like the Black List naming the top unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood, the genre-focused Blood List taps exec votes to determine each year’s best unmade horror, sci-fi, and thriller scripts.

Does the zombie genre have anything new to offer? I say no, but then again I'm not a filmmaker. The only way a zombie movie can stand out in a genre crowded with the undead is to do what it does better than everyone else. The movie needs to compete with the goriest (Dead Alive), the scariest (28 Days Later (not technically zombies, I know)), or the funniest (Return of the Living Dead (yes it is funnier than Shaun of the Dead)) zombie movies already out there. But what do you do if your budget consists of little more than pocket change and your cast and crew consists solely of amateurs? And if that isn't bad enough, what do you do if you're Canadian? If you're writer/director Rob Grant you invite all your friends and neighbors to work on the movie both in front of the camera and behind, and you pool everyone's pocket change together into...
