With a global box office total of $874.5 million, Todd Phillips’ Joker currently stands as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, beating out last year’s Deadpool 2 for the top spot. And while some Marvel fans may be counting on Wade Wilson eventually reclaiming the number one slot with a third solo outing, actress Zazie Beetz has now offered her own pitch for a project that sees the Merc with a Mouth and the Clown Prince of Crime on the same team.
In a recent Instagram post, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld observed that Beetz now features in the two highest-grossing R-rated films, calling her “[t]he secret ingredient for success.” In her reply, the Domino actress joked that the time is right for these two comic book worlds to finally collide, and even found a way of bringing Ryan Reynolds’ Detective Pikachu into the conversation:

We seem to be getting ever closer to Deadpool 3 officially being announced, bringing the Merc with a Mouth into the Marvel Cinematic Universe at last. Ryan Reynolds has been meeting with Marvel Studios and the writers are waiting on Kevin Feige to give the go-ahead before they start working on the script, but the smart money is on the third installment in the R-rated superhero franchise being revealed in the not too distant future.
While it remains to be seen how a fourth-wall breaking, foul-mouthed character like Deadpool will fit into the decidedly family-friendly McU, with the backing of the biggest studio in the industry and the most successful franchise in the history of cinema, there’s every chance that Wade Wilson will benefit from some brand synergy and interact with some of the McU’s established names. Before David Leitch was hired to replace Tim Miller as the director of Deadpool 2, Miller, who directed the first one, was planning his version of the sequel. Miller ultimately ended up parting ways with Fox on the film due to creative differences.
We now have more of an idea of what Miller was planning, and those plans included bringing Fantastic Four’s The Thing into the story! While appearing on the Fourth Wall podcast, Miller revealed a few details about his scrapped Deadpool sequel.
In regards to The Thing, he would have shown up in the epic climactic final battle with The Juggernaut. That would have certainly been a crazy cool plot twist! I think fans would have flipped over it, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Concept artist Alexander Lozano previously shared some concept art that he whipped up for Miller that included all the members of the Fantastic Four.

Strip away the superhero shenanigans and X-Men DNA and Deadpool is not too dissimilar to the Zombieland franchise. Hell, Wade Wilson is essentially a zombie thanks to his miraculous healing abilities.
The two franchises share another thing in common, too: screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who are partly to blame for Double Tap‘s long spell in development limbo. They were busy, of course, given Wernick and Reese have spent the past five years launching the Merc With a Mouth into the stratosphere, during which time Ryan Reynolds became an Internet favorite (if he wasn’t already) for his pitch-perfect performance as Deadpool.
And it turns out Reynolds almost had a cameo role in Zombieland: Double Tap a la Bill Murray. But, sadly, it wasn’t to be: Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have held their hands up to admit that they “let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

As of last month, the Deadpool franchise is officially a Disney property, giving the Mouse House the legal go-ahead to bring Wade Wilson into the McU. But while the Merc with a Mouth’s solo outings have so far been a fair bit bloodier and more profanity-laden than your average Marvel Studios flick, producer Kevin Feige seemingly has no intention of changing what works about the series.
In an interview with Variety, the Marvel Studios head observed that the Deapool franchise is doing pretty well for itself these days, arguing that he doesn’t need to fix what isn’t broken.
“When we were purchased, Bob said to us, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,’” Feige said. “There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?”

The killer success of Fox’s Deadpool franchise has made subversive superheroes and R-rated comic book adaptations all the rage in Hollywood so it’s no surprise to find a wave of elite assassins and lab-created warriors following in his ultra-violent footsteps. What is surprising, however, is how many of the characters have sound-alike names and similar backstories. Below is our “who’s who” index of five comic book properties that are gunning for Hollywood hits but may find themselves in a brand-name crossfire in a marketplace crowded with high-caliber competition.

Imagine for a very brief moment that the Disney-Fox merger occurred long before Avengers: Endgame entered development – what would that look like?
Would we now be anticipating the cinematic equivalent of the Avengers Vs. X-Men? Or would the superhero movie landscape closely resemble what we see before us today? It’s impossible to know for sure, but over on Reddit, a clever fan edit has emerged which places the Merc With a Mouth alongside Captain Marvel and Thor Odinson.
Embedded below, you’ll no doubt notice this scene from Endgame‘s latest trailer, in which the God of Thunder is attempting to startle Carol Danvers, the latest recruit to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Of course, it doesn’t work – it would take more than a flying ax to spook Captain Marvel, given her near-limitless abilities.
It’s a fun scene nonetheless, but this fan edit makes it so...

Worst superhero ever, no butts about it. A teaser for Deadpool 2 is airing before fellow Marvel movie Logan and the footage was released this week. It shows Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the red and black badass whose good intentions just...take way too damn long. The teaser runs like a mini-movie and shows Reynolds' Wade Wilson seeing an elderly man get attacked by a mugger. He ducks into a phone booth and channels Superman as John Williams' famous theme from the 1878 film Superman: The Movie plays. But unlike the Man of Steel, he is not wearing his Deadpool costume under his clothes and it takes him forever to put it on. So we get a lengthy naked butt...

It's a common complaint that X-Men films and continuity hardly walk hand in hand. But is this really a problem?
Ten years ago, superhero films were fairly ubiquitous, but they also tended to exist in vacuums of their own franchises with little to link them beyond the occasional Daredevil/Elektra mishap. The ways in which Marvel changed the industry are well documented, and now in 2017 the superhero film landscape is essentially dominated by three mega franchises: the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe and Fox’s long-running X-Men series.

As the day swiftly approaches that Logan hits theaters and Hugh Jackman hangs up his adamantium claws for good, some fans have been desperately hoping for one last chance to see Wolverine and Deadpool on screen together. (I mean, they’ve technically been on screen together before, but we don’t like to talk about that.) Most of that has focused on the possibility of a Wolverine cameo in Deadpool 2, but it seems like there was once a chance for Wade Wilson to pop up in Logan. Director James Mangold told We Got This Covered:
“There were times early on in the story where I played with the idea of Hugh coming along, and I don’t want to give away anything, but I played with there being an underground railroad where there were a couple of other mutants that he met on the journey. It always seemed to...

When you have a canvas that's as large as the entire mutant universe associated with the X-Men, it can be pretty tough to decide which characters to use in your films. That's the conundrum that has faced previous directors like Bryan Singer, Brett Ratner. Matthew Vaughn, Gavin Hood, James Mangold, and Tim Miller, who have all made films in the X-Men Cinematic Universe (Xcu). Some have succeeded, while others have failed.
In the early years, when Singer was the sole captain of the X-ship, restraint was the name of the game. The director was very adamant about only including characters that served the story, and not merely just throwing a ton of fan service at the screen. Then that philosophy seemingly went out the window when he left the franchise. The two films that followed his departure, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, both featured far more mutants yet yielded far less results.

Will 2017 be the year a superhero movie with fart jokes gets an Oscar nod? Though just about everyone in Hollywood would be surprised to hear “Deadpool” announced as an Academy Award nominee later this month, director Tim Miller’s comic book adaptation has exceeded expectations time and again since its release last February. Few people would have guessed a movie released a week before the 2016 Academy Awards would be part of the Oscar conversation a year later, let alone a long-gestating tale about a superhero obsessed with chimichangas.
Ryan Reynolds’ pet project for nearly a decade, “Deadpool” follows Marvel’s most unconventional anti-hero: Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative given superhuman healing powers after a malicious experiment that almost destroys his life. Made for $50 million, the movie grossed nearly $800 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the highest-earning R-rated movie of all time (and the highest-grossing 20th Century Fox...

Not exactly shocking news, but according to data compiled by TorrentFreak, Deadpool was 2016's most pirated film. With a year that saw Captain America: Civil War, The Force Awakens (came out in Dec '05) and other strong box office showings it's no small feat. Some high fives are definitely owed to 20th Century Fox, Ryan Reynolds, Director Tim Miller, as well as the cast and crew. Let's just hope this doesn't lead anyone to slouch on the sequel. Oh, and since pirating movies is illegal, I doubt we'll see a celebratory speech from Fox.
Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and...

A few lesser known films, television shows and actors, however, pulled some unexpected nods (congrats to Sing Street and Aaron Taylor-Johnson!).
Here’s who will have – and who should have had – a chance at a Golden Globe award on Jan. 8.

Although the Oscar winner was recognized for his acting in Fences, his directing work for the 1950s-set drama failed to secure him a nomination or a best motion picture drama honor.

X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters, and brings with it a predictable level of -- in film -- catastrophic events. The demolishment of iconic monuments has become so old hat that Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson quips, "they like to get the landmarks," in the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer. The unfortunate result of the overuse of grand-scale destruction in film is that both we, the audience, and seemingly the filmmakers themselves have become numb to the intended impact. So much so that director Bryan Singer demonstrated just how tone-deaf both he and the studio had become when they featured Magneto destroying the remains of the Auschwitz concentration camps in X-Men: Apocalypse. It's one thing to drown London bridge for the umpteenth time in a film, but there are certain places that stand sacred. We preserve and honor them because they hold within them the memories that are meant to teach us to be and do better.

The success of 20th Century Fox's Deadpool this weekend is sure to send shockwaves throughout the industry, as the film shattered certain preconceived notions. I think we need to take a few moments to really digest exactly what's gone down here, as it's fairly remarkable.
Let's stack up where Deadpool stands compared to the first films of Hollywood's other modern day favorite superheroes, in terms of opening weekends.
[Bar Graph That Annoyingly Doesn't Show On The Mobile Version of The Site That Demonstrates The Things I'm Going To Mention Below. Long Story Short: Deadpool did better than everyone you can think of in their modern era debut films.]
Yes. You're seeing that correctly. Deadpool did better business in its opening weekend than pop culture icons like Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man- all considered to be among the most recognizable fictional characters on the planet earth. And in terms of the vaunted faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you'd have to add up two of their Phase One solo films (three if you exclude Iron Man) to top Deadpool.
But that's not all...
The figures for Fox's flick are even more stunning...

In a chat with Hey U Guys, the writers of Fox's upcoming X-Men Universe film, Deadpool, opened up a bit about their work on the hotly anticipated flick. It opens on Friday, but that's after nearly seven years of work on it to make it a reality. The early buzz for the film is very strong, and it looks like those years may have led to a movie that's going to bear a lot of fruit in the way of sequels and even an X-force movie. While everyone's very excited about the project now, the writers spoke candidly about how they walked into the project without even having heard of Deadpool before.
Here are comments, related to that, from both writers:
"Rhett Reese: We hate to admit it, but we had never even heard of Deadpool. But we read comics as children and not as adults and we’re...

This week, Deadpool will be unleashed on the masses (that are old enough to get into an R-rated movie) after what seems like an awful long time in development.

Until Deadpool is something everyone’s gotten to see, best to not spoil the nitty gritty, the call backs or discuss the mystery of something called Feige’s Pizzeria appearing in the movie. With spoilers, we look at the questions raised and left behind by the new Deadpool movie...
In contrast to Marvel Studios’ tightly-wound movies, Fox’s X-Men franchise likes to play fast and loose with its material. What that means is that if you’ve just seen Deadpool, you might have a few questions about it. And we’ve tried to guess what they might be so that we can answer them in advance.
Fair warning, though: This is very spoilery. For both the comics and the movie. Only scroll past the image if you’re willing to have plot points explained to you rather than discover them yourself.
1. How does this movie connect to the continuity of his previous appearance?
The short version to this question is that it doesn’t. In fact, you could easily argue that Deadpool is taking place on its own island of continuity.

Fox’s X-Men franchise has been around for 16 years now, and lately the studio has shown a surprising willingness to deviate from formula and expectations. From the broad sci-fi of X-Men: Days Of Future Past to the (largely) grounded action of The Wolverine, it’s tough to know what to expect of the X-Men franchise in terms of storytelling or quality. And that goes double for Deadpool, a character who proves divisive on the page and has already appeared in the one X-Men franchise disappointment (2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
Despite this, Ryan Reynolds is back as the wise-cracking, gun-toting, hyperviolent mercenary with a penchant for one-liners, having pledged to do the character justice the second time around. It’s fair to say that he manages it. Probably the best praise you can give this...

Holy F#*King Sh%T You Guys. F#Ck Every Other Superhero Movie. I’m glad I wore my white pants to Deadpool.
Let’s face it. Today’s Marvel-dominated cinematic superheroes are becoming more familiar by the film, as over-loaded origin stories blur together in an orgy of tights, abs, and conflicted emotions. Netflix is raising the stakes between Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but Marvel’s squeaky-clean treatment of figures like Captain America is growing a tad stale. It’s become a constant parade of seeing how many side-characters a director can jam in their third sequel of whatever property is hot right now, as the focus shifts from serving a single story best, to caring how “X” hero can interact twenty films from now.
Thankfully, that’s not Deadpool.
Earth’s least sympathetic “hero” revels in taking a steamy piss on unfortunate shifts in studio norms. He’s foul-mouthed,...

If you asked me this time last year what I thought a Deadpool movie would bring in on its opening weekend, I would've guessed around $25 million domestically. While I loved the idea of Deadpool, he didn't really have the name recognition of, say...any other superhero hitting the big screen. But Marvel's made do with some of their lesser known properties before (I'm looking at you, Guardians Of The Galaxy), and as far as marketing goes, Deadpool seems to be making all the right moves. He just may be able to overcome obscurity by sheer personality alone.
As of this writing, Fox and Marvel are currently tracking Deadpool to make $55 million domestically on its opening weekend, THR reports. The film will be opening against movies like Zoolander 2 and How To Be Single on February 12 (a.k.a Valentine's Day weekend), and surprisingly enough, according to the outlet, the film...

20th Century Fox held special screening events in New York and Los Angeles last night for an early unfinished cut of Deadpool, and Twitter was flooded with reactions from fans who were lucky enough to watch the movie! Pretty much all of the reactions that I came across were positive, so for those of you who were hoping for a great Deadpool movie, it looks like we're all in luck! It was also confirmed that there will be an post-credits scene, so make sure to stick around after the credit roll! There's no information on what the end credits will entail, but I'm sure it'll be great! Here's a collection of Tweets that you can read through.

Time to finally dig out that mouldy Lycra cosplay outfit: after over 10 years in the making, a real, actual Deadpool film will finally arrive in 2016.
Better still, Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Wade Wilson - while simultaneously trying to forget his earlier X-Men Origins: Wolverine appearance. The story will revolve around his birth through the top secret Weapon X military programme, and a conflict with fellow Weapon X-er Ajax. But the real star of the show? Guns, bad puns, and Deadpool breaking the fourth wall like a boss.
Digital Spy was fortunate to be hustled over to the Vancouver set to meet the cast and crew. Here's what we learned about Fox's X-Men spinoff...

Deadpool is definitely shaping up to be one of the most faithful comic book adaptations of all time, and Ed Skrein maintains this was always the intention going in. The former Game Of Thrones actor will play the movie's bad guy (well, this is Wade Wilson we're talking about so let's say "antagonist") Ajax, and says he thinks they have created "the first post-modern Hollywood superhero movie", and that he hopes studios take a similar approach with some of their "less marketable" characters. But what of his character? Will this big screen take on Ajax be faithful to the Marvel Comics version? It definitely sounds like he will be - at least to his initial appearances. However, those hoping to see an Ott armored-up Ajax might be disappointed, as will anyone expecting the movie to go into the details of his origin story. "No, we don't go too deep into Ajax's backstory.

Ryan Reynolds's Deadpool is the film we never thought we'd see. 20th Century Fox kept the X-Men spinoff in limbo for years, and after his less than auspicious on-screen debut (more on that below), things didn't look good for Marvel Comics' 'Merc with a Mouth'.

After some footage of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool shooting thugs, cracking jokes, and doing a little dance to Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” leaked at last year’s San Diego Comic Con, fan anticipation has increased for Deadpool, which got an official release date and a supporting cast in the past year.

After making an auspicious debut on HBO’s Game of Thrones, Ed Skrein is fast cementing his grip on the big screen, with roles as the lead in this fall’s The Transporter: Refueled and Ajax in next year’s Deadpool.

Talking to MTV News earlier today, Game of Thrones alum Ed Skrein revealed some new details about the villainous Ajax in Deadpool. His name is Ajax; or Francis. He went through the same Weapon X programme as Wolverine and Deadpool," the actor confirmed, revealing a tie to the X-Men (with X-Men Origins: Wolverine no longer canon, could this be where Hugh Jackman cameos?). San Diego - There is no debate who won Comic-Con on Saturday. It wasn't the man in the bat suit vs. the Man of Steel. It wasn't those marvelous mutants who continue to reboot themselves in new and interesting ways. No, a Merc with a Mouth took the convention by storm and his name is "Deadpool." Assuming you never saw "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" or haven't followed the twists and turns of how long its taken star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller to get this solo movie off the ground, "Deadpool" will be something of a shock. The popular Marvel Comics character has always been aligned with the mutant universe, but he also has an offbeat sense of humor that often finds him breaking the fourth wall. It’s not necessarily the most commercially safe material and would make any studio have second thoughts. To those around him Deadpool is...

Sneak Peek the origins of Marvel Comics' super-villain 'Ajax', on the news that he appears in the currently shooting "Deadpool" feature, played by actor Ed Skrein ("Game Of Thrones"):
Ajax debuted in Marvel's "Deadpool" #14 (March, 1998), created by writer Joe Kelly and illustrator Walter McDaniel, as the former enforcer @ the 'Workshop', part of a Hospice for failed supersoldiers of the 'Weapon X Project', including 'Wade Wilson' aka 'Deadpool'.
After being modified Francis possessed enhanced strength, intuitive capacity, and after receiving implants, super speed and agility. His nerves were also removed to dramatically increase his tolerance for pain.
Using the codename 'Ajax', Francis eventually hunted down and killed many of the surviving members from the Weapon X project, specifically targeting the wise-cracking Deadpool.

Ed Skrein will play Ajax in the upcoming Deadpool movie.
The Game of Thrones actor - who joined the cast of the X-Men film in January - will portray the villainous character opposite Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
In the original comics, Ajax first appears as a man named Francis who works as an enforcer at the hospital where the Weapon X programme operates. After having his nerves removed, Francis serves in the 'washouts' of the programme, including Wade Wilson/Deadpool.
After trying to eliminate Wilson, the latter appears to kill Francis, before he later reappears as Ajax, now seeking to kill all former members of the Weapon X programme.

One of the earliest cast members announced for the Deadpool movie was Ed Skrein. The former Game Of Thrones alum, who exited that show to head up the new Transporter series, was long thought to be playing one of Deadpool’s various adversaries. Considering the Merc with a Mouth’s long list of enemies, the possibilities were endless, with the most popular fan theory positing that Skrein was to play Garrison Kane aka Weapon X. In light of Skrein’s Twitter post this morning, the role of Kane is still up for grabs, as his actual onscreen monicker can clearly be seen on his chair (and in the hashtag):

Ryan Reynolds’ performance as fast-talkin’ Wade Wilson in the lacklustre X-Men Origins: Wolverine is arguably the film’s highlight. Across his entirely-too-short screentime, Reynolds catapults between the quippy ‘merc with a mouth’ Wilson to the Project X-powered Deadpool. He’s an absolute riot to watch, and hordes of Deadpool fans went public with that same opinion. So much so that the leaked footage from a canceled Deadpool spinoff movie incited such tremendous fan support that it eventually received the greenlight from Fox.
Speaking out in an interview with Shortlist, Reynolds addressed the status of the movie and how fan approval is one of the driving factors behind production:
“I’m incredibly happy about it — we’ve got a director that understands that world and writers with a slavish devotion to the canon of that character. That’s the most important aspect: it’s made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace.

Welcome to a special edition of our news round-up, this time focusing on three comic book adaptations. The female lead in the Deadpool movie has been cast, the voice actors for Star-Lord/Peter Quill, Drax, Groot, and Rocket have been revealed for Disney Xd's Guardians of the Galaxy animated series (and fans of Boy Meets World and Batman Beyond should be very pleased with the Quill casting), and it's been announced that a Dreadstar TV series is in the works with the creator of the comic book series, Jim Starlin, executive producing and writing the project.
Deadpool: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra from Firefly and Serenity, Homeland, Gotham) will play the female lead in the upcoming Ryan Reynolds-starring Deadpool movie. The name of Baccarin's character has not yet been revealed, so it's unknown if she'll play a character from the Marvel comic book universe.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Homeland star Morena Baccarin has bagged the female lead in Fox’s Deadpool spinoff. The Firefly actress appeared last week on an early shortlist, and in the last seven days, she beat out fellow hopefuls Taylor Schilling, Crystal Reed, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Sarah Greene and Jessica De Gouw.
THR had no clarification on exactly who Baccarin will portray, but simply described her as a love interest for Ryan Reynolds’ scarred assassin. The Merc with a Mouth – as he’s affectionately referred to – will be joined on his first standalone flick by a strong, supporting cast. Alongside Baccarin, we’ll see Silicon Valley’s T.J. Miller in the comedy sidekick role, Game Of Thrones‘ Ed Skrein as the film’s villain, and Haywire‘s Gina Carano as a member of the Morlocks, Angel Dust.

In case it somehow slipped your mind, a Deadpool movie is finally on its way to the silver screen at long last, with Ryan Reynolds on board to play the Merc with a Mouth. And today, we bring you news that production is set to get underway in late March when the cameras will begin rolling in the actor’s hometown of Vancouver.
This will be the character’s first appearance on the big screen since Reynolds’ outing as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and it’s still unclear as to whether Fox will remain true to the source material and push for an R-rated film or, on the other hand, opt for a PG-13 classification. In saying that, there’s every chance that director Tim Miller will film for each rating, and release the more controversial scenes via an uncut Blu-Ray edition.

The first two actors whose names are being thrown around are Tj Miller (Silicon Valley, Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Ed Skrein, the guy who left Game of Thrones to take over the Transporter franchise with The Transporter Legacy.
Miller is being eyed for the funny man role, which makes sense since he played that three times this year (Big Hero 6 and How To Train Your Dragon 2 in addition to Transformers).
It would stand to reason that Skrein would be a villain capable of standing up to the Merc with a Mouth. ...

It was unlikely Fox would cast...
