The Fake Sheikh, a three-part docuseries released by Amazon, could compete with any of Netflix’s top-notch docuseries. More than just an information dump, this series has proven to be a great exploration of a gripping narrative and a cinematic reconstruction based on the story. The narrative is centered on British journalist Mazher Mahmood’s rise to prominence through his brilliant but questionable investigative journalism and his eventual fall from grace. The Fake Sheikh is an important story that portrays a common man’s ambition to reach the sky, and his failure due to his inability to commit to truth and honesty.

The formidable task of tracking down the six child stars of Slumdog Millionaire for The Hollywood Reporter's Oscars Issue would have been impossible without the cooperation of Danny Boyle. The director of the enchanting film -- which went on to gross $378 million worldwide and win eight Oscars -- helped facilitate the involvement of Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail, the two children from the poorest of backgrounds. Natural talents discovered by Boyle when they were 9 years old and living in the slums of Mumbai, their difficult transition back to civilian life would later become the target of much controversy. Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali is moving into a new apartment, seven months after her family home was burned down in Mumbai, India.
The actress was forced to flee the Garib Nagar slum as the blaze, which left 21 people injured and 2,000 homeless, broke out in March.
She lost all the awards and newspaper clippings she had saved from her role in the Danny Boyle movie, but she has reason to smile again after the director's Jai Ho Trust found a new property in Mumbai for her family.

A controversial project to bulldoze Dharavi, the giant shanty town that formed the backdrop to Slumdog Millionaire, is reviving the fortunes of extremist parties
Ninety Feet Road runs through the middle of Dharavi, the area in the centre of Mumbai notorious for being southern Asia's largest slum. The street's name comes from its width – it is the broadest thoroughfare among the congested mass of homes, tenements, workshops and alleyways made famous by the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
It has seen many battles, but few as acrimonious as this most recent fight: to claim the credit, money, power and votes that will come from levelling much of the neighbourhood in a multibillion-pound slum clearance programme.
The battle is heating up with the approach of civic elections in India's commercial capital in under a year. At stake is not just the future of Dharavi, but also lucrative building contracts and the survival...

For over a year, there have been sporadic reports about the status of the young stars of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire. First came rumors that Rubina Ali's dad was trying to sell her. Then news that Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Ali's houses were demolished. Then news that jetsetting and stardom were keeping the kids out of school, which could stop the stipend they get for their work on Slumdog. Finally, so-so news that Ali and Ismail continue to earn money even though they live in shantys due to "legalities."

Director Danny Boyle has opened up about working with children in his Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, admitting he feels the youngsters were exploited.
Boyle plucked little Rubina Ali and Azhar Ismail from obscurity to star in his 2008 movie and faced heavy criticism for his decision to cast two children from the slums of Mumbai, India.
The filmmaker admits their lives changed drastically as they were whisked to Hollywood to conduct interviews and attend the glitzy Academy Award ceremony last year.
But Boyle insists efforts are "ongoing" to ensure the two young stars are looked after through the Jai Ho Trust he established in 2008 to provide them with financial backing and education.
When asked if he thinks he exploited the kids, Boyle told Britain's Sunday Times, "Yes. But you exploit everyone in a film and I think we've been responsible. We set up a lot for them before any fuss started. We put them into school and set in place a trust that will look after them until they are 17.
"When the film became a huge hit, we got money from the profits to buy houses. Rubina has still not moved into the property, but the process is ongoing. I saw them the last time I was there."...

There's a new article in USA Today about how Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali has $145,000 in new deals. Surely this is meant to be the bright light at the end of a long tunnel of post-film troubles -- living in filth, shantys torn down, claims that dad was trying to sell young Rubina. But reading through the piece, it doesn't look like much has changed at all.
According to the article, Ali has "already committed to projects worth more than $145,000, and her family could soon move out of the slums and into a new apartment paid for by a trust set up by the film's director, Danny Boyle." She's also said to have gotten about $32,515 in an autobiography advance, with perhaps another $80 thousand by April. Meanwhile, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail has landed a gig along with Ali in the indie film Lord Owen's Lady, which will net them roughly $1,626/day over 20 days of production.

Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali has been left homeless for the second time in 2009 - her home in India has been bulldozed by local officials.
The 10-year-old star, who plays the young version of Freida Pinto's character in the Oscar-winning movie, was left in tears as her one-room hut was demolished to make way for a new railway through the Garib Nagar slum in Mumbai, India.
One of Ali's pals witnessed her beg the authorities to not tear down her home, according to Britain's Daily Express.
The friend tells the publication, "Rubina was pleading with the authorities when they came. She was telling them, 'This is my house, I was born here.' She will now have to sleep in the open until they can rebuild it. She is worried for her baby sister."
It's the second time the child star has seen her house demolished - in May the hut had to be rebuilt after it was bulldozed.
The youngster is currently waiting to move to an apartment which has been promised by the Jai Ho! Trust, set up by the Slumdog Millionaire filmmakers to ensure the welfare of both Ali and her co-star Azharuddin Ismail.
Ismail has already been placed in a $56,000 (£35,000) property with his family.
The child stars of the Danny Boyle movie each receive a $120 (£75) a month allowance administered by the trust.

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle is withholding the trust fund he set up for the movie's young stars - until they finish their education.
The filmmaker set up the Jai Ho Trust for Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, 11, and Rubina Ali, 10 after their starring roles helped the film set box office records worldwide and scoop eight Academy Awards.
Last month, reports surfaced the pair was in danger of losing its monthly allowance because the kids had been skipping school upon returning to their native Mumbai, India.
And now director Boyle is cautiously waiting to deliver a lump of cash to the stars in case they don't graduate, according to Slumdog actor Anil Kapoor - who donated his salary from the film to the cause.
He tells the New York Post, "The majority of the money will be held back until they have finished their education."
Boyle encouraged the pair to get back into the classroom last month, adding: "We are disappointed that Azhar and Rubina's school attendance remains patchy. We have urged both families to honour their commitment to ensure regular school attendance."
In addition to the allowances, both children have been provided with new homes by the trust, after it was revealed Ali's shanty home had been destroyed.

Danny Boyle has ended negotiations with the children who starred in his Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire after their families demanded more cash from their trust fund, according to reports.
The director is said to have flown to India to meet with organisers of his Jai Ho Trust, a fund to support child stars Azharuddin Ismail and Rubina Ali, after their starring roles helped the film set box office records worldwide.
Boyle has been asked to provide a car for Ismail's relatives, while Ali's family wants a further $48,000 (£30,000) in addition to the $80,000 (£50,000) they received for an apartment.
But the filmmaker is fed up with the requests for more money and has left the country, according to a spokesperson for the charity.
The rep tells Scotland's Daily Record newspaper, "He is tired, really tired. The demands are now skyrocketing. Danny is tired, Danny is frustrated at these demands and has left (India) for England. He is very, very upset."...
