Staffers at CBS’ “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” aren’t sure who the next top producer will be at the program, according to three people familiar with the matter, with top producers ready to take their time to examine the needs of the show after the departure of Chris Licht, who has been executive producer of the late-night mainstay since 2016. Licht’s decision to take a new role as the CEO of CNN once Discovery closes its acquisition of WarnerMedia leaked this weekend, well before the executive was able to formally inform George Cheeks, CEO of Paramount Global’s CBS operations, or Shari Redstone, chairman of the company, according to one of these people.

After more than three decades and dozens of other characters under his belt, Mark-Paul Gosselaar is revisiting the one that first made him a household name: Zack Morris on “Saved by the Bell.”
The veteran actor is not only going to guest star in the Peacock continuation series of the classic NBC Saturday morning live-action kids’ show, but he also teamed up with Dashiell Driscoll, the mind behind the viral sensation “Zack Morris is Trash” (and a writer on the upcoming Peacock series) for the “Zack to the Future” podcast. Each episode of the podcast features the duo discussing a singular episode of the original series, sometimes with a special guest.
It’s not the first time since the show wrapped production in 1994 that Gosselaar stepped back into Zack’s oversized shirts and blond locks (that would be 2009’s guest appearance on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”), but the podcast...

Jim Bell, one of TV’s best known news and sports producers, is joining NBC’s venerable “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” as executive in charge at a time when the late-night mainstay is fighting for viewers with CBS rival “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

One of the three top producers of NBC’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” announced Monday he would step down from his role at the show, giving rise to speculation about whether someone else might be named to help lead the program in days ahead.
Mike Dicenzo, a writer and producer who has worked with host Jimmy Fallon for a decade, said via Twitter that he would leave the program, “one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever made, and one I’ve been grappling with this year. Ultimately, I just felt it was time,” he said. “And thankfully, Jimmy couldn’t have been more supportive or understanding.” Dicenzo has been a longtime creative aide-de-camp to Fallon, helping devise some of his best-known late-night sketches, including one that aired earlier this year in a post-Super Bowl broadcast that featured Fallon doing a lampoon of Bob Dylan singing lyrics that described America under the Trump administration.

Amy Ozols’ late-night work is being seen an hour earlier, thanks to a recent move that took her from a co-executive producer spot at CBS’ “Late Late Show with James Corden” to the head writer position at NBC’s “Tonight Show.”
Ozols became head writer at the NBC late-night mainstay in January, though the network did not announce the hire. Her move to “Tonight” reunites her with host Jimmy Fallon, with whom she worked for many years on a variety of projects, including a substantial stint between 2009 and 2012 as a producer and staff writer during his tenure at NBC’s “Late Night.”

Her move to “Tonight” reunites her with host Jimmy Fallon, with whom she worked for many years on a variety of projects, including a substantial stint between 2009 and 2012 as a producer and staff writer during his tenure at NBC’s “Late Night.”
She fills a role at “Tonight” that had essentially been open since A.D. Miles, the show’s previous head writer, left in March of 2017.

In a self-moderated panel on Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon and a collection of his creative team sat down on the “Tonight Show” stage at 30 Rock to drive home their mission statement: to have fun and provide “an escape” for their audience during a particularly turbulent time.
“There’s a lot of sad news we could talk about,” Fallon acknowledged. But what he hopes “The Tonight Show” can do is “help people get away from it.”
The Fyc Writers Guild panel also included director Dave Diomedi, Digital Media Director Julie Harrison-Harney, writer Arthur Meyer, head writer Amy Ozols, and producers Mike Dicenzo, Gerard Bradford, and Katie Hockmeyer. All emphasized that they view “The Tonight Show” as a true variety show, complete with creative musical acts and the parlor games that first made Fallon’s version of “The Tonight Show” stand out. Taylor Swift‘s surprise performance led to a touching unexpected coincidence for a grieving Jimmy Fallon.
On Monday, Swift made an unannounced appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, during the comedian’s first show on air since the death of his mother Gloria.
The singer, 27, performed her new song “New Year’s Day” while playing the piano following the late night host’s monologue. Serendipitously, the lyrics unintentionally referred back to a touching story Fallon told about his mother squeezing his hand three times to say “I love you” when he was a child.

Now that's Christmas cheer!
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson appeared on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show on Friday to promote his upcoming Rock The Troops television special and talk about the importance of giving back to the troops, "because we live and enjoy the life we have because of them." However, unbeknownst to the audience -- and most of the Tonight Show staff, too, it turns out -- the towering former wrestling pro also had a much more immediate way of giving back in mind.
Watch: Dwayne Johnson Does the 'Sexiest Mannequin Challenge'
Telling Fallon that there was a military family "here tonight" that he wanted to give back to, the two left the stage and walked through the seated audience looking for the right person -- but it was inside the control room behind the audience that they found their target.
What followed was one of the most heartwarming segments of The Tonight Show ever!

On the air, it's business as usual for Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. But behind the scenes, the NBC late-night leader is adapting to the exits of two longtime power players in as many weeks. First, producer-writer Gavin Purcell, a force on Fallon's digital team, jumped to Vox Media. Then, on Oct. 24, showrunner Josh Lieb, who had been with Fallon since his move to 11:35 p.m. in February 2014, left for a Universal Television deal. Filling Lieb's shoes are three Tonight producers: Gerard Bradford and Mike Dicenzo, who will handle creative efforts, and supervising producer

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon producer-showrunner Josh Lieb is departing the NBC late-night program, segueing to writing with an overall deal at Universal Television. There will not be a direct replacement for Lieb. Instead, the roles of three key staffers who had been with Fallon since the 2009 launch of his first NBC late-night show, are being expanded. Katie Hockmeyer will assume oversight of production, while writers Gerard Bradford and Mike Dicenzo, who have…...

To appreciate how much work goes into writing a show like “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” ask a writer how many jokes they must write on any given day for any given segment. The answer is easily dozens, and that doesn’t include comedy pitches for celebrity guests and big sketch ideas like the show’s famed TV show parodies.
Gerard Bradford, a supervising writer for “Tonight Show,” broke down for IndieWire just how intense the production process can be. He also revealed some of his favorite sketches from the past year, and their more unusual inspirations.
What does having a regular schedule for specific desk bits like “Thank You Notes” mean for the rhythm of writing the show?
It definitely helps – especially on a show like ours where we’re doing five hour-long shows a week, and each show can be very different content-wise on any given day.

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Both Jimmy Fallon & David Letterman went ahead with their shows as usual Monday evening from their respective studios in midtown Manhattan, but the tapings were anything but normal. With Sandy nearing landfall, the two hosts made jokes, did comedy segments and talked to guests with no one in the audience.
Fallon opened "Late Night" with a cold open from 50th St., explaining as he made his way inside and up to Studio 6B, that they sent the audience home and but still had a great show for everyone. Letterman opened "Late Show" from the street as well, standing in front of the Ed Sullivan theater with sidekick and band leader Paul Schaffer, discussing whether to go ahead with the show or not.
That the mostly quiet studios didn't make for the most energetic broadcasts seemed beside the point; the overall message being that if the show must go on,...

If you're not familiar with Mets Bucket Hat Guy, the recurring "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" character played by writer Mike Dicenzo, all you really need to know is that he's a pro when it comes to word association. He has a way of seamlessly connecting the dots that never fails to impress.
While his "Fallon" bits are some of our favorites, we were really blown away when we saw Mets Bucket Hat Guy take on The "Forbes" Celebrity 100 list in this epic, five minute, seven second name association.
In one uninterrupted spell, Mbhg goes through every single person on the list in order, connecting them with some brilliant (and some totally random) segues. Even CEO/Editor-In-Chief Steve Forbes joins in at the end -- and we haven't seen him flex his comedic muscles like this since he hosted "Saturday Night Live" back in 1996.
