The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.
“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.
“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.

The show, set for Thursday, October 26 in Los Angeles, will be a “fully-realized production of a well-known Broadway musical,” the catch being that the performers won’t know what show or their roles until 24 hours before curtain. “The audience finds out what the show is when the curtain rises on the most terrified group of actors you will ever see,” the improv company says.

It's been a few days since the sad news broke that Call Me Kat had been canceled after three seasons on Fox, and now, Mayim Bialik is speaking out.
“It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday….We made a lot of people laugh during Covid in ways that at first seemed impossible," Bialik wrote on Twitter.
"But with this incredible cast — Cheyenne [Jackson], Swoosie [Kurtz], Julian [Gant] and Kyla [Pratt] — and, of course, with the late Leslie Jordan, all things that seemed impossible became possible.”
Bialik went on to speak about what she envisioned happening to the characters had the show snagged a pickup for Season 4.
“Decide the ending you want, but for me, here’s where I think we all end up: Kat and Max live happily ever after, Randi and Carter get married and do the same, and Sheila is forever in everyone’s life bringing joy and wisdom,...

Fox is making its renewal and pick up decisions.
The network has canceled comedy series Call Me Kat after three seasons. The show has seen dwindling ratings, particularly in its third season.
On the comedy side, Fox still has Animal Control, which is expected to receive a second season. However, the future of Welcome To Flatch, which is in its second season, is unclear.
Call Me Kat has been paired with Animal Control and the two shows are not considered particularly compatible. Welcome To Flatch comes at an attractive price point, but the cancelation of Call Me Kat is not expected to influence Fox’s decision whether to bring it back for a third season. Finding more comedies is a priority for new head of comedy Cheryl Dolins.

The cat cafe is closing its doors.
Fox has canceled its comedy Call Me Kat, starring The Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik, after three seasons. The news comes a day after the show’s season (now series) finale aired on the network.
Call Me Kat stars Bialik as a woman who leaves her job as a college professor to open a cat cafe. The series is based on the BBC comedy Miranda, starring and created by Miranda Hart. The show was a co-production between Warner Bros. TV, BBC Studios America and Fox Entertainment, along with That’s Wonderful Productions — headed by Bialik’s Big Bang co-star Jim Parsons — and Bialik’s Sad Clown Productions.
The comedy joins The Resident and 911 in leaving the network after this season, though the latter is moving to ABC for its seventh season. Both dramas come from Disney’s 20th Television, so 911 will become an...

Call Me Kat is adding another big name to its guest-starring roster this week.
Thursday's new episode promises to be another comical episode, and we have an exclusive first look.
Margaret Cho appears as Val, a local cat lover preparing to compete in the Pretty Kitty Cat show.
Her first meeting with Kat is anything but sweet when Val strongly implies that Kat has no chance in the competition with her cat.
"To take her mind off their breakup and Max and Zoey's (guest star Margie Mays) new successful song, Kat attends a cat show with Sheila and Randi," Fox teases of the storyline.
"Kat's competitive side is brought to life, when local cat lover Val (guest star Margaret Cho) thinks Kat and her rescue cat have no chance of bringing home a trophy."
It's a comical scene showcasing Val's tenacity to win, but Kat is not fond of being counted out.

Oddballs is a Netflix animation series written and directed by Ethan Banville and Robert James Rallison.
Oddballs is a “retro” animation series for kids of all ages, it has more jokes for adults than for kids with words like “cognitive”, “metaphor” and other “quantum subjects”: it offers what it promises as a series that does not want to stand out in its 2D animation and which focuses on the really funny dialogues and clowning, some of which is only suitable for advanced students in MIT.

After singing a verse from “Where the Soul Never Dies,” which she recorded with Jordan for his 2021 album Company’s Comin’, Parton eulogized her dear friend.

A sitcom episode stretched out to snapping point, “Bar Fight!” may have made for a mildly amusing 22 minutes. But you may need a few drinks to get through the full hour and a half.
It certainly doesn’t help that there’s not a single person here worth the hang. The entire concept hinges on abrasive talent agent Nina and blandly hipsterish carpenter Allen, who have just executed the most enlightened breakup since Gwyneth and Chris consciously uncoupled. But when they unexpectedly show up at the same dive bar — the one they happily shared for five years — the gloves come off.
It’s decided that they’ll compete for custody, with one triumphantly “keeping” the bar and the other conceding defeat and moping off to another neighborhood. The staff tosses some suggestions in a Santa hat (it’s December), and the competition begins.

Fox‘s ’Call Me Kat‘ Pauses Production Following Leslie Jordan’s Death; Mayim Bialik & Co-Stars React
Production on Fox’s Call Me Kat has been halted following the death of Leslie Jordan. Jordan, who portrayed Phil in the series since Season 1, completed work on a total of 9 episodes.
Thursday night’s episode titled “Call Me Uncle Dad” will air as scheduled and will include an in-memorium.
Jordan died in a single-car crash in Hollywood today. He was 67. According to the LAPD, a driver, likely suffering a medical emergency, drove a car into a wall at the intersection of Cahuenga Boulevard and Romaine Street around 9:45 a.m. today.
“There aren’t words to convey the loss we are experiencing as a cast and a Call Me Kat family. Many first-time directors would be first in line at the multiplex to buy a ticket to watch their movie on the big screen, but “As They Made Us” filmmaker Mayim Bialik is just wrapping a long day of shooting on her Fox sitcom “Call Me Kat.”
“I’ve been working since seven in the morning, rehearsing and rewriting,” Bialik says with a laugh as she hops on the phone with Variety on Friday afternoon. “Obviously, everybody’s been congratulating me, and [her “Call Me Kat” co-star] Julian Gant is also in the movie, so we’re both very excited. But it was just like a normal day.”
In fact, the actor, producer, writer and now director was on the way home to her sons and preparing for Shabbat with her mother Beverly. Plus, she notes, “There’s a certain level of terrified that I would be to watch it in a theater.

"I wanted to talk to you about Dad..." Quiver Dist. has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled As They Made Us, from actress Mayim Bialik making her feature directorial debut. The drama is about a dysfunctional family, starring Dianna Agron as a divorced mother of two, who is struggling to balance the dynamic forces within her dysfunctional family as she attempts to cultivate her new love. She tries to make peace with her family while on the path to a second chance at love. The ensemble cast also includes Simon Helberg, Candice Bergen, Dustin Hoffman, Justin Chu Cary, Charlie Weber, and Julian Gant. This looks like a really heavy, emotional drama that is kept afloat by love and wholesomeness. It all seems much more tender and heartfelt than I was expecting. This might be worth a watch when it opens in April. Here's the official trailer (+ poster...

On Fox’s sophomore Mayim Bialik comedy, Call Me Kat, wrangling cats at the Louisville cafe is only part what keeps the characters busy. Take the February 17 episode: First, a broken romance sparks a suddenly single Sheila (Swoosie Kurtz) — whose boyfriend Preston cheated on her in a recent episode — to keep her lovers’ vacation to Bora Bora…and she recruits Phil (Leslie Jordan) to join her. “We get there and we figure out that they still have Preston’s credit card on file,” says Jordan. While there are laughs as Phil pretends to be an über-masculine Preston, there is also a touching moment for the characters. “Twice I forgot to say my lines because I was so enthralled with [Swoosie],” he adds. Also in the episode, Max (Cheyenne Jackson) feels the need to rein in his diet and decides to go on a cleanse, recruiting Carter (Julian Gant) and Oscar (Christopher Rivas) to join him.

Last year, Call Me Kat got off to a great start in the ratings thanks to Fox giving it a post-football game premiere timeslot. The network is repeating that strategy this time around. In addition, star Mayim Bialik is getting additional exposure by hosting Jeopardy! in syndication. Will some new viewers check out the series and cause the ratings to rise? Will Call Me Kat be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.

Exclusive: Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Luka Jones (Shrill), and Julian Gant (Call Me Kat) will star in Bar Fight, a comedy from writer/director Jim Mahoney (Klaus), which wrapped production this week in Los Angeles.
Bar Fight follows exes Nina (Fumero) and Allen (Jones), who split everything in their lives 50/50 after their break-up to avoid any drama—everything, that is, except for their favorite local bar. Nina and Allen must compete in a ridiculous, tavern-style custody battle for their prized watering hole, in which lines will be drawn, sides will be chosen, and beers will be drunken.
The film is presented by Particular Crowd and Ingenious Media. Sarah Gabriel and Mark Goldberg of Signature Films produced with James Harris and Mark Lane of Tea Shop Productions. Particular Crowd’s Tomás Yankelevich, Peter Bevan, and Mariana Sanjurjo exec produced, alongside Simon Williams and Jamie Jessop of Ingenious Media.
