Captain Kronos – like the film – chronicles the adventures of the mysterious and powerful Kronos who has dedicated his life to destroying the evil vampire plague. Once a victim himself, the debonair Hunter knows the vampire’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the dangers of confronting the potent forces of darkness.
Based on the 1974 film, Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter is the second Hammer title from Titan Comics following the success of the awesome The Mummy: Palimpsest (from Peter Milligan and Ronilson Freire). However unlike other Hammer franchises, Captain Kronos was very much about the heroics of its titular character – and this new book very much follows suit, making it different in many ways from what audiences might expect from a Hammer comic.
The art in this book reminded me very much of the classic, and controversial, British...

Newcomers Programme to feature 31 UK professionals who have relocated to Los Angeles.
The British Academy of film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) has announced the participants of its 2017-2018 Newcomers Programme.
Now in its 10th year, the programme aims to foster new global collaborations by supporting rising talent from the UK who have recently moved to Los Angeles to expand their knowledge, develop their skills, and expand their network of peers.
This year’s group contains 31 participants: eight actors, seven directors, six producers, three composers, two art directors, two screenwriters, one agent, one executive and one publicist.
These participants are divided into two groups – one that is entering their first year in the programme, and the other entering its second.
BAFTA La sees its Newcomers as the next wave of film, games, and television professionals who will go on to continue the tradition of successful collaborations between the Us and UK industries.

I must admit, I was unsure just how the Legends Of Tomorrow would work on The CW. In the comics, Rip Hunter is not a huge figure, and most of the cast of characters for the show are not either. I did not feel the show would be cohesive.
I was completely wrong. The cast has a wonderful bond, and even Mick Rory, aka Heatwave (played by Dominic Purcell), has become a redeemable character from his old ways. Yes, he holds demons in his past, as do most of the characters on the show, but at this point wouldn't you say he is at least an anti-hero?
Well today, thanks to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, it seems that the first episode of Season 3 will be based on his last wish, which is to head off to Aruba and "chill out," and the title will be "Aruba-Con." Take a look at...

We've already seen the regular comic covers for DC Comics' upcoming Looney Tunes and DC superhero crossover event. In the series, several classic Looney Tunes characters will cross paths with DC superheroes that include Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Lobo, Jonah Hex, and the Legion of Super-Heroes.
This looks like it will be a fun comic series. They all look like they will be so much fun to read. Each of the characters that cross paths in the series are perfect for each other. I included information on each of the comics below.

A couple of weeks ago some artwork surfaced teasing a DC Comics special event crossover series involving the Looney Tunes. Today we have some actual story details about the comics that will be coming out, and they sound pretty damn entertaining. The one that I'm most looking forward to reading involves Elmer Fudd stalking Batman.
The Looney Tunes characters will cross paths with DC characters that will include Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Lobo, Jonah Hex, and the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Below you'll find the cover art and details for each one:

It had been a long time since I was in the same room with director Michael Cimino. My first job out of Nyu Cinema Studies was in the publicity department at United Artists in New York, where I witnessed the long delays on Cimino’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning 1978 anti-war diatribe “The Deer Hunter,” the period western “Heaven’s Gate.”
The director got caught up in chasing authenticity in the myriad details of the production, training for weeks the cast led by Kris Kristofferson and Isabelle Huppert to roller-skate for one scene — and demanding endless retakes until he shot more feet of film, over 1 million, than even Francis Coppola did on another memorably out-of-control UA movie, “Apocalypse Now.” The original $11 million budget bloated to $32 million (Cimino’s figure), as recounted in Steven Bach’s “Final Cut: Art, Money and Ego in the Making of ‘Heaven’s Gate.’

There’s a lot of time travel going on in pop culture these days. The CW has DC’s Legends of Tomorrow where a rag-tag group of misfits travel around with Doctor Who, excuse me, Rip Hunter Time Master, as he tries to stop the immortal villain, Vandal Savage, from killing his family. Oh, and to prevent Savage from really messing up the world… but mostly to save his own family.
In general, I like time travel stories and have ever since I saw The Time Machine (the 1960 one with Rod Taylor, not the 2002 version with Guy Pearce). A great variation on the H.G. Wells story was Time After Time, where H.G. Wells (played by Malcolm McDowell) comes to (then) modern day San Francisco chasing Jack the Ripper (David Warner) and encounters the ever adorable Mary Steenburgen.

Jughead #2
Written by Chip Zdarsky
Art by Erica Henderson
Letters by Jack Morelli
Published by Archie Comics
Jughead #2 is yet another silly, sarcastic entry in writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Erica Henderson’s surreal, slice of life series starring the Riverdale’s most non-conforming conforming teenager. This issue shows Jughead’s basically superpower of being able to skirt by the rules without breaking from getting free milkshakes from Pop’s to even avoiding detention for the most part under the draconian rule of Principal Stanger. He even has a purely metaphorical cheat code that hacks P.E. class, but Zdarsky and Henderson bring an end to his good luck with a dark and compelling cliffhanger.
One of the highlights of Jughead has been Erica Henderson’s cartoonish, yet with normal body proportions take on the Archie characters as she puts her own imprint on classic characters, like Betty, Archie, Kevin Keller...

All week long our writers will debate: Which was the greatest film year of the past half century. Click here for a complete list of our essays. How to decide in the grand scheme of things which film year stands above all others? History gives us no clear methodology to unravel this thorny but extremely important question. Is it the year with the highest average score of movies? So a year that averages out to a B + might be the winner over a field strewn with B’s, despite a few A +’s. Or do a few masterpieces lift up a year so far that whatever else happened beyond those three or four films is of no consequence? Both measures are worthy, and the winner by either of those would certainly be a year not to be sneezed at. But I contend the only true measure of a year’s...

For a complete rundown you can’t do much better than Kenneth Anger’s incredible book Hollywood Babylon and it’s even more depressing sequel Hollywood Babylon Part Two. The Art Director's Guild have named the most well designed and carefully decorated movies of the year. How well do you think they did in terms of Best? This is as good a time as any to tell you that we've begun our annual Film Bitch Awards, now in their (gulp) 15th year so you can see my preferred ballot there.
The guild which represents 2300 industry people like Production Designers, Art Directors, Set Designers, Model Makers and Artists of various kinds (Scenic, Title, Matte, etcetera) voted for the following 15 films, most of which are firmly entrenched in the Best Picture discussion indicated that they didn't watch too many screeners before voting.
Did Inherent Vice's elaborate last supper joke win it this nomination? Or was it the whorehouse?

The Grand Budapest Hotel -Adam Stockhausen

This is a Cheeky, Raucous, Irreverent film that will make most warm-blooded mammals laugh from the first scene, until the last! It is brilliant for a summer night out!
If you are a film or music fan, you most likely have already seen “A Hard Day’s Night” before, however, make a summertime date with the famous Fab Four, and see it again on the big screen, with the new restoration, at an art house cinema, and you really can’t go wrong.
It is necessary to give accolades to the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, because, “if it weren’t for Elvis, there would never have been any Beatles.” John Lennon had admitted, that from the moment he first learned about Elvis and saw all the attention that he was receiving, he wanted to be just like him.
So although, there is no denying that the Beatles changed music forever, it was really Elvis who was the King of their inspiration.
For those who have not seen “A Hard Day’s Night” before, the Beatles had already been a popular recording act, with several Top 20 hits in the U.K., when they arrived in NYC to perform on the Ed Sullivan show on February 7, 1964. A record breaking 73 million viewers tuned in, and the British invasion began.
One month later, across the pond, the film was in the works. The music lover and film producer, Walter Shenson, was brought on by United Artists. Shenson, who had previously worked with Director, Richard Lester, on “The Mouse on the Moon,” mentioned the gist of the project, and Richard jumped at the opportunity.
However, to receive the final green light, the film had to be true to the way the Beatles actually lived, and scriptwriter, Alun Owen, who wrote the television play, “No Trams to Lime Street,” which depicted Liverpool, was chosen.
The film begins with the song “A Hard Day’s Night” playing while the Fab Four are running through town trying to make it to the train station on time before their train departs. Once on board, they start a conversation with an older gentleman, who Paul comments, is his grandfather. John is cheekily trying to snort a Coke (Coca-Cola) bottle up his nose in the background, and a business man wants the train car his way demanding that the windows be closed shut. The laughs just continue from there on out, when the boys are flirting with girls, and the grandfather cunningly tells the young women that the boys are really prisoners. An acoustic version of “I Should Have Known Better” is being played on the train.
Film director, Richard Lester, “relied on improvisation rather than rehearsal, creating a freshness that was clear on-screen.” “Before we started, we knew that it would be unlikely that they could (a) learn, (b) remember, or (c) deliver with any accuracy a long speech. So the structure of the script had to be a series of one-liners,” Lester later stated, “This enabled me, in many of the scenes, to turn a camera on them and say a line to them, and they would say it back to me.”
The result, the bandmates play brilliant, clever, crafty, and smart-alicky versions of themselves.
Lester’s visual style mixed techniques from narrative films, documentary, the French New Wave, and live television to create something that felt, and was, spontaneous. “I have seen directors who write down a list of scenes for the day, and then sit back in a chair while everything is filmed according to plan. I can’t do that. I know that good films can be made this way, but it’s not for me. I have to react on the spot. There was very little structure that was planned except that we knew that we had to punctuate the film with a certain number of songs.”
Recorded at Emi Studios in Abbey Road, London, they cut “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “And I Love Her,” “I Should Have Known Better,” “Tell Me Why,” “If I Fell,” and “I’m Happy Just to Dance with You,” in only three days.

With filming for Zack Snyder's follow-up to Man of Steel set to being very soon, casting for the movie has obviously been stepped up. Just now, Warner Bros. issued a press release announcing that three new actors have been cast in the movie for various roles. Come inside to check out all the details!
If you're hoping for information on who they'll be playing...you may be a little disappointed. All the press release really says is that they were cast for characters created specifically for the film. Meaning they don't already have a comic book counterpart. Either way, it's really nice to hear some sort of official information on this film, considering how quiet things have been lately on the upcoming DC Superhero flick:

HollywoodLife.com got an early look at the ‘Vampire Diaries’ season five premiere, and we’ve got five spoilers to tide you over until it airs.
Are you ready for “The Vampire Diaries: The College Years”? An all-new season of The CW’s hottest addiction begins Oct. 3, thrusting our characters into new and uncharted territory. By doing away with the Mikaelson family — don’t worry, there’ll always be The Originals – and by giving the cast a change of scene, I think Ep Julie Plec injected the show with a much-needed kick; and in typical Vampire Diaries fashion, the premiere keeps on kicking from beginning to end.
5 Spoilers From ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 5 Premiere
1. Damon & Elena: So Happy Together
I’ll get “Delena” out of the way first by confirming that everything you’ve heard about Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) is true. They had a wonderful summer together,...

Houston, Texas is best known for oil and cowboys. Like most things, there is way more than meets the stereotype. My favorite Houston secret is Worldfest, a nine day international independent film festival held every April.
What is so great about it? It’s a point of pride for Houstonians because it is the oldest in the world. It was founded in August 1961 as Cinema Arts, and International Film Society. It became the international film festival it is today in April 1968. In all of this time it has been under the care of founder Hunter Todd. His goal was to create a quality film festival for independent filmmakers.
Meh, who cares how old it is. If it’s last power doesn’t impress you, here’s a short list of some of the filmmakers discovered at Worldfest:
Steven Spielberg George Lucas Ridley Scott The Coen Brothers Oliver Stone David Lynch
Pretty sweet,...

We learned the identity of Drew Thompson this week, as Justified Season 4 aired an especially important episode.
In this edition of the TV Fanatic Round Table, staff members Nick McHatton, Dan Forcella, Christine Orlando and Jim Garner break down this major development and other happenings from "The Hatchet Tour."
----------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Nick: Raylan getting the children, aka Constable Bob's shootout, in order and calming them down. Art and Tim's exchange is a close second.
Dan: The moment that Raylan came to the realization that Shelby was Drew, not the actual reveal, but just before. The wheels in Raylan's head were turning, and the excitement on my face was growing as I got closer and closer to being correct in a prediction. There is a first time for everything!
Christine: There were so many good lines and moments in this episode but I really...

The "Justified" writers played it straight with the audience regarding the identity of the mysterious Drew Thompson, which is good. And the stories it can set up after revealing his identity in Tuesday's (March 5) show are potentially very good. But it may mean the actor's time on the show is limited, and that's kind of a bummer.
Spoilers for "The Hatchet Tour," obviously, coming right up.
The audience has been ahead of Raylan, Art, Boyd and everyone else looking for Drew, because none of them were in Shelby's office when he was searching the database for Drew, or at his house when he told Ellen May about believing a lie long enough until it becomes true. So when Hunter says "What now, Drew?" to Shelby while Raylan is mediating between Constable Bob and the two drunk Clover Hill guys, it's not the biggest surprise for us. But it's also episode 9 of 13 this season,...
