The 54th annual NAACP Image Awards has unveiled its calendar of events, leading to a live broadcast from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif., on Feb. 25, 2023. The ceremony will air live at 8 p.m. Et on BET.
The 54th NAACP Image Awards will feature three new categories within motion picture, television and streaming categories, including outstanding hairstyling, outstanding make-up and outstanding costume design. Nominees will be announced on Jan. 12, 2023.
“Throughout the past year, we’ve witnessed Black artists showcasing our history and uplifting values of progressive change, while redefining genres and bringing our stories to the forefront of entertainment in so many innovative ways,” Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP, said in a statement. “Black voices are necessary to continually inspire audiences around the world. We’re proud to once again provide a platform that both elevates and celebrates these voices through the 54th NAACP Image Awards.

Mr. Saturday Night will conclude its Broadway run at the Nederlander Theatre on September 4.
Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Mr. Saturday Night tells the story of Buddy Young, Jr., an outrageous and outspoken comedian who is trying to reclaim the spotlight some 40 years after making it big. Shoshana Bean has joined the cast of Billy Crystal’s upcoming Broadway musical Mr. Saturday Night, producers announced today.
Also announced were new preview and opening dates: The musical will now begin performances on March 29 at the Nederlander Theatre, with an official opening night of April 27. With the arrival of Bean, the show’s casting is complete.
The Wicked and Waitress actress joins an ensemble that includes the previously announced Crystal, Randy Graff, David Paymer (recreating his Oscar-nominated performance as Buddy’s brother Stan Yankelman from the 1992 film), and Chasten Harmon.
Bean will play the role of Susan Young. The Broadway company also will include Jordan Gelber, Brian Gonzales, and Mylinda Hull.

Jet Leyco made his feature debut Ex Press, which was also his graduation film at the Asia Pacific Film Institute in Manila, in 2011. He gained experience in filmmaking as an intern for the Filipino directors Lav Diaz and Khavn De La Cruz. Leave It for Tomorrow, for Night Has Fallen (2013) was made with a Hubert Bals Fonds grant for script development. Town in a Lake (2016) is his most recent film.

Jet Leyco is a critically acclaimed Philippine filmmaker based in Manila. In 2009, he graduated cum laude at Far Eastern University. He gained filmmaking experience while doing internship for cinema masters Khavn Dela Cruz and Lav Diaz. He has directed a variety of short films and the feature films like Ex Press (2011), Leave It For Tomorrow For Night Has Fallen (2013), and Town In A Lake (2015), each respectively competed at various film festivals like Rotterdam, London and New York. All of them respectively won numerous national and international accolades and awards. Matangtubig is a quiet rural town, whose political leadership and police claim that zero crimes occur there. However, when two girls go missing, with the one turning up a few days later dead and the other nowhere to be found, the small town goes in an uproar.
