Way back in 2016, we got word that a live-action Captain Planet movie was in development at Paramount Pictures and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way, with Jono Matt and current Hollywood golden boy Glen Powell enlisted to write the script. The Top Gun: Maverick and Hit Man star was also said to be in line to play the title role.
Apparently, this take on the animated series was going to be set "years after the adventures of the show, with the Captain now a washed up hasbeen who needs the kids more than they need him."
Updates have been pretty much non-existent since, but Powell recently confirmed that the project is still in the works, and he's very keen to play the environmentalist hero.
"Captain Planet is definitely something I'm incredibly passionate about," he told Yahoo! "Leonardo DiCaprio and I have been putting that together for several years. With the recent changes over at Warner Bros.,...

Glen Powell teamed up with his “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Devotion” co-stars on Wednesday as they hit the picket lines outside Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California in support of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Powell, 34, shared some photos from his march, including a group shot featuring “Maverick” co-stars Tarzan Davis, Monica Barbaro, Danny Ramirez, and Lewis Pullman, as well as his “Devotion” cast mates Spencer Neville and Nick Hargrove.
Another snapshot sees Powell posing next to writer and producer Jono Matt, known for his work on “Glee”. Upon joining forces with the WGA striker, Powell held up a clever sign featuring a “Glee” meme of Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) that reads: “This is an outrage, and it will not stand.”

The film currently shooting in Los Angeles is described as being of the world of Swingers, with the sensibility of Pulp Fiction. Essentially, Hollywood idiots getting in way over their heads. On Christmas eve, six fledgling Hollywood hopefuls get a mysterious knock at their door and an envelope of $$$ at their feet. It contains the “opportunity of a lifetime” to go burglarize a mutually despised producer that once screwed them over and steal his Best Picture awards. Who organized this holiday heist?...

Glen Powell may have superpowers after all: He’s hoping to resurrect scrapped superhero movie “Captain Planet,” with Leonardo DiCaprio set to produce.
The “Top Gun: Maverick” actor said that the long-rumored “Captain Planet” movie may have new life thanks to DiCaprio still being “super passionate” about the project. The adaptation of the 1990s cartoon was first announced in 2016, with Powell set to pen the script alongside Jono Matt (“Weird Waters”). Oscar-winner DiCaprio was producing with Jennifer Davisson Killoran.
While Powell noted that the fate of “Captain Planet” ultimately lies in the hands of Warner Bros. Discovery and “where all the superhero stuff kind of lands there,” he added, “I think those conversations will be happening shortly” about officially greenlighting the film.
“I know DiCaprio is super passionate about it. I’m super passionate about it. I think it could be great,” Powell told Entertainment Tonight. “I want that one to work.

Some big things are happening in Leonardo DiCaprio‘s realm. First, Deadline tells us his company, Appian Way, has partnered with Paramount for Truevine, an adaptation of Beth Macy‘s non-fiction tome — subtitled Two Brothers, a Kidnapping, and a Mother’s Quest; A True Story of the Jim Crow South — concerning George and Willie Muse, two black brothers who were kidnapped in 1899 and put on display in traveling freak shows across the Jim Crow-dominated south.
It’s positioned as a starring role for DiCaprio, which, given the description, is a bit odd, but there may be a role in the form of (and this would sound so much funnier if the story weren’t so upsetting) “a white man [who] offered them a piece of candy.” A cousin-of-sorts to Django Unchained‘s Calvin (ahem) Candie, perhaps?
The other property Appian Way’s been eyeing is probably much easier to digest as entertainment,...

From 1990 to 1992, Tuner Program Services and Dic Entertainment presented “Captain Planet and the Planeteers,” an animated TV show that followed five teenagers empowered with the classical elements and the superhero Captain Planet to protect the world from environmental danger. Since then, “Captain Planet” has produced a sequel TV series that ran from 1993 to 1996, a comic book series, video games, and of course, the Captain Planet Foundation, an organization that inspires and teaches youth about the environmental challenges facing the world today. But now it will soon become a feature film, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and Paramount Pictures.

The classic 1990s animated series Captain Planet has been on the road to a live-action feature film adaptation for years. The project is being set up at Paramount Pictures, and they are teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions to bring it to life.
If the deal comes together, DiCaprio will serve as a producer on the film, and the studio will hire Sons of Anarchy scribe Jono Matt and Scream Queens star Glen Powell to write the script.
I was never a big fan of the original series, but it follows five teens from North America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, and South America. They are given powers by the Earth spirit, Gaia, so they can protect the planet from the devastation of evil polluters. When their powers aren't enough, the teens come together and summon Captain Planet.

Leonardo DiCaprio has quietly become something of an activist. With each passing year, the actor seems to inch closer to the kind of celebrity activist that folks like Sean Penn, George Clooney, and Angelina Jolie all are. He's also a smart businessman. DiCaprio sees that superheroes are all anyone is interested in these days, and so it looks like he's ready to merge his worlds a bit by adapting a beloved superhero for the big screen that actually has something to say about the world at large: Captain Planet.
The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that DiCaprio's Appian Way and Paramount Pictures are teaming up to bring an adaptation of Captain Planet And The Planeteers to a theater near you.
That's not all. They're already working hard to find writers for the project, as Paramount is courting Jono Matt and Glen Powell to pen the script.

By your powers combined, or at least the powers of some folks in Hollywood, a Captain Planet movie is in development.
This just in: Paramount is developing a Captain Planet movie. Remember Captain Planet? Captain Planet And The Planeteers was a somewhat preachy cartoon with an environmental message that ran from 1993-1996. Depending on how old you were at the time, you either have fond memories of it (and its brightly designed, but strangely mulleted title character) or found it insufferable (primarily because of his supporting cast of teenage 'planeteers'), but it's unlikely you've forgotten it.
Captain Planet would be summoned "by your powers combined" when the Planeteers would work together with their magic rings to fight villains with names like 'Hoggish Greedly.'
The nostalgia factor aside, there's some interesting talent involved in bringing the Captain Planet movie to life. For starters, Paramount is the studio...

Time for a bit of early ’90s nostalgia here, as THR is reporting that Paramount Pictures and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company have partnered up to bring environmental superhero Captain Planet to the big screen.
Sony was actually working on an adaptation many years ago, but the rights have since lapsed. This incarnation of the project has actor Glenn Powell (Scream Queens, Everybody Wants Some) on board as co-writer along with Jono Matt, but there’s no word yet on whether he’ll also play a role in the movie.
For those that have never heard of the classic animated series or need a refresher, Captain Planet and the Planeteers ran from 1990 to 1992, and focused on a group of global youngsters who were given magical rings that could control the four elements of fire, earth, wind, and water, and an additional ring for heart. When they combined their...

Some of you might be a bit young to remember Captain Planet, but the cartoon was very popular when it ran from 1990 to 1992, and still maintains a bit of a following. The show focused on 5 teens from around the globe who could control the elements, and once their powers were combined they were able to summon Captain Planet - a superhero who battled against pollution in an effort to cleanse the environment. The property was actually in development at Sony a few years ago but that fell through, and now THR reports that Paramount Pictures and Appian Way will team with writing duo Jono Matt and Glen Powell to finally bring the colorful characters to the big screen. No details on cast or director yet, but Powell and Matt are said to have a very interesting take on the story: apparently the film would take place "years after the adventures of the show,...
