Bmf has hired the former head of planning at digital agency Akqa New York as strategy director for the agency’s Sydney office.
Siewert joins after a spell at Vodafone in Ireland, where he was senior brand communications planner.
He has also had stints at Abbott Mead Vickers Bbdo in London, where he led the Mars business across Europe, and at Naked, where he was strategic comms and creative director. He began his career as a suit at Grey London.
Bmf managing partner Chris Kay commented: “We hunted high and low for someone to compliment the skills we have in the strongest planning department in the country. Alex’s background shows he will bring a lot to the agency, and we are looking forward to him starting.”
Siewert’s arrival comes a few weeks after that of brand and content manager Danielle Long, but also after a round of redundancies at the Enero-owned ad agency.

Top Australian ad agency Bmf has made a number of redundancies.
The agency’s boss Jeremy Nicholas said that a “handful” of people have left the agency, attributing the departures to “the changing nature of the skills and structure required across the business.”
He said that those leaving had been offered roles in other areas of the agency, but they had declined these offers.
The last reported redundancies at Bmf came in February as a result of falling client spend.
Bmf has been hiring in other areas of the business, bringing in ex-AdNews editor Danielle Long as brand and content manager, staffing up its new photography studio and bringing in Ricci Meldrum as managing partner in Melbourne from Clemenger Bbdo last month.

Former AdNews editor Danielle Long has joined ad agency Bmf.
Long, who has been a freelance PR for a number of media and marketing firms since leaving AdNews in May last year, joins the agency as brand and content manager.
She is among a small number of journalists to join an agency for a job other than in PR. Another was former B&T managing editor Kevin Johns, who worked at McCann as head of content until the merger with Smart last year.
Long was editor of AdNews for just over a year, having taken on the editorship from Matt Porter in April 2010, now PR manager at M&C Saatchi.
Her career also includes stints Campaign, Revolution and New Media Age in the UK, and a short stint as editor of Branded Arts Review.
