King Charles III wants to meet a goal for 2024’s Trooping the Colour in the wake of his cancer diagnosis. The monarch, 75, who began treatment in February, reportedly wants to “lead from the front” at the annual parade. That means he’ll have a certain mode of transportation not even his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, used in her 70s.
King Charles wants to ride horseback at Trooping the Colour
Per a Sun on Sunday report, the king wants to ride horseback at Trooping the Colour, his official birthday celebration.
“It is a sign of the King’s desire to get back to work and follow the mantra of the late Queen Elizabeth II that a monarch needs to be seen,” an insider told the publication, noting he “wants to lead from the front.”
“He’s been quite clear that he is raring to go,” they added. However, King Charles...

Summer’s ahead; for the British royal family that means Trooping the Colour is on the calendar. The annual military parade is a formal celebration of the monarch’s birthday. But this year, it may not include Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. An author says the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis may keep her from the celebration, along with the couple’s kids.
George, Charlotte, and Louis won’t likely go to Trooping the Colour without Kate Middleton
No Kate, no kids is how royal author Ingrid Seward thinks the 2024 Trooping the Colour celebration will go as the 42-year-old mother continues cancer treatment after announcing her diagnosis in March 2024.
“The kids probably love it, and it’s probably a real treat for them. You can imagine how much they’d love it,” Seward told Newsweek.

Right after ‘why two pairs of shoes but only one pair of trousers?’ the question on everybody’s lips after Doctor Who’s surprise bi-generation was: if David’s Tennant’s new Doctor is still around during Ncuti Gatwa’s era, does that make this a job share? Will Fourteen be popping in to audience applause every other episode like a wacky neighbour on a 1970s sitcom?
According to David Tennant, speaking to Radio Times Magazine ahead of his Bafta-hosting gig, the answer’s no. “The door is not any more open than it ever was,” Tennant told the mag, as reported by RadioTimes.com. “It’s very much the end of the story.”
“The Doctor’s happy. He is in a garden in Chiswick, being made mac and cheese by Bonnie Langford!”

It’s a rather cruel irony that Zack Snyder’s much-anticipated space epic saga and Dceu’s last cinematic venture have been released almost at the same time, given how Zack was responsible for laying the foundation of the cinematic universe in the first place. The reason to bring forth the coincidence is a particular similarity we couldn’t help but notice. One of Snyder’s most divisive movies in Dceu, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, was majorly lambasted for jam-packing the narrative with future teases and using exposition dumps in a tell-don’t show policy while establishing character arcs. However, it was later revealed that Warner’s futile attempt to catch up with the MCU resulted in the shoehorning of world-building elements into the narrative. However, this time, despite being Snyder’s second original work, where apparently Netflix allowed a lot of creative freedom, Rebel Moon suffers from the same aforementioned problems.

Heavily inspired by the Star Wars franchise, Zack Snyder’s director’s cut, Rebel Moon Part 1, follows an intergalactic mission of the settlers of a planet named Veldt, where a woman named Kora gathers warriors to regain the freedom of their village and restore peace. In the Motherworld Realm, several groups of rebels were fighting for freedom and sacrificing their own lives in their battle against the rulers of the realm. Among these rebels, the most famous group, Clan Bloodaxe, was led by siblings Devra and Darrian Bloodaxe, who sided with Kora and decided to bring down the evil leader of the Imperium, Admiral Atticus Noble, but in the pursuit of freedom, Darrian had to sacrifice his own life. Let’s discuss the siblings and their importance in the narrative in detail.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the short-lived anthology horror satire “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters,” which aired on TruTV back in 2018.
Although these days it’s known mainly as the channel on cable that plays “Impractical Jokers” all day, every day, back in 2018, Tru TV sought out to try some different programming. After successfully pulling away from their line up of reality shows, the network aimed to deliver a hefty line up of original comedy series, many of which ended up being damn good.
Among the line up introduced, there was “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters.” Comedian, actor, and director Goldthwait is no stranger to the horror genre (I loved his found footage film Willow Creek), and was the mastermind behind this delightfully unusual horror anthology series. Every week, “Misfits & Monsters” told a variety of half hour stories, all of which were a healthy mix of dark comedy,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers for “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire,” now streaming on Netflix.
Kurt Johnstad and Zack Snyder first started talking about creating “Rebel Moon” in 1997. In college, Snyder came up with the idea of a “Dirty Dozen” movie set in space, and the two would discuss their favorite films as a launching point for what eventually became the sci-fi world of “Rebel Moon.”
“’What’s your favorite science-fiction movie?’ ‘Oh, ‘Star Wars,’’ or I would say ‘Seven Samurai.’ We would always hit these really cinematic wavelengths, certainly as a child with cinema who went to the movies. All of those influences, we can’t deny the impact,” Johnstad says.
After a long process that involved Snyder initially pitching the movie to Lucasfilm as a “Seven Samurai”-inspired “Star Wars” story, their vision finally came to life with Netflix’s two-part space epic...

Major Spoilers for Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. Consider yourself warned. The much anticipated Zack Snyder movie is now streaming on Netflix, and the release of Rebel Moon 2 is just a few months away. The director spoke with Entertainment Weekly to tease that the sequel will be more of a “war movie” than the first.
Related Zack Snyder has an idea for another Rebel Moon spinoff
The ending of Rebel Moon found Kora (Sofia Boutella) and her ragtag fighters retreating back to Veldt, but Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) and his army have been tasked by Regent Belisarius (Fra Free) with retrieving her. It’s also revealed that Kora is actually the adopted daughter of Belisarius, so the stakes have been raised considerably.
“Part Two is a war movie,” Snyder said. “We know that Noble’s alive and Belisarius has given him the task of finding his daughter...

The heroes have saved the day by the end of Rebel Moon, at least for the moment. Admiral Noble may be down but he’s definitely not out, as we learn in the final moments of the movie. Surely, he’ll soon be back on Veldt to punish Kora and the rest of the warriors who dared challenge the Imperium.
The cliffhanger ending shouldn’t come as a surprise to Zack Snyder fans. After all, the movie is officially titled Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire. We know that at least one more Rebel Moon movie it’s on its way, the second part of the initial two-part film. The sequel is titled Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver and it’ll release on Netflix on April 19, 2024.

Zack Snyder has never been a sentimental filmmaker. He's taken plenty of criticisms for being "edgy" or "ruthless" over the years, especially after movies with high kill counts like "300," "Man of Steel," and even "Army of the Dead." So when he began work on "Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire" (you can read my review for /Film here) and it became clear that he would be focusing on yet another ensemble cast in the midst of a war, everyone should've braced themselves for the likelihood that at least some of these heroes wouldn't make it out alive. True to form, that's exactly what happens by the end of the gritty, hyper-stylized film.
Sofia Boutella's humble leader Kora and her ragtag group of mercenaries, bounty hunters, fugitives, and other unsavory outcasts emerge victorious over the fearsome might of the Imperium...

After rolling credits on Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire, you won’t be surprised to learn the Netflix movie began life as a pitch for a new Star Wars film. Director Zack Snyder brought his idea for a “more mature” Star Wars movie to Lucasfilm just before Disney’s takeover of the studio. While that version of what would become Rebel Moon never got off the ground, it freed Snyder to create his homage to George Lucas and Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai completely in his own way, without having to stick to the established rules of the galaxy far, far away. The result is a movie that plays with all of Lucas’ toys but in a much darker universe full of “violence, sex, and swearing.”

Plot: In a dark corner of the universe controlled by a Fascist regime called The Motherworld, a former soldier named Kora (Sofia Boutella) tries to escape her past by living as a simple farmer on a peaceful moon called The Veldt. When that moon is invaded by The Motherworld and her friends are threatened, Kora sets off to recruit an army of soldiers to battle with the Motherworld and end their tyranny.
Review: Take Star Wars, a liberal amount of Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven, and Battle Beyond the Stars, and mix it in with a heavy helping of Heavy Metal (both the magazine and the film), and you end up with Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. While a bit overstuffed (Snyder maybe made it a little too lean at just over two hours), it’s nonetheless a deliriously entertaining sci-fi epic that one could easily call the Best Star Wars Movie Never Made.

You know the drill by now, people! This article contains spoilers for "Rebel Moon."
It wouldn't be a Zack Snyder movie if every aspect of the plot was wrapped up in a neat, tidy bow by the end, now would it? Messiness and a refusal to abide by most genre conventions might as well be the divisive director's calling card, and "Rebel Moon" is only the latest example of Snyder's typical storytelling approach. The movie's full title, of course, is "Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire," which puts a flashing neon sign over the fact that nothing about this epic space opera was meant to stand alone in a single, self-contained film. Part of that was the influence of Netflix, but something tells us that the filmmaker would've pulled a similar stunt no matter what. And more power to him, honestly!

They almost appear disappointed. The motley band of heroes whom Kora (Sofia Boutella) assembled to save her agricultural moon have come to fight, and probably die, against the might of the Imperium. But when the dastardly Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) revealed himself to be a toothless fighter, and was left to rot after being knocked into the sea by Kora, it seemed like everything worked out on its own. The death of an admiral, Kora informs us, means that his now leaderless dreadnaught must return to Motherworld rather than simply allow someone else to assume command. Convenient. And as a consequence, no baddies appear likely to return to this moon in nine weeks to claim a farming community’s crop before killing the villagers.
“This would have been a good place to die,” Djimon Hounsou’s rebellious General Titus laments.

Filmmaker Zack Snyder knows a thing or two about kicking off a franchise in style. Previously considered the heir apparent to Christopher Nolan himself, Snyder was hand-picked by the "The Dark Knight" director to shepherd a new DC universe with 2013's "Man of Steel" and eventually brought things to a fitting (if premature) conclusion with the delayed release of "Zack Snyder's Justice League." Now, for the first time in his career, the divisive storyteller will have a chance to end things on his own terms.
Snyder's creative choices since his roller coaster of an experience in the world of superheroes have skewed noticeably towards original works. Whether by design or a by-product of his approach to world-building, his most recent efforts haven't shied away from setting up rich new worlds to explore in multiple movies to come, like "Army of the Dead.

It’s finally here – the first half of Zack Snyder’s two-part space epic, Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire, makes its debut on Netflix tonight. It’s been a long run-up to the release of what famously began as a pitch Snyder made to Lucasfilm, only for the director to make his Magnificent Seven-style space opera as an original film. The movie premiered last week (read our review), and truth be told, the reaction was controversial, to say the least. Many critics slammed the movie with a surprising amount of venom, but then again, Snyder’s always been a director who provokes strong reactions in people – both good (the Snyder Cult movement) and bad.

Sixty years is but the blink of an eye for a time-traveler like The Doctor. But for a television series, a Diamond Anniversary is an extremely rare and impressive occurrence.
BBC’s Doctor Who recently celebrated such a milestone with three one-hour specials which, for the first time, streamed globally on Disney+.
Russell T Davies, fresh from his success on ’80s AIDS miniseries It’s a Sin, returned to the show he brought back so successfully to the BBC in 2005. Bolstering his team are returning producers Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson, as well as Jane Tranter, the woman who was instrumental in bringing back Doctor Who in 2005. Bad Wolf, the company founded by Tranter and Gardner in 2015, currently produces the show with BBC Studios.
Another big returning name return was David Tennant, who played the 10th Doctor from 2005 to 2010 and who also returned for the show’s 50th anniversary in 2013. Beloved by fans and audiences alike,...

As divisive as his films tend to be, many can agree that Zack Snyder's career has always been that of a trendsetter. When the filmmaker's distinct grasp of visual style and flair (developed while working in the music video scene early on) brought Hollywood knocking at his door, Snyder spent the next several years bringing various concepts to life that most considered "unfilmable." His groundbreaking adaptation of the graphic novel "300," which arguably redefined blockbuster action in pop culture throughout the early aughts, directly led to Snyder getting his hands on the holy grail of "Watchmen" in 2009. Although superhero movies moving forward would generally opt for the airy tone of Marvel's "Iron Man" rather than Snyder's grand and operatic take, the seeds were planted for the DC superhero world that would consume him for much of the next decade -- and eventually lead to darker, more cynical, and self-reflexively...

A robot sits along a riverbank and washes his face. The action serves an obvious utility. Moments earlier space fascists (which seem in overabundance these days) bullied the automaton, knocking his face into the dirt, and kicking him while he’s down. Still, it is in how Zack Snyder stages the machine’s cleansing ritual that sticks with me. Voiced by the endlessly regal Anthony Hopkins, our ostensible C-3Po appears to have the soul of Lear—or at least Odin given Rebel Moon’s visual lexicon.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon-Part 1: Child of Fire his latest foray into science fiction, ambitiously attempts to weave a tale of interstellar rebellion and personal redemption. Written by Snyder, and co-written by Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten, the film struggles under the weight of its own aspirations, lacking the distinct personality often associated with Snyder’s works. The film delivers on the visual aesthetics, the film falters in delivering a compelling story. The film stars Sofia Boutella, Michiel Huisman, Charlie Hunnam, Dijmon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Doona Bae, and Staz Nair.
Stranded on a distant moon, the enigmatic Kora (Boutella) finds refuge in a community of farmers. Her life takes a dramatic turn when the oppressive Regent Balisarius (Fee) and his aide, Admiral Noble (Skrein), target the settlement for trading with Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe (Fisher and Coleman), who are rebel leaders opposed by the dominant Motherworld.

In 2021’s zombie heist thriller Army of the Dead, that sneaky Zack Snyder tricked us into believing he had rediscovered his sense of humor, a keen understanding of the fact that trashy fun and gory action mayhem need not be mutually exclusive. But just seconds into the leaden sci-fi saga Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire, it’s clear the director is back to indulging his worst tendency for self-serious bombast. That opening features the sonorous voice of Anthony Hopkins droning away over a gloomy spacescape: “On the Motherworld, blah, blah, blah …” It’s a glop of garbled narrative foundation that makes the opening text crawl on the original Star Wars look like a haiku.
The epochal George Lucas creation that spawned a billion Disney spinoffs appears to be very much on Snyder’s mind in this major undertaking for Netflix, with a reported budget for the two-parter of $165 million.

This Doctor Who article contains spoilers.
“When I was young, I was so sure of myself,” the Doctor tells Donna Noble early in the third and final Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special. “I made a terrible mistake.” That bit of exposition catches up viewers who never got the chance to watch the lost First Doctor serial “The Celestial Toymaker,” in which Michael Gough played the Toymaker, the bad guy of “The Giggle,” now played by Neil Patrick Harris. However, it also captures the theme of the episode, in which the Toymaker’s control over reality and the weight of constant running finally catches up to the Doctor and forces him to admit how little he knows.
From the Covid-era satire of the world destroying itself in pursuit of individual truth to the weariness with which the Doctor tells Noble that he was “so certain” about his past actions, “The...

Ridley Scott tends to make films that fall into one of three buckets. First, we have his science-fiction work, which features classics like "Alien" and "Blade Runner" and runs all the way up to "The Martian" and his two "Alien" prequels. Second, there are gritty dramas. Some of them have big scale action elements, like "Black Hawk Down," and others are much more stripped down, such as "The Counselor." But by far, the biggest bucket of Ridley Scott's career is for historical epics. From his very first film back in 1977 with "The Duelists," Scott has shown a consistent interest in history, especially if it involves fighting.
Just in the last decade, Scott has directed the masterful "The Last Duel," the decidedly un-masterful "Exodus: God and Kings," and his most recent film "Napoleon," all of which fall into this bucket. He does so many of them that a couple fall under the radar.

Around 300 Canadian union members held a rally Friday outside the Toronto offices of Amazon and Apple to support the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes stateside.
“The challenges we’re facing are the same ones Actra is facing now. It’s a battle against corporate greed and an economic system that rewards corporate leaders for cutting costs, wreaking havoc on our communities and destroying the livelihoods of countless hard-working individuals,” Law and Order: Svu alum and SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles vp Michelle Hurd told the Toronto rally organized by Actra, the Canadian actors union representing around 28,000 performers countrywide, except in British Columbia.
SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14, and the Writers Guild of America began its labor action May 2. Also attending the Toronto rally was NCIS actor Lauren Holly, who is both an Actra and SAG-AFTRA card holder and who touted the need for unity among North American unions.

The germ of the idea for Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon, came long before he was one of the most famous directors in Hollywood.
“In college, I had said something to my professor like…what about an ensemble movie like Seven Samurai in space?” Snyder told Den of Geek on the set of the Netflix production back in 2022. The 1954 Akira Kurosawa classic in question is about a small farming village that hires seven samurai to protect them from an army of 40 bandits; Rebel Moon’s story thus likewise centers on the peaceful colony of Veldt and its hero Kora (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman and Star Trek Beyond), a young woman who is tasked with seeking out warriors from other planets to help protect the village from the unstoppable armies of the tyrannical Regent Belisarius (Fra Fee).
In other words, Rebel Moon is essentially what Snyder envisioned decades...

A not-so-long time ago, in a Burbank studio, Zack Snyder pitched a "Star Wars" movie.
The year was 2012. Disney had just bought Lucasfilm, which gave the company the keys to George Lucas' blockbuster franchise. It was the earliest of days. Lucasfilm leader Kathleen Kennedy was taking meetings with every successful director in Hollywood, which led to a sit-down with Snyder. Snyder was at a critical juncture in his career: after delivering three relatively well-reviewed entertainments in "Dawn of the Dead," "300" and "Watchmen," the filmmaker had stumbled with "Sucker Punch," a wholly original action-fantasy about a group of young women who weaponize their imagination to break free of a mental institution.
Snyder was about to get off the ropes with "Man of Steel," but he sensed a world-building opportunity at Disney. His pitch was to take the "Star Wars" series back to its Akira Kurosawa roots with, as he recently told Vanity Fair,...

Michael Boyd, who revived the fortunes of the Royal Shakespeare Company as its artistic director, died today of cancer, his family announced. He was 68.
Boyd replaced RSC predecessor Adrian Noble in 2003, departing nine years later. In 2012, he was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honors for services to drama. Many felt that he was being rewarded for keeping the RSC intact.
Noble came under attack from all quarters for shifting the company from its London base and for revealing plans to have the RSC theater in Stratford-upon-Avon demolished.
During his tenure, however, Boyd led the organization’s successful transformation of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford, a $179.3 million project that won a 2011 Royal Institute of British Architects award and was shortlisted for the Riba Stirling Prize.
But it was in a rehearsal room with actors where Boyd made his mark.

Screen Producers Australia, an Australian guild, moved quickly on Friday to explain that wholly local film and TV productions, even if they involve Screen Actors Guild members, can continue to roll despite the SAG-AFTRA strike notice and order, which has been in place since midnight Pacific time.
The English-speaking country has an oversize production and post-production sector, with much of it set up to service inbound foreign productions, sometimes known as “runaway productions.”
Strike orders “will apply to some scripted TV and feature films produced in Australia. Spa anticipates that a limited number of scripted ‘offshore’ (i.e. non-Australian) productions will be affected by the strike, with cast and crew stood down while the strike continues,” the Spa notice says.
The “Mortal Kombat 2” movie and the “Apples Never Fall” series appear to be the highest profile productions where work in Australia is halted.

Good news and bad news, "The Sex Lives of College Girls" fans: the hit HBO Max series is returning for a third season! But, sadly, one of the fan favorites is leaving the show. On July 9, Variety reported that Reneé Rapp, who plays Leighton, is downsizing to a recurring role in season three before she'll ultimately depart. Rapp then confirmed the news shortly after, writing in a statement on social media, "College girls moved me out to L.A. and introduced me to some of my favorite people. Two and a half years later - it's given me y'all and this community."
She continued, "Thank u Mindy, Justin and everyone at Max for believing in me. A lot of queer work gets belittled - but playing Leighton has changed my life. I love who I am 10x more than I did before knowing her. I hope she gave y'all a little bit of that too.
