From The West Wing to Battlestar Galactica, television has been filled with memorable Presidents.
Which of these choices would earn your vote?
1. Jed Bartlet Jed Bartlet ruled over the West Wing and set the bar quite high for all fictional Presidents. Let Bartlet be Bartlet, people! 2. Henry Hayes Henry Hayes sat in the Oval Office on Sg-1. His portrayer, William Devane, will Also play the President on 24: Live Another Day. 3. Caroline Reynolds Prison Break wasn't Just about Wentworth Miller walking around shirtless. President Caroline Reynolds played a key role as well. 4. Fitzgerald Grant He's certainly the sexiest President on TV, wouldn't you say? Fitzgerald Grant just can't stay away from Olivia Pope. 5. Elias Martinez The Event fell apart pretty quickly. But Blair Underwood, as President Elias Martinez, did all he could to keep it afloat. 6. Television has a rich and proud tradition of featuring women not just defying gender roles and inspiring generations, but doing so while wearing one of fashion’s most elegant yet practical ensembles: the pantsuit.
From comedies to procedurals to late night talk shows, some of our most beloved pop culture icons have shown us the power of a well-coordinated jacket and slacks. The pantsuit is arguably the ultimate power outfit — as exemplified by a few other prominent powerful women — and so today, on a historic day for America, we look back at just a few of the legendary ladies who have graced the small screen in style.
Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) – “30 Rock”
In a consistent rotation of looks, Liz Lemon put on a pantsuit when Businesswoman (is that even a word?) Liz took priority over Creative Liz, who favored everything from long-sleeved T’s to flannels and sweaters. For as...

Pamela Adlon, “Better Things”
Compared to Adlon’s “Louie” character, the actress’ new role as single mom Sam is just as blunt and borderline provocative but far less intimidating. In fact, she’s kind of adorable in a painfully put-upon but unapologetic way. The semi-autobiographical story has us cringing alongside every embarrassing audition, parental freakout and unfair setback, and yet, Sam’s integrity and backhanded optimism is apparent in that she doesn’t give up, but instead copes (with vodka, but copes nonetheless). Sam is the promise of “Louie’s” Pamela fully realized.

Kristen Bell, “The Good Place”
Bell came of age playing a girl sleuth on “Veronica Mars” and then pulled a 180 by embracing a truly adult role as the ruthless but complex Jeannie on Showtime’s “House of Lies.

Though Geena Davis enjoyed (?) a recurring role on Grey's Anatomy Season 11, she hasn't had a proper small-screen showcase since starring as U.S. president Mackenzie Allen on the short-lived ABC drama Commander in Chief during the 2005-06 TV season. Now, that may be about to change. According to The Wrap, the Oscar winner has been cast in the "theoretical series regular" role of Angela Rance on Fox's The Exorcist, a "modern reinvention" of William Peter Blatty's famous 1971 novel that also served as the basis for William Friedkin's blockbuster 1973 film. Rance is described as "a naturally beautiful, regal and proud woman who is weighed down by stress. Rance does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling. She can’t help but wonder, however, if perhaps her nightmares about a demon are a sign of what’s wrong." The pilot...

Over the years we've seen many actors portray God on the big screen, from George Burns to Morgan Freeman, but now it is apparently Octavia Spencer's time toe become omnipotent and all-powerful. This is because she is now in final negotiations to play God in an adaptation of the novel The Shack, which is now in the works over at Lionsgate. Variety has gotten the scoop on this casting, reporting that newcomer director Stuart Hazeldine will be at the helm of the project. The book, penned by author William P. Young, centers on a man named Mackenzie Allen Phillips, who is devistated following the abduction of his youngest daughter, Missy, during a family vacation. Following an investigation, it appears that the girl has been brutally murdered, with evidence discovered in an abandoned shack in Oregon. Four years late, Mackenzie receives a note inviting him back to that shack -...

Lionsgate’s adaptation of William P. Young bestseller The Shack has finally found its maker, with Variety reporting that The Help and Insurgent star Octavia Spencer is poised to play God. Early negotiations are underway as Spencer has yet to fully commit to the movie.
After winning the rights to the novel back in 2013, the studio hooked a director last November in the shape of Stuart Hazeldine. The main thrust of his filmmaking experience stems from screenwriting, with the Brit having penned a number of as-yet un-produced epics (Spielberg’s Gods And Kings, for one), with his underrated indie, Exam, serving as proof that he’s got the skills to direct a knockout tale.
And what a knockout The Shack could be! Young’s novel racked up international sales of around 18 million, almost guaranteeing a built-in audience keen to see the popular tome on the big screen. The story follows...

Finally, an adaptation of William P. Young’s inspirational Christian bestseller The Shack is picking up steam over at Lionsgate, now that the studio has set Stuart Hazeldine to sit behind the camera on the project.
Hazeldine doesn’t have too much directing experience, but he’s made his mark on the film industry by scripting multiple epics, from Gods and Kings (the Moses pic which Steven Spielberg was developing before Ridley Scott powered ahead with Exodus) to Irish war saga Gods and Men and Bernard Cromwell adaptation Agincourt (which has Michael Mann set to direct). Previously, Hazeldine also helmed the BAFTA-nominated indie Exam, which he also wrote, and the short film Christian, about Jesus Christ disguising himself as a 14-year old boy to visit a tough British high school.
On The Shack, Hazeldine will be working from a script by John Fusco (Hidalgo, Netflix’s Marco Polo, upcoming Crouching Tiger,...

Last week, CBS premiered the new political drama Madam Secretary, which stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth Faulkner McCord, the U.S. Secretary of State. It's hardly a far-fetched concept, as we've seen three female secretaries of state since 1997: Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton. But it's nonetheless rare to see a fictional universe with a woman in one of the nation's top three positions of political power. (Yep, even in fake realities, politics is a man's game.) And historically speaking, Hollywood has played it as a joke more often than not. So which fictional female presidents, vice presidents...

Polly Bergen: 'Desperate Housewives' Emmy nominee; winner for 'The Helen Morgan Story' (photo: Felicity Huffman, Doug Savant, and Polly Bergen in 'Desperate Housewives') (See previous article: "Polly Bergen: Actress on Richard Nixon 'Enemies List'.") Polly Bergen began her lengthy — and to some extent prestigious — television career in 1950, making sporadic appearances in anthology series. She won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Single Performance – Lead or Supporting — beating Julie Andrews, Helen Hayes, Teresa Wright, and Piper Laurie — for playing troubled torch singer Helen Morgan (Show Boat) in the 1957 Playhouse 90 episode "The Helen Morgan Story," featuring veteran Sylvia Sidney as Morgan's mother. Curiously, Bergen's retelling of Helen Morgan's story was broadcast the same year that Ann Blyth starred in Michael Curtiz's Morgan biopic. Also titled The Helen Morgan Story, the film focused on the relationship between the singer and a...
